QuikSaving
Were you glad about the introduction of 'QuikSaving' in Exoddus?
I was. It made the game a lot easier, and a lot funner. Having the ability to save only by Memory Card Save, or at checkpoints, was very tiresome and frustrating. :fuzemb: But then again, a lot of games require Memory Card or checkpoint saving.. If Exoddus is your favourite Oddworld game, is QuikSaving the main reason? |
I kept forgetting about it. My brother would randomly walk past and say "quiksave!"
I liked it more for the characters and environments. |
lol I used to do that when playing it with my friends, we'd get past a part we'd been trying for ages, and they wouldnt qiksave, so i'd be yelling SAVE SAVEEEEEEE SAVEEEEEEEEE!
I played Abe's Exoddus before Abe's Oddysee. So I wasn't all that bothered.
Well, actually, I found myself enjoying the game less because it was so easy. Less frustrating, yes, but it took me less than 2 days to complete it (compare to 2 years on and off with AO). Now that I haven't played AE for a while (a few months I'm guessing) because I was redoing AO, I keep forgetting about it.

I agree. I loved AE and quicksaving. I think anyone who played the game with other people in the room will be familiar with having people scream "QUICKSAVE!!" at you every three minutes.
I prefer AE to AO but not for the Quck Save, but for the game in general. But Quck Save helped me in much cases and so I love it! But I can complete AE (saving all the Mudokons) without Quck Saving, but I'd spend much time.
I always tought AE is harder than AO but when I completed AE I said it was much easier just because of Quicksaving. But anyway it does not matter to me about QS.It just matters it is good feeling when playng for me.:crafty:
Yes, I spent more time to coplete Abe's Oddysee than Abe's Exoddus because in AO there isn't the Quick Save. It is much important. It is in MO too and is that game is a very very good thing!
You do actually have the option not to quiksave in AE. It will then act in a similar fashion to AO.
On that note, I may go through it somepoint doing exactly that... |
QuikSave has it's ups and downs. It really helps on some of those harder areas, QuikSave on AO would have been very useful, but it would have made the game less challenging, and thus less appealing (to me). As Zerox mentions, nothing makes me use QuikSave, I simply use it because it's there.
I think that some parts in AO are simply too hard. Without QuickSave in Exoddus, I would think the same.
Yes, it is very important in AE but in AO I can play without it. Anyway there are the saving point that work like Quick Saving.
I think it interupts my playing, I save like every second, I have compulsive qiksaving disorder :(
You are not obliged to use it. But is a good thing. Think: if you don't quick saving you can lose all the game done!!!
I know but I cant help using it, I just use it because its there..
Ah it is an habit. So you are obliged to use it :D.
LoL.By the way-->In AO when you walk somewhere and you see 'saving point' that means you can save your progress here.Or also if you die-you teleport to this point.
You know, I always had a habit of judging a game by its message and atmosphere, and not by how easy or hard it is.
I found someone on this website that played Abe's Oddysee once. When I questioned him about it, he said, "That game sucked balls. It was too hard." I blocked him. |
Yeah, the gamers of today are straying from what gaming is truly about. When you buy a new game, you shouldn't buy the manual untill you finish it. You figure out the controlls by yourself. Even if it's hard, you should never give up, that way, the ending theme music will be more gratifying. Kinda like a fighting game. I found it eaisier to experiment rather than studying lists of combos.
But yeah, nerdliness aside, I haven't even beaten the games on my own. I fell into that modern gamer pit and found cheats to mess around with. At least I got back as far as 'return to rupture farms' Before I died a million times and it faded away from me. With AE, it was the same thing, but I actually got up to the last level ( with the help of my dad of course) Before resorting to invincibility cheats. In short, If it wasn't for quiksave, I wouldn't be here on this forums writing this. Long live the quiksave. I couldn't live without it. |
I'm a purist :p

I used to think quicksave was the best addition but after finishing Abe's Oddysee I realized it wasn't too hard it just seems hard.:fuzcool:I haven't finished Abe's Exoddus with the really happy ending yet but i will thanks to a certain way to find secrets.:fuzwink:

Hmm I think a game being too hard can put people off, I was really stuck in supermetriod and I couldnt be bothered with it because I was getting annoyed. Anyway my dad started playing it and got past the bit I was stuck on at the start, then I managed to finish the game, and now I think its one of the greatest games ever :p

Don't wanna lower the mood but I was actually talking about SuperMetriod there :p ( I was never really stuck on AO, it was kinda easy for me, in fact it wasnt long enough :( )

Personally i only used quicksave because it was THERE. I could complete the game without quicksave if i wanted to though, though AO would have been a HELL of a lot easier with quicksave, as it was very difficult in some parts.
