Beyond Good and Evil sequel happening!
I don't know if anyone else in this forum got in to Beyond Good and Evil, one of the most criminally underrated games of the last decade. If you haven't heard of it, I'd recommend searching it out. Fans of Oddworld would like the production design and plot.
Anyway, Michael Ancel (also well known for the King Kong game) has revealed that he's working on pre-production on a sequel and is hoping that Ubisoft greenlight him. News story here and a rather odd teaser trailer and a couple of images can be seen here. |
Oh wow :D BGAE was brilliant, if this is anywhere near as good I shall be watching it for sure.
Thanks a lot Nate :). |
Sweet!
I loved the BGAE! Shame I got rid of my Xbox before I finished it :( |
It's amazing how common that response is. So many people seem to have loved it without finishing it.
I restarted it again recently but I can only play in short bursts as the camera on the xBox version gives me motion sickness. I did have the PC version as well but my computer struggled with the graphics. |
Yay, it seems Michel Ancel is staying true to his word. I was there during Video Games Live in London 2006 (VERY special thanks to Middlesboogie, I really owe her for that) - The music from Beyond Good and Evil was played on a live orchestra. :) He came out afterwards with the sound designer and they both had an interview with the dude who was presenting VGL and said there and then on the stage that he wanted to make another one. . . :)
It's a shame the BG&E is so underated and that many people just seem not to be able to get into it. I guess it's 'cause it's either really glitchy for them or the style is too weird at first. Middlesboogie showed it to me originally, so I bought the game for the PC and loved it so much that I showed it to as many people as I can. I think I've completed it almost as often as I've played Abe's Oddysee - It's one of those games that you can re-play over and over again. :) Heck I've completed it so much that I'm 55 on the worldwide high-score list (and I could get more but I can't be bothered, 55 is good enough for me): http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1212057921 And I even named my old (mid to late '06) Warcraft guild after the Alpha Sections (Screenshot - "Promo Poster"). And it was quite popular too until we all reached 60 and couldn't work out how to raid effectively. :S So of course I'm pleased about Ancel making a sequal, even if Ubisoft aren't co-operating with him yet. Perhaps the fanbase can pesaude them. . . :) Glad to see that Pey'j still lives and that he has the same voice actor, it seems. =P |
the trailer has been shown yesterday at the ubidays conference, so I think it's pretty official it's being made.

The pigs hand is bandaged.

I got for for my birthday last year on my cube and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The unique and interesting characters, the beautiful and incredibly immersive environment, and a good storyline. My only problem with it was how short it was. I was really hoping to be busy with it for more than a week, I was sore to put away such a fantastic world Ubisoft had dreamed up.
That's awasome that finally a sequel is coming. That game deserves so much more than what it's been given. Damn Halo... I like the trailer. There's a lot to look forward to from the ending to BGAE. I'd rather play it on a console, but since I don't own any of the next gen's, I'll just have to settle with my Windows XP. |
Apparently that trailer is entirely in-engine.
|
Yay legal double-post!
An acquaintance who knows these things tells me that this is based off the opening scene of Once Upon a Time in the West, directed by Sergio Leone. Not sure what to take out of that. |
Hmm. Old Western themed parhaps? That would be neat.

Once Upon A Time in the West - Opening Scene:
Don't quite see the resemblance myself, 'cept for the guy briefly sitting around with a fly buzzing 'round him before catching it in his gun. And the fact that they're all in a desert. But that's about it. Cool movie intro but it does drag on a bit. |
I just bought Beyond Good and Evil for the Xbox last week, I'm enjoying myself.

Chapter 1: The Chicken...
OMG! Stranger 2! |
Trailer looks goddamn amazing, I hope they make the game awesome this time.
The first had everything going for it save gameplay. Repetitive and predictable, blech. Although the story and character development were quite excellent, I really cared about every character, and the pacing was excellent. I was disappointed by the end though, as I recall... But yeah. I'm pumped for number 2. |
Yeah, too much sneaking around for my taste. I loved the camera aspect, though.

I just finished Beyond Good and Evil ten minutes ago and it's totally worth every ounce of effort I put in to it. An absolutely wonderful game that now ranks #2 on my all time favourite games list. I highly would recommend it to everyone.
It looks to be available on Steam, at least in some regions. |
Yeah, I can't seem to find it on there. :(
It is also available on Play.com for a fiver, though. :) http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3257...l/Product.html |
Does anyone know of a soundtrack? The music was definately one of my favorite aspects of the game.
|
Yes. Ubisoft released it as a free download but their original webpage is gone. There are a few websites that have incomplete versions of it (missing a few tracks) so I downloaded it via bittorrent.
It's an absolutely wonderful score; #1 on my favourite game score list. |
