Lorne Lanning "Guest Stars" on an episode of Codemonkeys on G4 Network

Codemonkeys? I've never heard of it until a few days ago, and as I understand it's quite a hit! The show is about a game company called "Game-a-vision" and details the adventures of the game programmers who work at this company. (BTW, the show is done in the original 8-bit nintendo graphics, very clever) Imagine my surprise when Lorne Lanning cameo'd in the show as a "New Guy" and starts talking about Oddworld, Mudokons and Gabbits, only to get tazed and thrown down a well. Later on he reappears in the show only to get his head knocked off.

Sad and surprising, a fact exacerbated by the fact that I haven't followed Oddworld in years and "boom" here comes this surprise. I looked up the show on G4.com and it says that the episode originally aired on September 12, so the episode I saw just tonight was a rerun. Here's G4's limited mention of it:

I find it interesting that this comes out almost as a response to Lorne's shutting down of the San Luis Obispo facility.... then being written into this show as "a new guy" at another game company.

Just a tidbit I thought I'd share. ;)

Is it really him or an impersonation?

Pilot 09-26-2007 10:37 PM

I can't imagine it was actually him, nor why he would detract from his current work to do something like get tazed and beheaded in a cartoon! I'm sure it was more of a poke at Oddworld than anything else.

He's a good man, but every good man needs a rousing now and then. ;)

The first thought in my mind was that whomever wrote that in to the show was under the assumption that Lorne was "Out of a job" because of the closed SLO facility... but who knows? It'd be neat if somebody had a youtube clip of it or something...

It was a parody. Not that I've seen it. I know such things.

Mac Sirloin 09-27-2007 06:02 PM

Someone needs to give me a link.

It does say "Guest Starring", I think its actually him.

EDIT: Guess who found it? huh? GUESS WHO!?

thank Odd I am here.

I think you may have to look for the clip specifically, its called 'Worst game Ever'.

I know thats annoying, but still, FUCKING ODDWORLD IS ON TELEVISION ONCE AGAIN! AND ON A NETWORK!

HAIL SATAN!

Thanks for the head up Pilot

and well found Kastere, I'm going to put it up for download on TOC later.
Did someone found the second part yet?

Mac Sirloin 09-28-2007 10:44 AM

Yes, in a technicality I contributed to TOL.

Xavier 09-28-2007 12:27 PM

Should be on here: http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/cinema/OS01.htm

I included the original FLV file, but also converted it to AVI just because more people can read it. I'm so awesome ;)

Pilot 09-28-2007 06:19 PM

I'll be darned... good snooping! You can see Lorne in that brief clip on the Codemonkeys site (the one Xavier snagged,) he is on the far right sitting at the table with the black mustache and hair. Too bad the clip ends before he starts talking.

EDIT: *DUH.* Nevermind, spoke too soon... clip just took a long time to load. Earlier when I tried it ended before he started talking. I'm glad the first cameo is there.... now to find a clip of him after he'd gotten out of the well!

This seems like a catchy enough series that someone's sure to pirate episodes of it on YouTube or Myspace... or at least try. ;)

Mac Sirloin 09-28-2007 06:28 PM

Its already canned, the series finale is coming in a week.

Its too racy, but costs like NOTHING to make.

Pilot 09-28-2007 06:34 PM

Oh my, I misread 'series' as 'season' and now that I check, yes it does say series finale. What a shame.

Mac Sirloin 09-28-2007 06:51 PM

Honestly, it was rarely funny, only when Cameos or parodies were done.

The guys from Red VS Blue, "Pretendo", Etc...
And it was really, REALLY obscene, there was frequent (Pixelated) Nudity.
I wished it could've been better, but the creators didn't cater enough to a mainstream audience.

Pilot 09-28-2007 07:51 PM

Yes well put it down in the history books as one of those 'trial' series that just came and went. I've only seen a select few episodes and it does seem to have been pretty low-brow. A lot could have been done with the format since it had a very clever and unique 'nostalgic' layout. Lots of visual appear; minus the pixelated nudity. :)

now to find a clip of him after he'd gotten out of the well!

I'm trying to see what I can do. Actually I'm downloading the full episode right now.

EDIT: the second part with lorne is totally pointless :p he just gets his head chopped off

Pilot 09-29-2007 09:57 AM

Yes it is, but necessary for archival posterity. :p

Wil 11-02-2007 09:57 AM

I just got around to watching this, and in doing so learnt that ‘Elum’ is pronounced ‘Eelum’! :o

moxco 11-02-2007 10:35 AM

I've always said it with a long E sound.

Xavier 11-03-2007 02:56 AM

So do you dudes want the whole thing uploaded or not?

Wil 11-03-2007 03:45 AM

Not especially, just as I’ve no desire to see Game Over in its entirety.
