High Tech Oddworld
Do you think that Oddworld is very high-tech in the terms of using technology like prosthetics (slig pants) , telecommunications, transport (teleports) ???
That is like asking is the world a very high-tech place. Some places are, and some places aren't.
but its really a difference between the native world and the ultra high tech industrial world. But I gave a bad question, my mistake. the question is, is oddworld on higher level of technology like our world??
Looking at the highest level of tech they have, then yes. Then again they use huge blades to cut up meat so...
The whole point of Oddworld being ten times the size of out planet is that it increases the technology gap. Say fire was invented on planet earth and then took a century to spread across what then passed for civilisation; on Oddworld it would take a millenia.
So what we have on Oddworld is a vast gap between the upper reaches of technology and the lower, native lifestyles. |
Like Nate said...
Plus it depends on what kind of technology you are comparing: They have teleportation, but on the other hand, our trains are way better then the ones we saw so far. |
Well, it makes sense that teleportation technology would be able to spread around the planet faster than train technology...
I think part of the confusion is because the technology is there, but the world looks unevolved. I think this is because the Glukkons proberbly keep it all to themselves. The Glukkons live like kings with all this powerful technology, where as the Mudokons are still living like cavemen.

Thats it, only a few ones can use that advanced technology. And this raises another question...Who developed that cutting edge technology for Glukkons??
They might have stolen it from other races. I mean, Glukkons can't do much for themselves, right...?
Vykers, duh.
:
Glukkons will go with what's cheapest, but then, it still remains confusing in how quite advanced biological modification technology exists for Vykkers, as well as portals, yet other technologies are so much lower key. It' not just trains and so on. |
Oddworld is different from Earth, so their levels of technology are also different in all categories.
:
Glukkon technology is behind our own (it has only primitive TV), but they purchase plenty of technology from the Vykkers, who are in advance of us, particularly in the field of medicine, and in whatever specific technologies will aid gameplay. :p Clakkerz … well they don’t really seem capable of much advanced, but they do have not just ready access to TV and radio, but Eugine Ius does have that laptop to control Buzzarton’s gates, and both he and Packrat Palooka are familiar with Oddworld’s Internet, depending on how literally you want to take comments that could easily just be throwaway jokes. |
:
There's Internet on Oddworld?!
As I say, they do if you want to take literally what could just be throwaway jokes. I don’t have the resources to find these jokes right now, but some of the things Packrat Palooka and Eugene Ius say in Stranger’s Wrath will be of interest to you. Also, from the back of Packrat Palooka’s Outlaw Character Card:

This doesn't sound like an Oddworld name.
I know it's from Oddworld, it just doesn't sound like Oddworld.
Because the Outlaws all have western sounding names (Minus Gunter)
They should have Oddworld sounding names. That would be much cooler.

Sometimes you should try not to post when it's obvious your post is totally uninteresting and doesn't add anything to the conversation. Read your last post and ask yourself if it was really worth to post. You'd be amazed the number of posts I start and finally don't send |

Well first off, I agree with Xavier so we've gotta stop talking about things that are outside the conversation. Second, they are SUPPOSED to have western sounding names because half of Stranger's Wrath takes place in the stereotypical western cowboy areas. Filled with rednecks, hill billies, cow boys, pioneers, etc. Anyways....back on topic, Oddworld certainly does have higher tech. than Earth. Now....somethings are actually pretty cruddier than inventions on Earth but they still have more advances than us. Some species like Mudokons, Gabbits, Grubbs, etc. obviously don't have that much high tech (Unless they were slaves to factories) but obviously the likes of Vykkers, Glukkons, Wolvarks, etc. do indeed have high tech. Some of their tech though seem kinda......old and cruddy....but still. |

Oddworld may be different from Earth, but that wouldn't explain such varying levels in different tehcnological fields in the same place (rather than the variation between third world and us etc.) Oddworld is vaguely based off Earth, so this is still a confusing issue. |
One of the things I liked about Oddworld was the fact that they used Machine guns as opposed to Laser guns. I loved how alien and Sci-fi it was, yet it lacked the slick, Star Wars style Sci-Fi that everyone was used to.
When you play Stranger's Wrath, you see that their technology is quite limited in comparison to the Abe games, and is almost as limited as our technology was in late 19th Century. And Stranger's Wrath doesn't take place that much further away from the other three games. The technology is reletive to how much they need it in a specific area of Oddworld. For example, in the Wild west, it doesn't look like the Clakkerz need technology in their every day life or their jobs, so they can get along fine and dandy without it. But in order to rake in as much Moolah as possible, the Glukkons need to use lots of technology in order to communicate with other parts of Oddworld, speed up production of products with machines and to make their lives easier. |
What the hell is an Oddworld-sounding name? A dead president, lightly grilled bread or the one derived from "mollusc"?
