Dragonball Live Action Movie
For those of us who are vivid Dragonball fans (myself included obviously) and have been hoping and wishing for the series to ever be adapted to a real life movie, wait no longer! The movie is being shot as we speak and is aiming for an April 2009 release.
Dragonball the Movie will depict The King Piccolo Saga of the original Dragonball manga/anime and will be directed by James Wong, a writer and director who has worked on series and feature films like Final Destination 1 & 3, The X-Files and 21 Jump Street. Many of the original characters will return in the movie such as Bulma, Master Roshi, Piccolo, Chi Chi and of course Goku who will be played by Justin Chatwin. Little comparable photo to see if he's good enough? Guess we'll have to wait and see how good this will pan out ;). http://noticiasinusuales.files.wordp...0429542212.jpg |
I honestly hated Dragon Ball as a kid, but I can see the fun in a live action movie. There's supposed to be a Thundercats movie the same year. Don't know whether it's live action or animated.
|
Gabe!!! You're back! And I agree with you :)
|
Should be hilarious.
|
Sounds terrible and like a hoax.
|
Oooo, really?! Well, thats splendid! I myself am a avid fan, and would no doubt been keen to watch it! Like to see the Buu movie though...Bah well, if this one goes good, who knows?
|
Wierd idea to make a movie out of an anime series. Not the same feel to the characters if they are depicted by humans, but it might actually turn out real good in the end. I used to watch DB when I was a kid, so I'm interested about the outcome.
|
I woulda thought there'd be problems here, the major one being that the characters probably won't even look remotely like how they were in the anime. As Havoc said, we'll really just have to wait and see.
Haven't a clue how they're going to get the muscles in there, though I guess that obsessive level isn't present this early in the series. Broly much? |
No, a LAM of DB wouldn't be right. I mean, what happens with all the fighting? And the excessive violence? And the blood and stuff? And all the seizure-inducing flashy lights?
|
I've seen movies that come close to the fighting done in DB. Besides, in the original DB the fighting is more real martial arts instead of the flashy flying beam fighting done in DBZ and DBGT. There are few moments in DB where any of the fighters go airborn, in fact.
|
I testify to Havoc's statement.
Is that guy there supposed to be Goku? That's rather confusing, given Goku was a kid at that point in the saga. Flying might prove problems trying to get it to looks convincing, but maybe not lasers so much. Adding CG over the top would probably work rather well, consider The Matrix's effects, though not really the same, looked quite convincing at that time and it's actually getting rather old now. |
You think this is cheesy?
Wait until you see the GI Joe movie coming out soon. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...es-movie-1.jpg |

Potential to be awesome, but I give it a 95% to bomb.

God, so stupid. I could just totally die. |
Might be a little late to post this, but on reading the Wikipedia article on this, my hopes have somewhat gone down...

I don't agree with the idea of a DBZ movie with a caucasian actor. It should be a god-damn proper asian one. And it should be in Japanese, subtitled to English or dubbed. And I hate that this movie (if it's real) is getting more traction than the Live Action Neon Genesis Evangelion movie. NGE is far superior! Alcar... |
Neon Genesis is a terrible drug-addled haze by the end.
Gurren-Lagann is GAINAX's best work. |

Too lazy to quote you all:
Zerox, you're quite right about Goku being a kid, at that point (in DragonBall, during the King Piccolo Saga, Goku is INDEED a kid) Havoc: You seem to have mixed up a few things. Goku is only an "adult" in DragonBall Z, just like you pictured him in your comparison. However, if the film IS supposed to be about the King Piccolo Saga, Goku is indeed a kid, and not the teenager/adult like in the pic you posted. |
Should be interesting, to say the least. I'm pretty thankful that it's DB instead of DBZ, because I really couldn't see them pulling that off.
|
As a Dragon ball fan I'm over joyed! My last experince with something becoming a movie (Doom), leaves me with doubts that this will be as good as my hopes wish it would be.
|
Doom had a completely different background, different content and most of all different developers. Why worry about something that has no relevance to something else?
The Doom movie was shit though. Event Horizon was a better Doom movie, and it came out in like 97 or something |
The sad thing with Event Horizon was that it made more sense being about Chaos from Warhammer 40k then standing by itself.
And hay, here's a picture from the set. http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2...atwin_goku.jpg |

Sounds horrible, but should be fun, well it's fun to play it anyway (we do it all the time in drama)

No... Look at the picture in the first post... Orange and blue...
|
Yea but in that pic it looks like Goku washed his clothes one to many times...
|
That's lighting for ya...
