Abe's Oddysee/exoddus engine.

I kind of want to get into making my own games, like 2d side scrollers mainly. Like Metroid or Abe's oddysee. I was just wondering if anyone knows where i could find a *possibly free* Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus game engine to build a game around. I think its possibly the best 2d side scroller ever.

Edit: Also i dont know how to do code, so if someone could point me in the right direction to learn that it would be great.

Have you looked around much?

Paul is/was trying to decode the game a while ago, and has turned up a couple things so far, background editing is as far as we get, and sprite extraction that's all weirdy.

The A.L.I.V.E. engine was developed by OWI themself, so I'm not sure you will be able to find it for free anywhere. Sorry.

Plus I'm not sure having the engine would be really useful if you never programmed any game like that before.

I don't know if this is what you're after but Fuzzle Guy has managed so far to create a very good Oddworld fan game using the game maker from Here.

I recommend using Game Maker. It's simple to use and produces amazing results.
