.ddv movie files.
 

Does anyone know something about .ddv files? I know they are movie and the can be watched with Masher.exe, but what about them? Can I convert them? Or use them with other programs?
I found in an old website, all the AE's movies of passage for example tunnel to tunnel in the Mines. Here's the site http://www.old-games.ru/game/addon/343.html.

That site is russian so no idea, what the hell is masher.exe?

It's an application that opens .ddv files. If I can I'd attach it with an archive. Tell me if I can please.

Can I ask just a question about what I found? It is related to Oddworld because they are AE's movies: who made them and does anyone know them?

We don't even know what movie player you're talking about, that link is russian and it looks like a 404 page to me..

Actually I'd love to have a .ddv converter too, I've been waiting for years for someone who could read and convert them.

No, I don't think it. Because I have in my PC Oddworld's .ddv movie files. You can download them here http://www.old-games.ru/download/addon/54.zip and they can be opened with a little application. I attach it here. If with this link you won't download the movies, please forgive me. Then I'll give you another link and I am sure it will be correct.

Thank you Paul. Now I understand how I can make a .ddv file! If you download the ZIP from that site, you find all the movies about AE; not the FMW but the clips that apper when you pass a zone of a Tunnel in Mines for example.

Because those ones are in the lvl archives, prob with a header prepended to the data too.. I've emailed the guy about the masher lib, maybe he'll help me figure some stuff out since its 10 years old now..

So you can only read the ddv files, but can you also convert them into other formats?

I don't know. I searched for a conversion in Internet for hours. But I didn't find anything. Now I am searching. I hope to find some interesting results... after Paul's explanation.

You can't convert DDV's back to avi or whatever, thats what you have to pay the $1000 for.. but you can't even do that anymore because the guy said its deprecated now (since its 10years old etc).

Can we back to the source of those files and then find the AVI version of them?

Huh? You mean hack in to oddworlds servers and get the orginal versions???
The only thing masher is useful for is being able to create new DDV's which would be somewhat helpful in reversing the format I guess..

I don't think OWI has this files. I think someone saved them as AVI and then he converted them in .ddv. You can ask to that guy if he can send you some information about finding the original AVI.

If anyone has them OWI has them, since they created them why would a 3rd party company have them? (they dont even have the source for masher lib anymore)
OWI would also have the 3ds max/ maya files for these movies, and so could re-render them in high resoultion if they really wanted to..
Any other format of these vids in AVI is because someone has recorded their screen or something, or converted the psx str's, which would be far from the orginal.

Hey, I lost my Exoddus PC version disc and when I play my game, the game doesn't play any movies in? Do I miss some files, or something? Can someone tell?

It dosent copy the movies to your hd when it installs the game (since back then hd's where smaller and more expensive..) so it would run them from the cd.
So you need to copy them from your cd after the game is installed to the folder where you installed the game and it will play them from there.
