Exoddus for PC - couple issues

Hi all. This is MY FIRST ODDWORLD FORUM POST IN THE DECADE I'VE BEEN PLAYING IT!! I should be ecstatic, but I'm ashamed. :p

*ahem... Sorry. Onto the post...

Couple issues: (regarding the PC version of Abe's Exoddus)

1: Why can't I hear any echo? Is this a known issue? Everything sounds dry and flat. (my sound card is an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer)

2: I can't chant using my (junky) controller. All the buttons are mapped perfectly, and working fine (works in Abe's Oddysee too), but chanting just won't register. Btw, I just ordered a new controller (rated 5-stars on Newegg), so I'm HOPING that will fix it... My current controller has D-pad issues that make me stand up and walk into meat-saws, and jump when I mean to walk forward. The other night, I was trying to record some ingame video from the Slig Barracks (the "hard" barracks) but I was just dying way too many times, due to controller hiccups that made me do stupid things... like roll out of shadows when I meant to stand up. Not funny when Mr. Slig is watching with his machinegun.

3: There was something else, but now I forgot what it was... See what my controller made me do?

Oh, fudge... ;)

Well the sound issue must be something about the soundcard or just a glitch. I don“t really know.

The controll issue must be as you said the conntrollers fault. Buy a new one.

1) No-one can hear the echo! It was removed from the PC version. I think because it sounded too strange. It was heared EVRYWHERE, even when there is naturally NO echo.

2) Yes, surely the controller is faulty.

Yep, the Echo was one of the things that was lost in the conversion process. =P

But I can't help you with the controller issue. I know the PC versions of AE and AO were designed to work with most controllers that were out during the time the games were released, but I dunno how controller-compatible they are in general.

Kind of pointless me posting this, isn't it now? =P

I just got my controller (how's that for fast shipping?) but the chanting is still partially broken. I realized, however, that I can still chant just by holding L1+L2 at the same time, rather than two R and L buttons.

This controller pwns - movement is perfect, and the comfort level is good. (not spectacular, but good)

Thanks for the feedback, all. Too bad about the echo... but since I have my save-game in the PlayStation version (using an emulator), and since the sound is better there (the PC version also has totally weird/loud sounds for when you save Mudokans, and find secrets) I'll just finish playing the PS version.

Oh, okay, I remembered what #3 was.

3: In the PS version, I can't get the level-select cheat to work. I tried both combinations that I found online... They were: at the main-screen, hold R1 and press up, down, left, right, triangle, square, circle, triangle, square, circle, up, down, left, right -- and the second one was: down, up, left, right... (same thing, just down/up instead of up/down...)

These are wrong, correct? I checked at about six or seven cheat sites, but they were all the same.

If you mean AE on the PlayStation, then the second of those cheats should work. All these cheats work for me. The normal button combination for chanting is just L1 + L2. I used to have a friend who was convinced you had to hold all four shoulder buttons. Eh.

And welcome to the Oddworld Forums, fellow long time Oddworld fan. :p Just in future please use the ‘edit’ button rather than double posting.

What "conversion process"? Why the echo was lost?

Edit: Oh, and, umm... oh, I forgot!
