Absurdly Slow...

Am I the only one experiencing how freaking slow OWF is lately? It took me almost a minute to open a page just now. Compared to any other site I open this place it pretty damn slow, whats up Alcar?

Nate 03-07-2008 03:48 AM

No problems for me.

And, please members, we don't now need a chorus of "It works fine for me too". Only post if you're also having a problem.

Alcar 03-07-2008 04:03 AM

I have noticed recently that at random times OWF lags quite a bit - but I wasn't sure if it was simply my 'net connection. Anyway, I've contacted the server support team, so hopefully they'll be able to track down what's causing it.

As it stands, I haven't changed anything recently, so I do suspect it's a server load issue or something similiar. Might have to be moved onto another cluster.

every now & then mine slows, but just now it slowed so much it'd make a snail look like Linford bloody Christie.

i almost threw the tower out the window.

It is always a little slow for me but I think it's the PC. Sometimes it can't load a page because it's too much slow but I close it, I re open it and it works fine. I'm not finding particular problems.

AbesGenerationX 03-07-2008 12:14 PM

Sometimes happen me too...

Zozo the Zrilufet 03-07-2008 01:38 PM

I've noticed occasional slowness.

Chubfish 03-07-2008 03:21 PM

It goes slow for me occasionally, but I don't really mind it.

Unorthodox 03-07-2008 06:12 PM

So slow for me I haven't been able to post in the past...

The site loads extremely slowly while other sites work normally.

Possessor 03-07-2008 06:35 PM

It's sometimes so slow to open a page, I just end up giving up trying to wait.

Salamander 03-08-2008 12:03 AM

I was experiencing errors all day today, plus OWF was extra slow. Hurray for slow-bandwagon. But seriously.

Oddey 03-08-2008 01:31 AM

Yeah that happened to me yesterday and yesterday's yesterday. I was blaming it on my internet connection.

Wil 03-08-2008 02:05 AM

Right, we have established this is a problem affecting a load of people. My friend Peter is already looking into it. Thank you, everyone.

Alcar 03-08-2008 02:41 AM

Cheers Wil :pirate:

I'm still discussing the issue with our server support gurus, so we'll just have to hold on tight for a little bit longer.

As far as I can tell from my limited clustered server knowledge, it might be that we're being hosted on a server with many more people they we originally were. If you remember a little while ago the server was offline for about half a day as we were transported to a new data centre.

So I'm thinking it's the new set-up.

OWF do seem to be loading quite slow at times.
I also get the background flashing when I scroll O_o

Alcar 03-08-2008 09:12 AM

Are you using the Native or Industrial style? The background flashing is an unfortunate by-product of a background built in 1px differences/separations. Browsers weren't built with such graphical complexity in mind :p

Even though im new im noticing major slowness occasionally it just decides not to work at all and gives me a blank page :/

abe is now! 03-08-2008 12:41 PM

I am noticing that it's a little slower... and I found recently an internal error with a 404 Not Found error. And when it's too much slow I must close the window because it doesn't load.

Leto 03-08-2008 07:26 PM

Not only is it insanely slow, but it seems to be reloading all images every time it opens a new page. Open main page: the big industrial OWF sluggingly loads. Click OT: it loads again. And that took like 2 minutes, in the end I couldn't be bothered waiting for a thread to open.

Thats something I've noticed for a while too. I dunno if thats my browser trippin or something else.

I've optimised a few things, so I'd like some feedback from members whether this issue is still occuring. Of course, leave it for a few days, and take note, otherwise it won't be reliable feedback.

Unorthodox 03-11-2008 07:17 AM

Hey Alcar just to let you know the site works great for me now. Not a single issue since you last posted in this thread :)

Don't know what you done but it worked, thanks.

Leto 03-12-2008 10:58 PM

You mean there was ever a problem for you? You joined this month. Technically it should only have gotten amazingly faster for you.

kin37ik 03-14-2008 05:48 PM

it goes slow for me sometimes too, but it only does that when i load the main page, and some threads

I was actually looking on the boards a while before I joined. The pages always seemed to hang and such but I just figured it might be an issue on my end. After seeing the thread I joined to post my problems but now everything is fine for me lol.

OddYouko 03-16-2008 02:30 PM

It goes slow for me too..sometimes. I get fed up with it and click it off then log in and everything is fine.
