Viacom gets access YouTube user's details...
Yet another Copyright vs Internet Freedom battle ensues, this time between Viacom and Google.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/connected...lgoogle203.xml Isn't this a violation of privacy anyway? :S It's annoying to see someone else trying to stamp down on our freedom to watch whatever we like online. I'm not sure what Viacom will acheive with this, though, considering it's easier to find what's on YouTube by simply looking through the website itself. So what do you guys think? Yet another pointless endevour to try and stop millions of people from uploading and watching copyrighted material on the internet, or is this more serious this time around? |
I dunno, the whole copyright infringement thing gained some ground when Colgate purged every Dr. Rabbit video from YouTube. Still though, pretty much 90% of the material on YouTube violates some kind of copyright. It's not like anybody is trying to make money off of it either.

VIACOM IS CORPORATE LAND RAPIST
CEO IS MURDERER VIACOM IS PIG DIGSUSTING |
YouTube will still anonymise the details. Viacom claims it wants the data to see whether users prefer watching original videos or copyrighted ones.

It's not like they're losing profits over it, is it? Youtube doesn't really make profit either, I assume it only does from hosting the adverts, which isn't quite the same thing.
Though what would Viacom do if it finds out users prefer watching 'copyrighted' ones, what rules will they use to determine that information (if someone made a music video with clips from somethnig they like, will that be penalised???), and what would they do afterwards? Lawsuit? Obviously something. |
Time to change IP and encrypt all my private files.

Youtube and Google said FUCK YOU to Viacom so we're in the clear again.
Walk along people! Nothing to see here! |

Please, less emoticons. I can't comprehend messages of spheres with faces beating the shit out of a computer.

Thank you for that translation.
My opinion on the matter: I don't much care for Viacom. |
