EA Games, The Ruiner

This thread is about what series EA ruined.

I start: OW (MO) and CnC (Generals).

What is "OW (MO)" in this post supposed to mean?

I think it means he needs to do his research =3.

EA wasn't involved in MO. MO was the bad quality it was because of Microsoft's deadline.

But, lets make a small list here.

EA ruined the following publishers and games:

- Westwood Studios (no matter how much they try, C&C 3 and RA 3 would have been 10 times better if the original teams worked on them).

- Maxis (While they maintain a sort of hands off policy with The Sims, they do push Maxis to keep pumping out sequals. And of course they completely raped Sim City with Sim City societies.)

- Bullfrog (Known for great games like Theme Hospital and Populous. After EA bought them they effectively killed the company and any games on the drawing board. Luckily Molineux decided to go his own way and created Lionhead Studios to bring us greater games like Black & White.)

- DICE (Known for the Battlefield series. While BF2 was absolutely not a bad game by itself, the following support for the BF games suck serious ass and are continued to pump out games under the BF title.)

Future mess ups:

- Valve (EA has shown interest in Valve multiple times but at the time merely acts as a distributer for Valve's games that are sold boxed in stores. It's not unlikely though that due to Valve's succes with Half Life and Portal, EA will take major interest in this company.)

- Take Two (Obviously, as EA already tried to buy them before the release of GTAIV. While Take Two declined the VERY generous offer of 2 billion dollar, EA is very likely to get a hold of the company eventually and effectively kill the GTA series.)

Valve wouldn't givein unless given an ungodly amount of money, they don't need EA at all

Valve already has an ungodly amount of money, due to Steam. I think they're probably safe.

Havoc 08-27-2008 05:57 AM

I'm no business guru but I think they can be taken over by EA if Valve's shares are public. EA could just buy more then half and just get the company based on number of shares.

Wings of Fire 08-27-2008 06:53 AM

And the probability of Valve being stupid enough to not have their board of directors in control of 51% of shares is...

I dunno but it wouldn't be the first time EA performs a hostile takeover.

So long as Will Wright is leading the design of a Maxis game, it'll come out all right.

Spore was his last one, guys. After this it's advisory capacity.

There are rumors going around about Simcity 5. Let's just hope he gets to do a lot of advising on that.

Wikipedia tells me that Valve is privately owned.

Havoc 08-28-2008 07:03 AM

Wheeee

horia_roks 09-09-2008 03:53 AM

OK, not MO, but Lanning left OWI because of EA. The world would be much better without EA.

Which will not happen, because EA, in it's awful reputation, is like a matter absorbing slug, gently creeping along and growing bigger.

Until you dump that fucker with salt.

Congratulations, you still have all your facts wrong.
