I have come here for help and insight to this wonderful game^^ I am currently working on a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS) of this game (PSX NTSC). This is where I play using an emulator and save/load/slowdown etc. This means you will be seeing Abe's Oddysee completed in the fastest time without human error and without slow human reaction speed! See the video below. I will no doubt have many questions about the fastest strategies, glitches, tricks etc, as I progress. I'm going purely for fastest time in this run, maybe after I will do 100% completion by saving everybody. But let's leave that thought alone for a while :-P If you think I'm too slow somewhere in the video, please post to let me know. And I can try out your strategies too, to see if they are faster. |

Hi antd, nice idea making a X# segments speedrun.
You have probably already seen this but if you havent; If you want nice tips on how to accomplish things faster I really have to refer to the quickest speedrun I've seen so far http://speeddemosarchive.com/AbesOddysee.html which was posted in 2006. That one is done in 10 segments only and I am confident that you surely can beat that if you time everything 100%. And about the mines blowing up my tip would be to throw the stone right when the elevator reaches the top while you are standing up, which I think is possible. That way you would get rid of milliseconds stopping one extra time before jumping down. |

Thanks for that link. I recently tried many many different throw combinations/distances etc and this was actually faster than just going up and throwing. If you go up and throw the bomb, it explodes 3 times, separately, which makes it slower in the long run (iirc). Thanks for the suggestion though. Ya I figured it was faster since u stop at the very end, but Abe falls back from the explosion but it dusnt really matter since when you are up again the explosions have JUST stopped. |

Wait for the hoist ledge thing to be hoisted down 4. Climb up the hoist As you can see, this takes a long time. Let me know what you think, your ideas could save time ^^ |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YY8AZ182PI I have another strategy but I'm really unsure if it's faster or not. Would take a long time to test. It involves not triggering the boulder and manually getting past the bees. It's possible to do if you throw a piece of meat and get the paramite to eat it on the beehive. You can then get the song without bees harming you... I think it may be slower because it would potentially require stopping or walking to get past the beehive. edit: I'm going to test this theory tonight. |
You can do it faster by rolling past the bees as soon as you get in the door, and kill the paramite that's guarding your way to the flintlock, and quickly get the bellsong while the bees kill the paramite. it doesn't always work, but this way, you don't even have to go to the rolling rock.

I think I can improve it.
Perhaps I should throw the meat onto the hive as soon as I reach the song room. I usually enter, wait a while, then pass over the hive. During this wait I should've thrown the meat onto it. Then lure the paramite, which will go straight for the meat. Thus saving time. Since the objective is to get the paramite onto the hive as soon as possible. Although, if I do it too fast then the paramite will die quicker and the bees will rape me during the song. I'll try this tomorrow! |
