Violence in video games
I'm not sure wether there is a thred for this all ready because the search is not working for me.
So what are your views on videogame violence |
Media and general idiots, parents etc. are far too sensetive about it. This essentially is or is going to turn into the 'Do video games cause violence' thing. I disagree with the whole BS thing. I play Halo. I love it. Do I go out and rape and slaughter people? Hell no. I'm far less violent than many average retards in my school. It's only the minority, and these people shouldn't be allowed into any form of contact with the public regardless of video games anyway, since they're so stupid to be/pretend they're influenced in this way.
|
It's fine. And if parents don't like it and the game ruined their kid, it serves them right for buying a game with an age rating far higher than them.
What's a game without a little violence? |
Like said earlier, it's the parent's fault for buying the kids a game that may be too intense for them. The rating system was invented for a reason.
Even then, if someone thinks that from a video game, killing someone will give them power-ups or something, that person should go to a sanitarium (Or the "loony bin"). |
People need to stop seeing videogames as something for children. You don't let your 6 year old son watch The Ring but for some reason people allow their 8 year old son to play Manhunt and then suddenly complain that it's to violent? What is this bullshit? I call shotgun!!
|
I don't think it makes people want to be violent, but lately I've been wondering if it does desensitize them to it. What I mean is the more they see it, the less it shocks them.
I'm not considering kids at all into this, btw, I just mean normal human people. |
Violence is infinitely preferable in video games than in reality.
|
This topic has been beaten to death. Does anyone even care anymore? Anyone who isn't trying to boost their political career that is?
|
I thought it was overrated and unfairly critised, compared to movies and other forms of media, but I think they actually have a point, and I feel at this present time it is an issue.
Video games are about what you do, and about your desicions, which leads to the option that you can always persue the non violent option, but that nearly always detracts from the real experiance, it may mean you can't even pass the tutorial level. But it's not so much the violence, but the gore that's gets to me, I mean, it's alot more common now, I mean, the punisher was a shock to me, but now there's several games that include manhunt that are quite gory, in fact, in the reviews I have read, this was the highlight and point of the game, and then there are games that encourage cold blooded murder, in order to continue, from what I gather, one of those games is Kane and Lych. And there are cases where cold blooded murder is fun, like the GFA series (with random rampages happening when people are bored, or randomly running over people, and the fact that is so hard, at least for me to go around without killing a sole, with the exception of missions), and in all videogames involving combat, it is expected to be a highlight, and fun to kill people I guess (There are exceptions, with the G and PG titles, or most of them I guess) I reckon games like fable, pokemon, mario and oddworld are fine with there violences, despite their surprizing critisms, and in RPGs, you mostly have a choice not to kill cold blooded, or kill an innocent, or someone that has done nothing to you, yet you could argue there's still that option, just like there's an option to play violent video games. The Australian government has tried to control this with rating restrictions, which is done all around the world, but also makes Ma, restricted to 15+, the highest level, while movies can have an R18+, at the max, to my understanding, X ratings are band. So the government of Australia is clearly putting more restriction in controlling exposure to video violence, and I guess those pursye enough can always find, but the general market is safe. To sum it all up, yes, I think it is an issue, and there is a point with it being encouraged, but maybe it's just violent people playing violent video games, rather than passive people becoming agressive and violent due to video games. I mean, you can also argue the same thing about Heavy metal and violent movies. But maybe media exposure is changing us, just like in some ways it has shaped our beliefs and points of views. But violence in video games has been overated in the past, now I think it is an issue, and will be a bigger one in the future if not properly addressed. *edit* I'm just provding arguments, so don't get too fired up, and is highlighting some of the beliefs, I agree with it, yet play violent games all of the time. But it's not the whole kids thing, but the impact it is having on everybody, including people old enough to get these games, so far nothing etreme's happening, but, expecially with our youth population, this could increase. Then again, it cheers people up, releases steam, hell, another point of view is that it may in fact stop real world violence in a way. |
It makes me want to hit people with a two-by-four.
|
I've said it once and I'll say it again. If people go around chasing other people with an AK-47 down the street because they saw it in a video game then something wasn't right with them to begin with! Just because some people can't draw a line between fiction and reality doesn't mean we're all that retarded. It's like banning all stairs everywhere because people in wheelchairs can't use them.
|
It's funny, I really do not like gore at all. Except in Gears of War, where it is fantastic. But that is the only exception I have encountered.

I swear this thread is made every 2 months. And everyone has the same opinion the whole time.
|
After playing pacman for a few hours, and doing a substantial amount of LSD, I threw a pink sheet over my friend, chased him around for a bit, got distracted by some fruit, went back to chasing him, and finally I just ate him.
I don't blame it on the video game, though. I blame it on the drugs. |
No, Pacman made you eat your friend.
|
I won't stand for such slander, friend.
That would be like blaming Super Mario Brothers for the neighborhood plumber jumping on peoples heads. He doesn't play video games at all. He's just batshit crazy. |
I blame Kid Icarus for causing me to shoot people with arrows. I wasn't trying to emulate the game. I was just so damned angry from playing the game that it had to be done.
|
You make me laugh.
|
I crushed my little brothers skull jumping on him when we were playing Mario.
|
That's not funny.
|
IMO to much violence is a bad thing. <.<

mudling. Stop writing long boring posts that no one wants to read.
Or i will ban and IP block you. Dick. |
Hobo you're joking right?
No one has to read my posts, and sorry if I'm trying to add some intellect to the conversation. I mean, I'm actually thinking about my posts, and writing quite a fair bit in each post, rather than writing lots of little posts, and I'm doing the opposite to spamming. And even if you don't like my long posts and you read them anyway, well ok, you cannot like my posts, but there is nothing you can do about it whilst having a justified reason. And if you were joking, I'm waiting for a lift fopr the airport and am bored, so umm, yeah. Oh, and this topic has been discussed alot, and there's realy only two ides, those who care, and those who don't. |
He said whilst. What a nerd.

Mudling: Shut up. Just...shut. up. When I was the O/T mod I was quite the monster. Hobo is following in my footsteps, which pleases me to no end. If Hobo tells you to stop doing something, stop. Hobo. Will. Ban. You. You don't bring any intellect to the threads. All you bring is long-winded posts that smell of onion scented farts, which, oddly enough, are the kind of farts my dog has been dropping all day. Anyway, you're stupid. Post less. |
Oy. If Hobo bans mudling, I'll reverse the ban. Feel free to write long winded posts if you want; which is not to say that I don't think they would be better if you trimmed them down a tad.
OANST and DI: please leave your back-scratching, orgiastic, mutual onanism to PMs. |

That's become such a popular word around here lately. Just tell us to stop jerking off for christ sake. Anyhow, I love violence? (half assed attempt to stay on topic that probably won't save me from getting an infraction) |
