Lorne on CGSociety: Online game Wage Wars, announced

Like what was reported on OddBlog

Lorne announces the first CS game: Wage Wars!
And it will be Online :D

http://features.cgsociety.org/story_...?story_id=4238

Oh and he talks about Exposé 5 and creativity too :p

Zerox 09-05-2007 09:14 AM

That sounds pretty damn cool.

A machinima TV series too? It will be the first. That will be cool ass.

Wil 09-05-2007 10:51 AM

What?! ‘Wage Wars’? What the hell kind of title is that? It doesn’t say anything! Does it? Anyway, this is all very exciting. Online play? HD machinima series? A ‘full package’ for the Oddworld film? It looks like Lorne is exploring every avenue and then some, and yet it still doesn’t feel like we’re any closer to delivery.

p.s. Just a thought: is Lorne Lanning taking inspiration from his own name by titling everything with alliteration? Brutal Ballad! Citizen Siege! Wage Wars! Haha.

Jordan 09-05-2007 12:21 PM

This is just getting better and better. I hope Wage Wars can be free online, I hate it where you have to pay.

The one new thing that I picked up on there was that Lorne is not going to be the only scriptwriter for CS. Probably a good thing, seeing as the game with arguably the best script was AE, which was written by Lorne together with Chris Ulm.

I don't think you knew about 'Wage Wars'... Prove me wrong.

Interesting stuff. All sounds great to me!

Nate 09-05-2007 06:06 PM

I didn't know that would be the name, but I knew a game in general was going to happen. He hasn't exactly revealed intimate details about it.

skillya_glowi 09-05-2007 06:20 PM

That sounds expensive :-/
But it's good that OWI has finally surfaced from its ocean of secrecy and announced something definite.
Wait, what is this supposed to mean?

"Of course, the gaming audience prefers if there is a tolerable story, but Lanning believes the audience will accept something a little cheesy so long as the gameplay is great.

'So when you begin the preliminary work required to make a game you must start with gameplay and then try your best to synergize a decent story around it. It’s a difficult dance to do well, but in the end you compromise story and character before you compromise gameplay. That’s the nature and priority of the gaming medium.' "

If OWI is going to ever release anything that sounds as bleak as Lorne has just threatened, I'm going to die of shame. :-/

EDIT: And I see they updated the logo...slightly... :p

Nate 09-05-2007 08:32 PM

No, I think he's just making the point that movies and games have different priorities; movies must have good plots but for games, gameplay is far more important.

Cullen Heath 09-05-2007 09:23 PM

Lorne will always be a storyteller. ;)

And, Nate... They told us the name and that it's going to be an online game. That's quite a bit, IMO.

Oddsville 09-06-2007 09:05 AM

This is awsome, even though its just enough info to make you wanna smash your face into the moniter; it is still good to hear none the less. Im glad to hear that they're also tackling projects from all different fronts aswell. Hopefully that means we'll get a stead flow of OW related media once it all gets into motion.

Bullet Magnet 09-07-2007 03:06 PM

I hope the Ballistic deal pays well. Where else has Lorne and Co been getting their income?

Godlesswanderer 09-08-2007 01:52 AM

I was just about to post this but it seems it's already been posted.

BM, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have an income to be honest.

*disappears again*

Manco 09-08-2007 01:52 AM

Wow, a new game in the works? Finally! Sure, it may not be an Oddworld game, but judging by their older stuff, it should be great. Glad to hear Lorne's tackling the gameplay section of the game, and that Citizen Siege will start getting produced soon.

Hobo 09-10-2007 02:27 PM

There's something wrong with the name Wage Wars.

Oh I got it. Here:

What do you think he means by 'Online Game'? An MMORPG? A game with online multiplayer content? Something that must be run in a browser?

That's what I think he means. Something along the lines of Xbox Live.;)

Xavier 09-12-2007 01:29 AM

my guess is a game on Xbox360/PC/PS3 you can play online

It sounds like a MMORPG name to me. But that is just random speculation.

Jordan 09-12-2007 06:49 AM

I'll be getting a 360 for christmas, so I'm happy that I can get the game.

Wil 09-12-2007 08:41 AM

Assuming it does come out on 360, that is.

Xavier 09-13-2007 01:10 AM

To my knowledge they didn't announced on what platform it will be.

I'll simply kill them all if they do it PS3 exclusive :p

Jordan 09-13-2007 05:57 AM

I agree with Xav. DON'T make it PS3 exclusive. And if you put it on 360 and PS3 don't forget the Wii like every other company has. I'm sick of the shitty games being released for it.

Xavier 09-13-2007 09:18 AM

heh, the wii is different, honestly I don't expect any port of WW for the Wii, especially since Lorne always like to push his games to the limit (graphic and content).

Zerox 09-13-2007 12:43 PM

I don't think OWI would be quite stupid enough to suicide themselves by putting it on PS3. Wii is unlikely due to configuration.

PC is likely, though I'd assume 360 first/as well.

Hah!

In my opinion, this whole new storyline they're following right now is just a diversion to get people to take their goals and company seriously. I hope it doesn't backfire, because those two concept art pieces for the OW movie look absolutely perfect.

ConceitArturo 10-03-2007 12:44 AM

"Wage Wars" sounds like it should be RTS to me, or atleast one where you control a group of characters the name implies quite the scale, so I have a hard time picturing an FPS or Action game.

MeechMuncher 10-03-2007 10:32 PM

Wierd...
It sonds like there is a lot of activity going on, like if they were to suddenly start spewing out lots of titles like films and games and TV-shows. That would be really cool, but I wonder how close they really are to releasing anything. I don't know how CS will be, It will probably be a good film, but I want to see some go'ol' paramites and sligs. :p

Xavier 10-04-2007 08:42 AM

All we know is that the game should be released before the film that is planned in 2010.
We don't know if something else will be released earlier.
