My sig be borked, yo.
EDIT: Oh wait, never mind, I fixed it. :D Guess I should really google stuff first before asking for advice.
HTML marquee code has changed. You now have to enter ' width=20% 'or whatever number you chose instead of ' width="400" '. Weird. Original post: --- So I'm back on OWF after a long time. Maybe I'll post some more, maybe I'll bugger off back to reality shortly after posting a couple of posts like I normally do. Who knows? :P Anyway I noticed that since I was off, some code's changed or something and my distracting, scrolling signature now takes up half the screen instead of just a small width of my posts as it originally was. This makes it look more distracting and ugly, rather than just an innocent homage to the AO scrolling LED boards. Doesn't the Marquee HTML code work with the ' width="#" ' code anymore? Any other way of restricting the width of my marquee before it pisses too many people off? Cheers. :) - Edd -- You can delete this now. :P |
My Signature is Borked Part II: Return of the Borked Sig!
Apparently VB refuses to accept HTML Marquee tags now. :S
My sig seems to have widened itself again for some odd reason - Something that'll distract people, which is not my intention. It's meant to be a simple, non-offensive homage to Abe's Oddysee's LED scrollsigns, so the width is quite important. However, whenever I modify the HTML, VB comes up with an error. "The Signature Picture function must be used to display images." I tried it with a simple Marquee tag with no modifications and it comes up with exactly the same error message. Since when was the HTML Marquee tag an image? And isn't it weird how it accepts that I already have a Marquee tag in my signature but won't accept it when I try to modify it? Is this a bug in VB? |
I believe, though I may be mistaken, that after all the fun had beating your marquee into shape last time it got glitchy, Alcar changed the forum settings so that no one (who didn't have one already) could set up a marquee in their sig. Which would explain why you can't edit it now.
As for why its glitching again, you'll have to wait until one of the admins shows up; possible cause is alcohol-related. |
There's nothing wrong with it now is there? I disliked how it was earlier, all cramped up and stuff. I dunno if that was my browser or something else...
|
Well, I would like it 75 pix wide instead of 200. . . It does make a difference. Not as small as it once was (Okay, that was too small), but still not as huge and distracting. :P

Your signature came up in Employee Lounge, Edd. Nate was having trouble with it, so Alcar did some fixing, then decided to add marquees to the list of illegal sig content, hence preventing anyone from adding their own. It also prevented you from editing your own sig ever again.
Part of the problem, I suspect, was that the <marquee> tag had both a ‘width’ attribute (set to 20%) and the inline CSS ‘width: 200px’. No idea how you managed to get it to 75 pixels wide with those. The only thing I can think of is that either Nate or Alcar altered it without telling you or me. Incidentally, the ‘width’ attribute has long been deprecated, ever since CSS came out. The <font> tag is also deprecated. <marquee> isn’t even an official HTML tag, and goes against web accessibility standards. You gotta accept there will be teething problems. :p And for the record, I thought it looked better with a width of 200 pixels. |

Campaign for Darkhoodness' signature thing back to 200!!! |
So you all like it that much, eh? :P Alright then, put it back to 200 if you really, really want to (though I'll say here that I originally "designed" (Note: adding black dots between bits of text so they'd be seperated equally) it to be around 40% wide (100pix works well), but thought it was too large) - You're the guys who have to live with it, after all. :) (Well, I say "have", you can always take it off or so)

Still, thankyou everyone. :) |
It's nothing to do with me. In fact, it still looks like 75px on my screen.
I'm sure we'll resolve this one when Alcar returns, if he isn't actually dead from alcohol poisoning, still sitting in front of his computer with MSN running. |
Great, now I can't get that image out of my head.

Okay, I've read the thread.
But what are you all expecting me to fix? I don't see an issue anywhere. Alcar... |
Because I fixed it.
