how do the puzzles work they obviously don't work by just repeating what the lock says

Actually you really do have to repeat what it says. Let it say "hi" and say "hi" back. Then wait for it while it says the "tang" and "eugh" sequence. Then repeat everything! The nasty "bleuh" at the end included. Don't start to soon or to late, and do it fast enough. That should work.

I don't understand why so many people have trouble with the slig locks. I mean, it's almost the same as whistling to the native mudokons except you have to reply faster to the slig locks. Yet hardly anybody seems to have trouble with the native mudokons, just the slig locks.
