Re-release the games?

Probably has been mentioned before but I can't help buy wonder why this hasn't been done. I would definetly buy the games again to get them working under XP. I really enjoy the old games but it's quite a hassle to have to have 2 windows installations on your pc with an old Win98, just to be able to play them on the PC.

Making a dual pack with both games just working under XP would be great. Another option would be to release them online, e.g. via. steam or something like that.

Chubfish 08-04-2007 11:52 AM

I wish they would release a double pack but I think it might be unlikely that they would. But it would be a good idea if they would do it.

Carnix 08-04-2007 12:00 PM

If they were to rerelease the origional games i think everyone on this forum would be happy but remember; not everyone has heared of any oddworld games and compared to the newer games that can be found around town, oddworld is not much to look at so, to those who have never heard of oddworld, it will not sell vey well. and out of those who have heard of it some people didnt like it. So what im saying is that oddworld inhabitants might loose more mony reproducing it then they make reselling it. You must remember that the people who make and sell these games are not often interested in what we want unless they make mony. It's a shame when i enligten myself on somthing i dont want to be true. Please, someone reasure me so i can stop being unhappy.

It's extremely unlikely, unless they get voted for re-release or something.

Carnix 08-04-2007 12:03 PM

THAT'S NOT REASURING! :crying:

Wil 08-04-2007 12:13 PM

They don't need to be re‐released. You can get them off eBay easily, and they play on Windows XP 95% of the time. If there’s anything to be done with them, it’s porting them to handheld consoles, but you can already use a PlayStation emulator with the PSP to do that.

Carnix 08-04-2007 12:16 PM

that's slightly reasuring :fuzzle:

Havoc 08-04-2007 04:14 PM

They might work under XP but I'm pretty certain they won't work under Vista anymore. An updated re-release would be pretty cool but unlikely to happen due to financial things and stuff.

Nate 08-04-2007 07:39 PM

Vista's meant to have better game-support than XP. Certainly Alcar was able to get the games running.

Daxter King 08-04-2007 08:52 PM

If they re-release them, it'd probably be on the Virtual Console or Xbox Live Arcade, etc.

Jordan 08-05-2007 02:35 AM

I definately know they won't be on the virtual console. Sony wouldn't dare use their games on a Nintendo console. But I won't say no to them being on Xbox Live.

djsolidsnake86 08-05-2007 08:05 AM

my dream is to have exoddus and oddysee in high resolution on pc!
like a remake!

Sony doesn't have control over the OW games, it's OWI who'd decide the matter.
Xbox Live is far more likely, though.

Jordan 08-05-2007 09:48 AM

Hang on, the Virtual Console doesn't have a PS1 section does it? So Sony kinda has control of it.

Linkitch 08-05-2007 01:12 PM

Well, if anything an online re-release doesn't really have the risk as making a new line of CD's.
But even then, I can't imagine it being that expensive re-releasing games. Just by looking through one of the publishers that release old games, to me there are a lot of games that were never really that popular.

How about noooooooooo.

I doubt that Sony has any control over it, just because it was released on their console. There are many multiplatform games, ports and so on, so why would the AO and AE games be any different in such a respect? Sony loses ouuuuuuuuuuuuut.

Wil 08-05-2007 03:10 PM

If anyone might still have rights to Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus, it’s Atari. Lorne and Sherry may have aquired from them full rights to the Oddworld IP several years ago, but if EA still has publishing rights over Stranger’s Wrath, Atari could still have publishing rights to the Abe games.

Jordan 08-05-2007 03:29 PM

Aha. Nintendo could do an Atari section then. ;)

Carnix 08-06-2007 01:20 AM

im confused, does this mean it's likly to return or not?

Xavier 08-06-2007 01:25 AM

Anything is possible, my bet is that something will be done during the marketing campaign for the Oddworld Movie ;)

I'm still waiting for an official release of the two abe games on psp :p

Carnix 08-06-2007 01:28 AM

i wonder what would be on the second screen if they releaced it for ds

Zerox 08-06-2007 02:21 AM

I think the chances of release for the DS are very slim. While it can run some decent graphics, the screen isn't quite high resolution enough or large enough for it to play decently. it would need a full remake with different sprites or something for it to work well, as well as how awkward it would be for the controls. Not really quite as versatile as the playstation controller, even with the touch screen: you wouldn't be able to do some of the things in the game quick enough with the touch screen as opposed to a controller.

Carnix 08-06-2007 02:35 AM

true, but the gameboy had a lot less controls then the ds and an oddworld game was releaced on that

Mistress of Oddworld 08-06-2007 03:17 AM

A OW game released on DS would be brilliant, and just because it's a ds doesnt mean it HAS to have touch-interactive features. the bottom screen could be a menu or rescued employees status or something. Is it possible to have 1024x768 for AE? my laptop keeps crashing, I think it's fed up of the shoddy screen sizes :(

Carnix 08-06-2007 03:22 AM

both the original games only need a screen size of 800x600 so it cant be that thats stopping it from working. have you checked that you have all the requirements? (dumn question i no)

Mistress of Oddworld 08-06-2007 03:29 AM

I have checked the requirements. Fine. But The screen has stretched to fit AE, so it is glitchy and, well, pixellated and going through doors tends to mess it up. advice?

Carnix 08-06-2007 03:31 AM

you cood change the resolution on your pc in the display settings to 800x600. that might work.

looney-bin 08-06-2007 03:34 AM

The reason Oddworld games haven't got that much attention is because there wasn't that much hype for them compared to other games. If they were to re-release the Abe games, I think they'd have to sponsor a show like Startrek or something to get attention.

Mistress of Oddworld 08-06-2007 03:34 AM

It doesn't work. It just pixellates the rest of my poor laptop. lol, never mind. I'll just go find a new computer.

Mistress of Oddworld 08-06-2007 03:44 AM

Not many people where I come from like the kind of genre that OW seems to have. To them the gaming world is all about, racing games, sports, popular platformers/adventures like tomb raider, spyro, crash bandicoot and grand theft auto. typical, boring everyday games. I think they overlook games that are "weird" and "unusual" because they aren't as popular or widely advertised. :( poor oddworld. But it being not well known makes it special. :) and that's why I love it. It's odd and unknown to most "normal" people :D
