Hi there

This issue apparently affects anyone everyone who tries to play Munch’s Oddysee on the Xbox 360. So far, I haven’t come across a solution.

Welcome to the Oddworld Forums, ignorant bliss.

The problem you are describing is a well known issue. Unfortunately it's due to the shoddy backwards compatibility that Microsoft Games (MG) has implemented with Munch's Oddysee. At the moment there is no solution, nor does it appear that MG has any intention of rectifying it.

Sadly, it's down to bureaucracy - MG does not believe Munch's Oddysee is worth the extra time, and furthermore, it appears they won't even provide backwards compatibility for the superior Stranger's Wrath.

I sincerely apologise, you're missing out on the full experience of a fantastic game.

But I wonder what happens if you try to load Stranger's Wrath in the 360? Does something happen?

great response, thanks. i guess they may yet release an update for it. strangely it did work fine for a while, but alas i now suspect i am stuck in a silent world.

thanks again

You'd end up with the same result as if you were to use a Blu-Ray disc in a DVD player. It won't recognise the platform and therefore will not load as you'd expect.

LOL! I guess why Microsoft did his job "at half"!

Paul 02-07-2008 10:00 AM

I thought there was a patch out for Stranger's Wrath now?

Were you playing the same game as the rest of us?

He got the full version I guess :p

Relative to the rest of the Oddworld series, it's terrible. But I was talking about the game in it's own right.

XBC phails...
MG phails...
Poor Munch's Oddysee...and poor people who won't be able to experience it with a real xbox...

abe is now! 02-07-2008 12:29 PM

A little question: will MO and SW be compatible with XBOX 360 in the future? I was thinking to buy a XBOX 360, but I'd like to buy MO and SW too. So, will they?

Dark Elite_H2 02-07-2008 12:36 PM

Munch's Oddysee is compatible with the 360 now, but XBC/MG completely screwed it up...At the title screen, Munch had a case of tourrets...I couldn't help but laugh...
Stranger's Wrath, however, prolly won't be 360-compatible, 'cause Microsoft just won't bother...I mean, look how MO turned out on it...pure crap...

Nate 02-07-2008 11:23 PM

...

To put the answer a bit more simply that what Dark Elite said: No, they won't be.

MS aren't working on any more compatibilities, as explained here: http://oddworldlibrary.net/oddblog/2...inding_down%27

Dark Elite_H2 02-08-2008 02:18 AM

XD Ya...exactly ^^ Although, I wish MG would make OSW compatible with the 360, hell, even some more games that are from the xbox. It not gonna happen...*shakes head*

Wil 02-08-2008 02:24 AM

Remember no official statement has said that no more backward compatibility updates will be released. ‘Winding down’ does not mean that they’ve stopped completely. There is a thin sliver of hope.

Strike Witch 02-08-2008 03:12 AM

Meh, a better idea would be to borrow or buy a cheap second-hand Xbox. it's history for your kids, and if you don't want it, you can pop it on Ebay for other OWI-starved gamers.

as far as i can tell, the xbox forums do tell me that we may see SW on the 360, it's a long shot i know, but im hopefull that they will, because if MG ever stopped working BC, alot of people would be angry.

I'd be interested to see that, have you got a direct link to the thread where it was mentioned?

hmmm, well it seems that the admins have gotten to the particular thread over night, and im not suprised really, as people on the xbox forums do flame each other, and pretty nastily which may have led to the thread's deletion (unless they moved it), i did find, some interesting articles though, i dont know how truthfull they are, but meybe something could be peiced toghether:

been there, done that. to solve this, you must be in a level where it only takes place in the inside. such as the last Only-Munch level with the first snoozer.

Paul 03-09-2008 10:44 AM

What m$ should do is write a proper xbox software emulator, I mean how hard can it be for the richest company in the world to create an x86 emulator and a geForce2 emulator? If they got those nailed down a lot more games would work with no problems. (cept there would be sound issues and a lot more other problems, but thats a good start at least..)

kin37ik 03-09-2008 03:57 PM

that what they should have done that in first place, but you know what m$ is like

mr.odd 06-06-2008 03:42 PM

well i have the same problem, but sometimes the sound works normal when i turn the music off, but it only works sometimes.

Nate 06-06-2008 06:47 PM

mr.odd, please do not revive threads more than a month old. It is considered bad form.

Mac Sirloin 06-11-2008 06:08 PM

Just buy an Original Xbox instead, they're cheap as a typical next-gen game now.
