Oddworld MMORPG?

I was searching the web for paramite pictures and found this:

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/sho...9&page=1&pp=15 :p

He sais on page 2 that the artwork is for a oddworld mmorpg. Han anyone heard about this project? :fuzconf:
I mean, it cant be Wage Wars, right? since CS isn't on oddworld, right?

I think it’s just a personal project of frigi’s. It’ll be interesting to know what becomes of it. The closest Oddworld actually ever came to an MMORPG was the halted Hand of Odd, but that was an RTS. You’re right, Wage Wars is a Citizen Siege title, not Oddworld.

That's a really cool realisation of a paramite. It looks different than we're used too, but it's actually very refreshing to see a new style like that.

It's too bad that he missed the extra digits that emerge from the knee of each leg. I'm sure that would kill him if someone pointed it out, given the attention to detail already.

I haven't heard of an Oddworld MMORPG... wait, or have I? It might be a fanmade freeware, I know that there is some real talent among amateur developers. It's possible that this is OWI-sanctioned, but if it were truly official development I doubt that this shining example would be available online like this.

Awesome model anyway, thanks for sharing, maybe someone should send him a mail asking what exactly this model is for.

abe is now! 11-03-2007 04:15 AM

I agree with you... I don't think they are official production of new Paramites. Maybe a fan who is in another forum. Anyway, compliments to him, those pics are very good :)!!!

MMORPG = MASSIVE multiplayer ONLINE roleplaying game.
The words massive and online are problems here. It usually takes several years for a hired, skilled developer team to make a mmorpg, or any other game, and to run a mmorpg requires huge servers, dedicated supportteams and loads of other stuff, so I have problems imagining how fanmade freeware is compatible with the term mmorpg... :fuzconf:

Not all MMORPGs have to be huge. Check out Maid Marian Online. That would have about 200-500 players I'd think. I would say the term 'massive' is supposed to mean it's available for the world to play together.
It could also mean there's a massive selection of features. It doesn't just have to mean the ammount of players.

It does take several years, but it is not beyond the compass of a labour of love for a few dedicated coders. A prime example would be this astonishing piece of work, and I urge you to explore the site just to appreciate the sheer scope of it (especially the videos).

Ok. I'm oficially impressed. :))
If their project is as serious I'm going crazy. And I want that infinity-game too.
A am going crazy now, I feel it!

Lol, the best part about people trying to make an MMORPG who not affiliated with the original company who produces the game, is that they can't charge monthly fees :D

Wow, this is quite exiting, but if it does come to light, it will unfortunatly take some time, ... alot of some time.

Bullet Magnet 11-10-2007 03:46 PM

Has anyone found out anything more about this guy and his work?

mudling 11-11-2007 11:57 PM

Hmm, searched the link you provided BM, very interesting, however, Infinity uses ships, no real character models, and they have said they have done this becuase MMO's would need thousands of character meshes, and it would take them far too long to do so, using ships only realy saves them time.
However, I'd love to see even a character creater of an oddworld MMO, I'd play around with it for hours, lol.
Hmm, I guess a MMO could be done to the style of what HoO could have been, with the conflicting sides and all.
