Fare thee well, Mojo

Unfortunately our dear Sander, being in his early twenties, has found life is catching up with him. He's gone the admirable way and informed us that he can no longer support the forums as an Off-Topic Moderator. But before I wish him well, I'd like to take a short trip down memory lane.

Sander joined the Oddworld Forums just a little over a month after me, in December 2001, in what was to be referred to as the 'Munch's Oddysee Influx'. This was way back when we were on the UBB.threads system, and Munch's Oddysee was generating hype. As with all of us back then, our first 100 to 200 posts would be spent mostly in Oddworld Discussion, Fan Corner, and Oddworld RPG before we ventured out and realised there were other non-Oddworld discussions taking place.

During the late 2003 Moderator Elections, Sander nominated himself for Oddworld Help Moderator, and went on to win the majority vote. This was way back when Hobo won the Oddworld RPG Moderator position (bet some of you didn't know that!). For just shy of 3 and a half years, he diligently helped and was a constant face in OWH, rivalling the great example Lampion set. But with his interest in Oddworld waning, he decided to step down and take up an opening in Off-Topic Discussion.

And that, ladies and gentlemen is where we are today. There's a lot I've left out, the good times, and the bad, but suffice to say, in the time Sander's been here, it's been a nice journey.

From all of the staff, it's been a pleasure Sander, and we all hope you do well in life and the future :)

Alcar...

DarkHoodness 05-16-2008 08:58 AM

Hehe, I haven't really been here so I can't really say thanks. :P

But what I can say is, even though he doesn't have time to moderate anymore, I hope he still has time to drop in on OWF every now and then. :)

Havoc 05-16-2008 09:08 AM

C ya Mojo! Maybe we'll meet again someday!

Good God, maybe the Moderator Island thing is portent to this forum.

First Rexy, now Mojo, it is just creepy.

See ya Mojo.

Thanks, Sander, for all your help and all the giggles. It was a pleasure meeting you all those years ago, and it’s always nice to have a member so kind and non‐threatening as you. Now that you’re free from the suckered tentacles of OWF’s captivating allure, I hope you do brilliantly in all you turn your time to. Don’t forget: we still love you, and we’d chain you to the floor if it meant keeping you. But I don’t have a chain, so just keep popping in and saying hi until I acquire one.

xxx

Alf Shall Rise 05-16-2008 02:57 PM

Good-bye Mojo, I will miss you as a mod.

Bullet Magnet 05-16-2008 03:58 PM

I'm starting to suspect that this is pretty much an all-purpose video.

That, along with this:

So long, AlphaScrab.

So long, AlphaScrab.

I'm so glad someone mentioned AlphaScrab. I realise he had a change of name, but I will still remember him as Alphascrab, or AS ;)

Like I've said in private to a few, there are few Moderators I wish I were like. Sander is one.

Alcar...

goodbye, AlphalphaScrab. May your journeys outside of the internet be plentiful and fruitful.

I would have said "AS," but that's skirting dangerously close to:

Good-Bye Mojo. I hope to see you another day. But when, only time will tell. Farewell Mojo.

skillyaslig 05-16-2008 11:53 PM

Thanking ye Kindly fer ya help Mojo. Your eyes are bright indeed.

Wil 05-17-2008 02:21 AM

What’s with that second clip? Has the first half of Cox’s full hour Cambridge Chimes been elided, or did he get it wrong?

Bullet Magnet 05-17-2008 03:04 AM

I can't remember if the full hour was in the episode, but clearly if it were not it was not included it was for pacing, or for time.

Wil 05-17-2008 03:09 AM

Sometimes maximizing humour compromises suspension of disbelief. Are we to understand the characters don’t actually care about perfectly replicating this legendary melody? Storytelling disaster.

Bullet Magnet 05-17-2008 03:40 AM

It's possible that the characters concerned, the writers, perhaps even the target audience, are not so acquainted with that particular melody as the present company. Or perhaps Cox himself, with his sharp wit, has worked out that the abridged version can only accentuate its withering effect. He may have noticed that Carla was about to leave and had to cut the tune short in order to finish within earshot.

Or maybe he has something against Mojo somehow, and by some epic thought process realised that across the fourth wall, a million viewers, Youtube, search engines, video games, forums and the peculiar impulses of a couple of eccentric internet message board enthusiasts he could cause a farewell thread to veer so terribly off-course and off-topic.

Wil 05-17-2008 03:44 AM

He can’t have abridged it on the spot, because he performed the final two permutations, not the first two. I therefore conclude that your second paragraph is entirely composed of irrefutable truth.

Bullet Magnet 05-17-2008 04:02 AM

Then Dr Cox is more awesome that we ever previously imagined, and he hates Mojo.

Anonyman! 05-18-2008 05:34 AM

Dear God the sheer amount of genius is phenomenal. I think my brain just shat itself while giving birth to an orgasm. Wait, what?

Edit: So long Mojo! You will be missed and that empty space will never be filled in the puzzle that is the OWForums.

Wil 05-18-2008 06:45 AM

I’m getting quite addicted to this. Which useless staff member can I kick next?
