more posts on one page
Shouldn't it be posible to see all the posts in a thread on one page? I'd find it a lot easier then constantly clicking on a link to get to the post i want to see. Since you can set the amount of posts on a page there should be an option to be able to see all posts on one page. Don't you think?

If it was all on the one page we'd have to scroll forever to get to the bottom of the page. Also it's a lot faster to load 30 post than 1000 post at a time.

It wouldn’t be mandatory, MoxCo. Carnix is proposing it as an option, as pages limited to 10, 20, 30, or 40 posts and currently options.

Simply adding a 9999 figure to the list wouldn't be a big problem as far as my knowledge of VB goes. Though I can't think of any reason why you'd want all post on a single page...

Epic fail.

Anyway, I don't suppose making it an option to view every single post in a thread would be a bad idea, but I'm not exactly sure if it would be a good idea either. I mean, like MoxCo said, it's take ages to scroll down them. I mean, have you seen how long these threads can get?! They'd also eat up your connection like a bat out of hell. I can see what you're getting at though. I myself have been frustrated when I was looking for something, only to find I had to look through 20 or more pages, when it would have been made so much easier with one page and ctrl+F. |
To put it shortly: it'd be too server intensive.
The more server intensive the forums are, the slower pages load for everyone on the server, and the greater chance we have of being kicked off our host for slowing other websites down. Pagination is a necessary evil, but one which you get used to after years of foruming :p Alcar... |
I forgot about server load. Good one...

Fair enough
but in response to it taking too long to scroll: the speed you take to scroll is responsive on how you scroll but separating posts onto different pages means that we have to open another page to see more posts. I have a fairly slow computer so this takes ages. but never mind "the almigty one has spoken" and i have no more reason to dissagree. |
