Lorne Lanning Interview Part 5: Glukkon History

So here’s another epic section of Nate’s interview with Lorne, and this part is even longer than the last. If you ever wanted to know more about Gorman Disenza, Lady Margaret, the Magog Cartel, and Squeek’s Oddysee, this is the part to read. My fancreas was doing somersaults when I read this, I hope yours do too.
  1. Citizen Siege and Current Projects (discussion)
  2. The Philosophy of the Abe Film (discussion)
  3. The Plot of the Abe Film (discussion)
  4. The Relationship Between Abe and Sam (discussion)
  5. Glukkon History
  6. Fangus and Stranger
  7. Abe's Moon, Re-releasing the Games, Hair Gel and Other Topics
  8. Miscellaneous Other Questions

Given the new information revealed in this part of the interview, I was compelled to update TOE’s article on Gorman Disenza.

No one listened to me so I have to do it myself. Beware people, it's full of heavy

SPOILERS!

Sanssouci 08-15-2008 04:09 AM

Spoilers?

Anyway, brilliant part.

tony123az 08-15-2008 04:29 AM

where does it say about squeeks oddysee? can't seem to see it.
overall great to read :p cant wait for the fangus/starnger part.

:

Now Maggie’s grandmother was to be reawakened in the third piece of the Quintology and she’s going to be really pissed off because that means the clock is ticking on the 90 days she has left to live. So if she’s awakened because her investments start losing profit—which is caused by Abe’s actions—then the real bitch is awakened and things get much worse. What I wanted to see was that the actions of one little guy eventually start affecting entire economies of nations. Then we get to see what happens when the big boys get upset—they get brutal.
If Lorne telling you what will happen in the next two games (because we still haven't met Maggie yet) isn't a spoiler, I don't know what is.

Anyway this was the part I liked the best of the whole interview, by far!

Oddsville 08-15-2008 06:21 AM

Great to hear! Its good to get a glimps into the future and what we will hopefully be playing or watching one day.

Munch's Master 08-15-2008 06:38 AM

.......WOW.

There's not much more I can say than that. From the unfolding of the power hierachy to the revleations about the disease to learning about Maggie to learning about the next games to everything else. That section was incredible. We've learned more about Oddworld in the last 5 weeks than we had in the previous 5 years (That's not a knock on Lorne by any means, just an observation). Incredible stuff.

alf's brother's mate 08-15-2008 07:28 AM

Hehehehe another fantastic read for us forumers.

That was amazing to learn about things that we hadn't even dreamt of in the past 5 years! As munch's Master said, we are learing more about oddworld in these little interviews than we have ever before in any book or game or thread.

Wow, just wow!

We've had literally nothing, nothing new since Stranger, and now all this wonderful Oddworld loveliness is pouring out of Lanning's mouth. Beautiful.

Had no idea there was such a thing as Gorman Disenza before this.

Yeah, it's a shame this wasn't in the first post, then maybe I may have had some warning. :p But anyway, I can't say I'm disappointed I read it (in fact largely the opposite).

NR: I don’t even know if I should tell people this. It’s going to blow their minds.
Nate, gotta commend you on such a great interview. You may have rekindled my love for Oddworld again.

Looking forward to future installments (and moreso to seeing more of the Oddworld franchise). :D

OddYouko 08-15-2008 10:12 AM

This is by far the most interesting interview! :D And reading it gave me chills!
Man I can't wait for all this stuff! A really great interview Nate!

Luskan 08-15-2008 12:07 PM

I can't believe this stuff!
Everything just fits in so perfectl! Fantastic interview.

i love oddworld...

Havoc 08-15-2008 12:17 PM

Wow lots of awsome info in there :D.

The guy sure likes to talk doesn't he? Damn what a wall of text.

MeechShrykull1029 08-15-2008 03:18 PM

Now I have a theory about Squeek being a Glukkon. And I thought Abe's goal was to kill Maggie. In the 4th part of the Quintology, there will probably be someone even more important, and in the 5th part, the most important characters in the Oddworld industry, probably the Khanzumerz.

It was a good read, but I was looking forward to learning about pre-Magog history. The Alchemy Age and such.

Nate 08-15-2008 06:55 PM

Well, you should have asked questions about that in the What Would You Ask Lorne If You Had The Chance thread. :p

Yeah, that's how it was for me also. It was so amazing to hear how detailed his plans are and the breadth of the story that is sitting in his brain.

Ha, yes. :D Can you imagine what it was like to type all of that, and keep track of the diverging trains of thought he zooms down?

I assumed someone else would have been curious enough to ask. I mean, how much do we really know in that area?

Lantra 08-15-2008 10:50 PM

I haven't been on the forums in absolute ages (though I've still followed all the developments) but this interview series is so great its inspired me to get back on the boards :D

fantastic job Nate, I can't wait to read the rest.

Xavier 08-15-2008 11:37 PM

Wow, glad to see you back Lantra, it's been a while.

Yeah I think Max used the same technique when we were to interview Lorne. I guess we will have to change of way to find inspiration next time, it would be too obvious.

Sanssouci 08-16-2008 03:08 AM

Well, being transparent about it and letting people know person X is meeting Lorne and might actually ask your question(!) would probably get more responses to a "What Would You Ask Lorne If You Had The Chance" thread ...

I'm kidding of course, that would be CRAZY

Ehh, I'll just keep my eyes peeled next time 'round.

The thing was that at the time we created the thread, I didn't know for sure that I would be able to meet him. I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up.

From memory, Max didn't even tell me that he was going to meet Lorne when he did. Though he was remarkably unsubtle when asking me what I would ask him, so I kinda figured it out.

Bullet Magnet 08-17-2008 06:16 AM

That was awesome. Though I heard much of it way back in Spoony's, reading Lorne's own words make it that much more magnificent.

abe is now! 08-17-2008 09:13 AM

I'm so sad, I really want to read these discussions about Oddworld's "mysteries" but I'm not good enough in reading English texts and so I can't read them: it would take a very long time and I can't stay in front of the PC so much :(...

Xavier 08-17-2008 09:30 AM

Print the text then... I remember I did so when I first tried to decipher Paul's designer diaries.

KintoKid 08-17-2008 02:32 PM

Lorne blows my mind every time he gives us a glimpse of the scope of his story. Considering how long it's been since anything directly related to the Quintology has been released, that last bit just about broke my heart....

Personally, I really just want to have the entire story of the Quintology told, in some form (be it games, movies, a 9,000-page novel one must assemble piece by piece by lining up unfolded 3" x 2" gum wrappers - whatever it takes, man). I am hard-pressed to come up with anything else so simultaneously entertaining, thought-provoking, and wonderfully... well, odd.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Hollywood, Scary Movie 19 is already being green-lit for production. GG, earth, GG.

Yes but... how many pages should I read :fuzemb: if I could choose my mother tongue, I'd choose English!!!

Xavier 08-18-2008 03:28 AM

I'd say the whole thing, but part 5 is the most interesting I think, and part 4 too.

abe is now! 08-18-2008 04:49 AM

Thank you Xav!!! If you say it, I believe it :D!!! Now I'm printing them.

SNegrea 08-20-2008 02:41 AM

Excellent interview. Can't wait for the next few parts. (Does the "Hair Gel" have to do with Abe's hair?)
