Fun Fact:
If you add up the circumference of two of an elephant's feet, you get the elephant's exact height.

Bullet Magnet 09-28-2008 08:47 PM

Unlikely. An approximation, perhaps, but morphology does not follow such precise specifications, and as a rule of thumb it is particularly futile when you could just measure the animal's height then and there. Unless you are working from an elephant foot's wastebasket, in which case: shame on you. It's not a complete set of instructions anyway, does it mean the two front feet, the two back, a front and a back, double a single foot...?

This is Myrianida pachycera, a polychaete worm. As you can see, the reproductive strategy of one of its forms is the asexual budding off of new worms from a continuously growing chain of worm children.

Yeah, I bet that's demonstrable.

http://www.tburg.k12.ny.us/mcdonald/Koala_Baby.jpg
Fun Fact:
Koala fingerprints are actually so much like human finger prints, it's possible for them to be mixed up. Train Koalas to burgle houses, and you're in the money.

Bullet Magnet 09-28-2008 09:38 PM

There's no way that could happen. Koala hands are unique and adapted to climb trees, so unless most burglars have claws on each finger and two thumbs of each hand, no self-respecting crime-scene investigator is going to get the two confused. On top of that, koalas are significantly smaller than humans, so you're betting on the police coming to the conclusion that people are being robbed by long-clawed, two thumbed babies.

That's very interesting, I'll let my local police force know, they've been trying to capture the two thumbed baby menaces for a while now, they'll get a hoot out of this.

Jesus, man, that's one nasty looking beatle.

Abeguy 09-29-2008 09:42 PM

wow, I read up on that, and it is an amazing way to do things

it doesn't do anything else to it, it just becomes the new tongue. It attaches itself to the muscles and the fish can use it like it's old tongue...Wow.
