The ambition of Oddworld Inhabitants

Ah, they gave us so much to look forward to... the quintology, the habitales, the faerietales, and so much more. Yet, they managed two quintology games, one bonus game and a completely irrelevant one before moving on. Was the swapping from games to movies really so unforeseeable that they didn't know till the last second, or were they too ambitious? I understand Lorne's reasons, but i still think it's a shame that they didn't carry on anyway, or alternatively, do movies and other OW games.:fuzsad:

Moosh da Outlaw 04-29-2008 07:54 AM

I think everyone feels that way, but its too late to change it, so I suppose its something we'll have to live with.

That's exactly what they are doing

kin37ik 04-29-2008 10:26 PM

not quite, they dont make games anymore, they have moved into making films/movies

Xavier 04-29-2008 11:55 PM

They are focussing on Movies, but that doesn't mean you won't see any oddworld related game coming out anymore

Psychonaut 04-30-2008 07:32 AM

But its funny to see Lorne saying in the G4 Icons video that they have moved to the video games because it is the NEW MEDIA !! :) Now they are back at movies. I hope we will see some Oddworld related movies in the future. I want to see what happened after Munch's Oddysee. We have never seen Skyllia or Maggie and Sam.

Actually answering your question; No, the move to films was not expected. Don't forget you're talking about games announced or mentioned over the course of a decade, mostly in the first half of that time. On the other hand, the decision to move to films was made in a few months after the release of Stranger's Wrath.

So I think that there is a possibility that an Oddworld movie will see the light...

Tis a pity, but if the movies are anything like the game (like all whacked and weird) I would watch 'em in a second.

Bullet Magnet 05-01-2008 05:03 AM

The movies will have significantly different plots. The set up, strife and goals are the same, but the way they are presented and achieved will be narratively stronger, rather than game play-orientated.

Psychonaut 05-01-2008 11:13 AM

That is the reason why I am so curious about the Oddworld movies (Citizen Siege)

Citizen Siege will not be an Oddworld movie....

Psychonaut 05-01-2008 11:57 AM

I allready know that, but I mean that I am looking forward to all Oddworld realted movies, which include Citizen Siege.

It will be an Oddworld Inhabitants movie

actually at the moment I'm ready to see anything coming from OWI at all

Psychonaut 05-02-2008 10:12 AM

When is Citizen Siege planned to hit the big screen??

Wil 05-02-2008 01:08 PM

No specific planned date. The last estimate was 2010, but that was several months ago, and things can change dramatically in a few months for titles like Citizen Siege. Basically, we don’t know. Better be patient!

Psychonaut 05-02-2008 01:56 PM

It would be funny if then cancel it and start to make games again ;-)

2010 ? What the hell they wanna make so long on a CGI movie?? Shrek the Third was produced in a very shosrt time...

And it shows...

Xavier 05-03-2008 05:17 AM

Sherk the third was done at the same time as Shrek 2, since they signed the contract for 2 and 3 right after the first one's success.

Plus they don't really count as they are sequels and so most of the design, pitching and finding a team to make it has already been done.

The relevant part would be to know how much time it took for Shrek (the first one) to be created.

No it wouldn't

Shrek 3 was produced so quickly for many reasons. It was in popular demand. They had more money to finance the film, it was a sequal so lots of work was already done, etc.

Edit: Damn! Xavier posted before me. I should really learn to refresh my forum pages after a couple of hours before I reply!

GlukkonGluk 05-04-2008 02:17 AM

I still think its a shame that they couldn't make the movies and make OW games that are related to oddworld but not the movies. By the way, does anyone know why they made SW when they could have made a quintology, haitale or faerietale? I know i go on about it, but i'd like to know...

Bullet Magnet 05-04-2008 04:47 AM

SW happened when they decided to write stories for the platform, rather than try to wrest the platform into telling the story.

The Meep Farmer 05-04-2008 06:21 PM

Wait, what?

I just want to say: how do we know that Citizen Seige is still coming out? I havent seen any news about it and the last news I saw about it was dated at 2007 or 6.

I admit I havent been on any Oddworld sites in a while but it dosent seem as if Citizen Seige is still coming out.

Psychonaut 05-04-2008 10:35 PM

I have that same feeling in the last days...I have a bad feeling that OWI is dead...thair site was not updated since 2006...and that saying that new site is coming soon is there for ages!!

Nate 05-05-2008 12:24 AM

Well... Lorne told me to my face that they're still working on Citizen Siege. Can't get much more of a reliable source than that.

Xavier 05-05-2008 12:50 AM

Oddworld.com isn't updated simply because there is absolutly nothing to tell to the public at the moment.

GlukkonGluk 05-05-2008 03:27 AM

No- one mentions the reason that they moved to movies, didn't Lorne feel his imaginitive storylines and stuff were limited due to too much staff and stuff?

Bullet Magnet 05-05-2008 05:47 AM

Expensive development, unsupported platforms, dick publishers, a trend heading away from innovation...

Psychonaut 05-05-2008 04:04 PM

Hmm...it is very interesting to think about what can be different now if damn Micro$hit dont buy OWI....

Xavier 05-06-2008 09:40 AM

wasn't it EA who wanted to buy OWI?
