Gameboy Oddworld
Hi. This is a topic for discussion about gameboy Oddworld games.
I'll start us off with something to discuss. I honestly thought that the gameboy games didn't follow the storyline very well and sometimes went completely off track. They were still good considering the platform they were on, I think. For example... Munch's Oddysee (Xbox): Abe and Munch must make Lulu a Glockstar to gain access to the Mudokon eggs and win the can of Gabbiar from the upcoming auction. Munch's Oddysee (GBA): Glockstar is a separate character, not a rank. Abe and Munch must shut down the EvenWurst Weenerz Co. and Fort Glokz in order to prevent the capture of all Mudokons on the Break Wind Hill. See? It diverts from the storyline a bit. Please post if you have anything to add. |
Yes, Munch’s Oddysee on the GBA is more an attempt at a microsequel than a remake, whereas Oddworld Adventures and its sequel retold the story of their respective originals, albeit not very impressively. I actually enjoyed it rather. As tiresome as its puzzles and SFX could get, there were some amusing things, not least the Mudokon flying device and the autonomous Snoozers.

Why all the hate? I've said it many times, and I'll say it again: they was good shit. no they weren't fucking masterpieces like their PSX counterparts, but they were solid fun games with recognisable characters.
urgh. |
Nobody had brought up any hate…

Anyway, I've owned all the oddworld GB/GBA games and i've got to say the first oddworld was pathetic - the second however was brilliant, and i thought it was a fantastic little game with almost all the great parts from the console version still intact. I wish i still had it if it wern't for me losing it years ago.
Munch's oddysee on the GBA was ok, i found it a bit boring and the ending was far from climatic. At the end of the day at least there was a bit of diversification in the series, even if the all of the hand held outings wern't fantastic. |
So far, you've all made very good points about the Gameboy Oddworld games.
I also own all three and dispite the fact that some people bag them, I really enjoy them. I don't care if the graphics aren't perfect and the occasional Paramite eats the one next to it. I really liked the games because I like Oddworld. Let me rephrase that... Oddworld rocks!!! I mentioned in another post in a different thread that I would make a sprite-sheet of the Oddworld Adventures games with extras like new animations and characters. I was originally considering doing a redo of the first Oddworld Adventures myself with more things in it, but then I thought "Hang on! A game like that has already been done. Abe's Oddysee. Duh!" :D Heh, I felt stupid for a while after that... |
I'm going to get the Game Boy games, at least they have something to do wih Oddworld. I like the way they have a different story, so I think it will be very fun to see what they are all about.

In the first Oddworld Adventures, the manual says that it is Abe's job to save the Paramites.
In fact, there are only three Mudokons in Oddworld Adventures 1: Abe, a Native Mudokon, and Big Face. It's still good though. |
