Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus released on Steam gaming platform.
Both games have just been released on Steam.
Steam, of course, is the online digital distribution platform created by the makers of the Half Life series, available here: http://www.steamgames.com/ Just thought the good people of this forum would like to know. PS. The BUY list needs to be updated. ;) |
I knew this was coming, but not so fast and not so out of the blue... thanks for sharing!
|
Awesome. What's the difference between these guys and the original releases? Different boxart?
|
Boxart? Steam? Hahaha!
I'd be interested in seeing any differences between the two games. Especially since it is advertised as working with XP and Vista only. |
I don't believe there's any boxart for a game released on Steam... you know... as it's entirely digital distribution and stuff. :p
I truly hope the graphics are improved. I think I'll buy them in a few days when I get home. |
Can I just ask. What IS steam, and what have they done to AO and AE? :p
|
Just checked the AO demo.
Sorry, Xavier. No improved graphics (not that I expected it). It appears to be the same old game. |
Oddworld on Steam!
Just seen you can now get AO and AE from the Steam website, check it out!

Hey that's awsome!
To bad Oddworld games prolly won't ever run again on my PC but maybe I can hijack my GF's comp :D. I now wonder if these are fixed versions of the games. I hate it when Aslik freezes in FeeCo... if so then I might just rebuy them just so I can complete the game normally for the first time in 6 years. |
This is old news, 121 minute old news.
|
I downloaded the demo and it crashes at mines, AE, this doesn't happen on the regular demo off their site.

This is awesome, I might consider getting these in case I lose my original cd's of the games.
|
Havoc, as far as I can tell they are exactly the same games as have been previously released, so if they didn't work before, they still won't. (Although I don't have a copy of either the full PC games to verify this)
That said, the Abe's Exoddus demo is REALLY buggy. Two mudokons were lost via some kind of corruption (one got beaten and didn't get up, and his sprite became corrupted when i came back onto the screen later), and another stopped responding with a corrupted sprite when chaning screen. Then, in one of the secrets (the one where you have to jump off the ledge into a vent hidden on a lower screen), the Sligs could shoot me through rock. The third time I tried to do this bit secret, it crashed. Will to a comparison of the two demos. If it's incorrect, I'll contact Steam support. |
So... What's the point in Steam? Just to sell AO and AE like any other site for more than they should be going for... And the games they sell are full of bugs and crap? Sounds great. :p
|
What’s the point in Stream? Steam is digital distribution, a method of selling games that doesn’t involve trucks transporting raw materials from factory to factory to produce discs and cases and deliver them to retail centres that consumers have to travel to. Content is available directly to the consumer, bypassing the traditional developer–distributor/publisher relationship that’s left OWI in the lurch so many times already. Lorne and Co. are huge supporters of this, and admire Valve greatly for Steam.
What’s the point in releasing AO and AE on Steam? It means that OWI get money for sales. It means that the games are now available to anyone, and not just the lucky few who can scab remnant copies from eBay, carboot sales, and outback outlets. It means that the games can in no way be considered abandonware, so that argument for illegally downloading AO and AE is now even more flawed that it would otherwise be. And U.S.$15 for both games? How is that in any way overpriced for Oddworld? |
I'm sorry if I seemed a bit against them, I had no idea. I've heard of those kind of companies, it looks like an easy way to buy games.
|
THIS IS FUNDING THE NEXT GAME WHICH WILL BE RELEASED IN EPISODES INCLUDING A SLIGSTORM ESQUE GAME
I hope... |
My fandom feels validated ten years on.
|
Okay, so I opened up Steam, and there was that 'update news' flashing orange in my start bar. I click it, and as soon as I saw a picture of Abe, I didn't even think about anything else and bought it as soon as I possible could.
I won't be able to play them until about one week though, because that's when the end of the bandwidth month comes where I download the two 600 mb files. And I was having a really shitty work-filled day when this happened. These two games never fail to cheer me up. |
OMFG.
I'm purchasing them as soon as I get back home to Oz. :
Alcar... |
Does anyone else think that it's rather a coincidence that this should happen on the same date as we publish the section of the interview in which Lorne reveals it will be happening? EDIT: Anyone but Max, of course...
Lorne did say that the games would be undergoing a lot of testing, so it's possible that one or two bugs/incompatibilities will be ironed out. Also, if these games sell well, they'll port over MO and SW to PC and release them on Steam as well. |
One more good reason to buy the game then folks... make it 1# seller on Steam :p
|
Hm, I would buy MO but not SW... didn't find SW very fun, to be honest...
|
I've already posted this info on the buy list yesterday :fuzzle:
I knew i should of made a thread about it |
But you didn’t post that on the Buy List until 19 hours after this thread had already been created, so it makes no difference.
|
This thread is older than your post in the Buy List :p
I definately hope we get Munch and Stranger available on Steam then. That would be awesome. Edit: Max was quicker than me. |
Everyone buy them! I'd die for MO and SW on the PC. <3

:
I have a vague memory of knowing about it before. Did Lorne mention it in an interview or podcast with some magazine or website or something? Or did one of the guys in on Nate's interview mention it on the forums? |
