Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee manule

If this topic already exsits then im sorry.

Anyway, I was bored and I had oddworld on my mind. So I though I would read all the Oddworld manules to find out if there was anything not covered in the game that I could learn.

And I did learn something.

I learned that the Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee manule is possibly, no, DEFINITELY the greatest manule of all time! :D If you haven't read it or read it recently, want a good laugh and still have it, I strongly recommend you read. The first paragraph about the opening menu screen made me laugh out loud. Now I realise i've given this manule alot of hype, so you dont think its as good as I do, then you will upset me and ill will be glad I made you waste your time reading it!:p Only joking.....................:fuzvamp:

Yes! Absolutely true, and you’re by no means the only person to realize this. Back when the U.K.’s Channel 4 had the teletext magazine Digitiser (RIP) broadcast, somebody wrote to it during an ongoing debate‐me‐do over the greatest game manuals to proclaim AO’s. I have it in my mind that it was our ex‐own Anna, a.k.a. One, Two, Middlesboogie! (RIP). And!

The manual to Abe’s Oddysee is truly legendary in the field of game manuals, let alone the field of Oddworld game manuals. Moc‐moc‐a‐moc!

My own copy is dog-eared from hundreds of read-throughs and pixel-per-inch studies, yet relatively pristine as is has been conserved over the years.

I remember that I set is as a standard for all other games. I was disappointed.

Remember the original release CD design as well? The first screen of Scrabania, and the best disk that I have ever seen.

It's very nice, yeah. Shame the SW manual couldn't be just as nice.

Xavier 01-10-2008 06:46 AM

Heh yeah, the black and white manual of SW made the guy at OWI quite sad, but it was done by EA

ParamiteSurprise 01-10-2008 07:30 AM

I was waiting for a thread like this!, yes i have the same, the humor in it, i like it, when i first got the game i didn't like reading, now i just realised how social Oddworld Inhabitants are!

"If we have to tell you how to turn your PlayStation, then the game is going to go straight over your head, so return it now and invest your cash in a job tranining program"

...

I got the platinum edition PC version. It was two photocopied pages stapled together as the slide-in cover for the CD-ROM.

Would anyone care to scan in this wonderful manual?

skillya_glowi 01-10-2008 05:35 PM

I must've re-read my AO manual about a hundred times, but miraculously I still have it and in readable condition (unless you count the fact that the cover is missing and it's held together by mailing tape). I haven't seen many game manuals but I agree with its being a gem :p The humour is fantastic.

The CD itself is also very beautiful IMO.

Haha, I love manuals, used to get realy exited about a game, rush to get it, open it, and then spend the next half hour reading the manual.
I'm more impaciant now so I just play the game.
Still, it shows how much effort OI put into AO, I mean, they managed to nail the manual, so that means they must of nailed everything else in the game aswell.
Haven't read it in a while though, but next time I need to do some bed time reading, I'll give it a shot, if only all books came in that size! jokes
;)

ElumFan 01-11-2008 03:16 AM

I agree that its funny. Also, for some reason, the print on my Abe's Oddysee manual smells really good.

Oh my Nate, if I was back home I'd do it straight away. It is a beautiful manual - to the point that I went and bought a second copy of the PlayStation version when I misplaced the original manual.

I also tried to search for it on Google, but it doesn't look like anyone has already scanned it.

Alcar...

Jordan 01-11-2008 06:56 AM

Took me about an hour, but I scanned it in for you Nate. The size went all retarded when I uploaded it, so this is the best I can do until someone can get a better one.

I still have mine yet it is kinda ripped on the edges -cries-
I agree with ElumFan the print does smell nice xD

Xavier 01-11-2008 09:29 AM

Jordan, you can send it to me and I'll upload it on TOL somehow. ;)

mudling 01-11-2008 09:48 AM

Sadly mine was in black and white, never knew there was a colour one, since I have the old PC version of the game, but now I see what you're all talking about, haha, I thought the black and white manual was good, but this one looks supurb, I agree with what everyone's been saying.
Wow, OWI realy put alot of effort into every last bit.

metroixer 01-11-2008 03:18 PM

Haha I have both the pc AND playstation cds of the game. Sadly I lost my playstation manual so I gotta stick with my black and white one on the pc. Still good for a quick laugh though :D.

Oddworld is just one of those games I find in my aged, childhood game collection that I pull out and play every once in a while.

I have both the Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus game manuals next to me, at the moment. Right now, I'm perferably looking through the Exoddus game manual, cause that's the one I usually look through. I'd like to point out a few things that made me LOL in the little, old packet.

Remember the GT Store? That was awesome! If it were still out and selling collector's edition movie posters, t-shirts, hoodies, stickers, and so on, I would've bought everything. I'm serious. That stuff is to die for. However, they are no longer selling. If fact, the GT Store is out of existence, I believe. If I ever run into Lorne Lanning someday, I'm asking him whatever happened to ol' GT Store.

On the Oddworld Quintology page, it actually gives a preview of the third Oddworld game Munch's Oddysee. Let me write down what it said:

"The next Quintology, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, will reveal a whole new way to explore Oddworld, thanks to a mind-blowing new game engine, and a cast of characters guaranteed to give you nightmares. Or sweet dreams. All depends on what you find cure and cuddly. Us, we go with cuddly. Especially if it has tentacles or nasty poison spikes that can penetrate you brain.

"Munch's Oddysee will peer deep into the strange and bizarre realities of those hanging out at the bottom of the food chain. You'll meet the cute and cuddly inhabitants anxiously waiting their turn to receive drops of acid in their eyes (don't worry, it's all in the name of a safer fabric softener). You'll talk with those who have donated their organs to science (before they were dead). How else can we learn if our new and improved products are truly safe for the most valuable creatures on Oddworld - The Khanzumerz! As they say at Vykker Labs, "It's OK, really, they won't feel a thing!" Munch's Oddysee: A Screaming Good Time."

...Who are the Khanzumerz? Then again, this preview was before we knew about the move to the Xbox, the 3-D enviornment, and all those bells and whistles.

There is much more to the manuals like little strips of humors here and there, but that is more than I can type up on one post.

Oddworld has been an on/off thing for me, like a lightswitch, and I only own Oddysee and Exoddus (since I decided to stay a loyal Playstation fan and not get an Xbox). Deep down, I'm still a fan of the game. Who knows? Maybe if Citizen Siege comes out, I'll be back in the swing of all this. Then again, that is another year from now...

Jordan 01-13-2008 02:26 AM

Xav I just rescanned it. Is there any way of sending it you without the size going funny? I tried email but it was 3 kb too big to send.

Wil 01-13-2008 09:43 AM

Send the pages in smaller groups. It would be better for users trying to view/download them from TOGG if there were separate image files for each page/double‐page spread, anyway.

That’d be because GT was taken over by Infogrames, who were in turn taken over by Atari.

Most likely it’s two years or more away.
