Hiotock bade it sho Wollymood - Double plus good!

:

Gamasutra reports that Universal Pictures has just announced a completion of licensing negotiations to bring the game BioShock to the silver screen. For those unfamiliar with the property, it was the much lauded Game of the Year contender praised for its storyline which emerged through gameplay, not just cutscenes. The director for the project is to be Gore Verbinski, who proved himself on the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and the current writer for the screenplay is John Logan, who is recently known for the also-creepy Sweeny Todd.
Sounds awsome, though I hope they are going to make the story about the fall of Rapture rather then the story in the game.

Gabrielacf 05-13-2008 03:44 AM

Sounds awesome , ive yet to play bioshock and dont think i ever will (my pc sucks and i only have a PS3).
How ever ive heard of its epic plot and can only hope that the movie team doesnt ruin this great story.

Alcar 05-13-2008 03:50 AM

I haven't played Bioshock for longer than a minute at a time, but I do like the storyline.

Still a little shocked it made it into Hollywood before Halo.

Alcar...

Gabrielacf 05-13-2008 04:04 AM

Probably because they already have a story to work with on bioshock.
Where as Halo they actually have to make one up due to the original being standard shit.

DarkHoodness 05-13-2008 04:06 AM

Oh dear.

I'm always sceptical when they want to make a game into a movie. No-one ever seems to be able to get it right, no matter how qualified they are or what they've done, unless the people who want to make the movie are the same people who made the game.

It'd better not turn out like the Doom 3 movie, though. . . Then again Bioshock actaully has a better storyline and a lot more material to work with.

mudling 05-13-2008 04:17 AM

Halo 3 actually did have a good story, but it is merely opinions.
Hmm, I do hope it breaks the path that other movies from video games go on, and it is unusal it is being made a movie, I mean don't get me wrong, I love the game.
We'll just have to see.

Eh, it wasn't that bad.

Atleast it was coherent, if a bit convoluted at the end.

Gabrielacf 05-13-2008 05:17 AM

Ill give you that. I guess we can all agree that FPS games arent known for there story lines though. So the idea of a halo movie is purely based on hype rather then its story.

That said i think silent hill did a great job for a video game to movie piece , from the score to the feel of the movie it was faithful to the source while providing a semi new story line.
Hopefully Bioshock's movie will provide a form of media that outdoes silent hill.

Anonyman! 05-13-2008 12:42 PM

Fall of rapture. Do it.

(Maybe if good sequel could follow Jack. Saving of course, the "SAVE" ending was much better. And if in the first movie the protagonist harvests than we has good.)

Hobo 05-13-2008 12:59 PM

Meh. Other than the 50s theme this will be lame lame lame.

used:) 05-13-2008 03:57 PM

I've never played Bioschock, but I've done a lot of looking into it. I too am skeptical about it going to the big screen. Most, if not all, movies based on videogames I've seen have always ended up being unsatisfying. I just hope they don't ruin the universe of it.

Moosh da Outlaw 05-13-2008 04:08 PM

Sounds awesome. Bioshock had a great plot, awesome setting, and truly evil characters. I'd love to see them continue it as a movie, but aren't they making a second game already?

DarkHoodness 05-13-2008 04:09 PM

Hmm, you have a point, Gabrielacf. Silent Hill worked well as a film, even if it was losely based on the game. I think that's about the only exception I have for a game to film transition that worked. . .

It was good enough that I forgot that it was a game-based-film in the first place and remembered it as just another film I watched. :P lol.

Yea they are. It's rumored to be a prequal with events taking place during the fall of Rapture.

Alf Shall Rise 05-13-2008 07:20 PM

Sounds really good, hope it isn't a disappointment.

Bullet Magnet 05-13-2008 09:37 PM

The only thing that bugs me is the slippery-slope anti-science message that permeates the concept of Rapture. There are people who actually take these things seriously. Lobbyists, mostly.

Havoc 05-14-2008 03:47 AM

What moron changed the topic title?

Strike Witch 05-14-2008 03:58 AM

I'll bet...on Hobo.

Oh, don't get me started on the Doom movie. That was shit.

Hopefully, it'll turn out well. Every movie based on a video game I've seen was shit excluding Silent Hill.

WRONG

You lose any respect I had for you.

DarkHoodness 05-14-2008 10:27 AM

It was BM. :P I watched him do it!

Rofl, just think though. . . If Bollywood made a movie based on Bioshock, complete with indians dressed as europeon 1950s-style westerners, cheesy effects, and don't forget the weird group dance sequences. . . :)

It'd be so terrible that it'd be comedy gold! :D

Eh, won't miss it.

Disgruntled Intern 05-14-2008 01:03 PM

I'm personally looking forward to it.

Which special effects house they choose to use will of course kill or amplify any excitement I have.

Also, I really hope they show a little sister being harvested. More children need to die in films, says I.

Havoc 05-14-2008 04:04 PM

Will never happen even though I agree.

Anonyman! 05-14-2008 04:09 PM

Well, a child dying is one thing. Tearing it apart and pulling a slug out of it's tittering corpse is another.

Havoc 05-15-2008 03:37 AM

Yup, the last one is funnier.

Strike Witch 05-15-2008 03:55 AM

Gee, next time the title will be a pile of leetspeak, won't it?

Nate 05-15-2008 04:43 AM

No, because the mod team are in agreement that leetspeak post-1998 is an abomination and must be punished with stoning. Preferably in the old testament use of the word; where the person is laid down and a massive boulder is slowly rested on them until they're squished flat. No, really

Strike Witch 05-15-2008 05:33 AM

Okay, howabout Orwellian Newspeak?

Anonyman! 05-15-2008 12:44 PM

Or A Clock Orange type Nadsat. So that way we good ol' Droogs could keep up with the verbal ultraviolence! As creech about this and drat about that we utter from our gloopy goobers
