its time to do a Doctor Who everyone!

I think scince should be stopped before they kill this entire solar system with something that could create a black hole -_-

Insane.

Bullet Magnet 02-07-2008 12:44 PM

Hyperbole: Over one million customers served.

ParamiteSurprise 02-07-2008 12:55 PM

I cant read :/

Wings of Fire 02-07-2008 12:55 PM

:

scientists are not entirely sure what will happen when they switch the machine on
Don't you just love it when they say that?

Bullet Magnet 02-07-2008 01:18 PM

That's kind of the point of experimentation.

Wings of Fire 02-07-2008 01:22 PM

Usually the collapse of the earth into a black hole isn't on the list of side effects though.

With the stakes this high I say they need more time to research the theory.

Jordan 02-07-2008 01:29 PM

NU! NOT AGAIN! IT BURNSSSSS.

These are black holes with event horizons so minute that the chance of them ever intercepting in their lifetime even a single jot of matter is extremely diddy. Such black holes are theorized to be littered everywhere, floating through us as we speak.

Edited because I’m in backwards land.

Strike Witch 02-07-2008 09:04 PM

I wonder what would happen if I set it on fire.

Bullet Magnet 02-07-2008 11:15 PM

You would be billed.

Emphasis on the 'they' - this is just ignorant journalists spouting their opinions, as always. The scientists know, theoretically speaking, what they expect to get out of the collider.

Besides, I read somewhere that if this thing does destroy the universe, it will happen so quickly that we won't even realise we're dead.

Before or after Space Itself catches on fire?

Ahh, whatever.

All you need to rip a hole in the universe is a Really Big Drill.

Being put that way, it's quite reassuring. And how typical would it be: "What? Lottery record and it's all my..." *disappears along with universe*

Bullet Magnet 02-08-2008 07:29 AM

I guarantee you that we will all still be here at the conclusion of this experiment.

And if I'm wrong, no one will be pointing out the fact, rendering my ego relatively unbruised.

Laser 02-08-2008 09:15 AM

I think that one of the side affects could be creating another universe, mainly becuase hitting particles together 1 mile below the speed of light is theroized to have created the big bang

Bullet Magnet 02-08-2008 12:57 PM

Says who? I've not heard that one before.

Wil 02-08-2008 02:25 PM

A mile below the speed of light? Are you trying to set up a pun for later? Something like ‘the deep c’?

Fortesque13 02-08-2008 06:38 PM

Then I guess I'm gonna get a chance to talk to my future self soon...

Kidding aside, how do you suppose time travel could be done? Put all the SF aside and think a bit...

I'm not a fan of common sense, but it says the same thing...

Laser 02-09-2008 10:50 AM

sorry for my earlier psot.. i was talking a friend of mine who told me about this and it scrambled my mind.

sorry for saying that

Leto 02-09-2008 01:23 PM

I'll believe it when I see it.

It being Stargate.

Mojo 02-10-2008 05:02 AM

Huzzah. I had the chance to visit CERN with my former study-mates, but I turned it down.

I'm very interested in the whole project though, since I'm a bit of a science-head myself :P.

We really don't know enough about time and it's operations yet exactly. But one point being is that if we do invent a time machine, it won't be coming into the past, or if it does it'll be very careful. Because then if it ever did come back to our time period, we'd know about it now.

Despite our array of knowledge, we still know very little about the operations of the universe and many such things. We're only simple creatures really, and we still (unless global warming ruins everything) got plenty of time to learn more.

Anonyman! 02-10-2008 07:08 AM

Hell, if they destroy the world, it gives me a chance to live out all my Post-Apocalyptic fiction fantasies. Which would be awesome. Kinda looking forward to Nuclear War but this mixes things up a bit.

Laser 02-10-2008 09:30 AM

i better get my leather jacket and buy a massive cyberpunk bike

Anonyman! 02-10-2008 09:44 AM

Nah, I'll go with the steampunk. Check out this ride!

Seriously though, awesome.

Mojo 02-10-2008 09:51 AM

Pfah, check out my computer:

Check out my ban.

ON TOPIC GUYZLOL

MA 02-10-2008 02:35 PM

i dont beleive it! i post a comment on the link at the top with the official story (MA), and all i type is 'i forsee another 'Doom' scenario approaching...', and once i posted it i realise ive made a typo. cant edit. bollocks.

Mutual Friend 02-10-2008 03:22 PM

This thread promised so much, and only delivered a potential apocalypse.

There is nothing to fear...
