Abes Exoddus movies
I am a little less than half way through the game and I just realized that I am not seeing any of the movie sequences. Is there something I might have accidentally toggled that turned them off? How do I turn them back on? The movies are the best parts and I don't want to get all the way through the game and miss them all.

Euh maybe is it als Oddworld: Abes oddyssée on PC. And if you played without the CD... You can then play, but not see the movies, they are on the CD

I am currently in the Slig Barracks. When I was in the Feeco Depot and got on the train to go to the barracks, it looked like there should have been a movie sequence of the train, but there wasn't. I have noticed this in all of the places where people have told me movies should have been. Someone said there should have been an animated news type report on a tv a few screens back (back where you learn to possess your farts)but again, nothing.

But I can read about some funny things in Oddworld. I played the games every day and try to be an mudokon... its stupid, ok... but i dont have so many and odd is my only sympathy here.. i have a loincloth and a spear of an mudanchee-fighter... thats the only life we have and everybody of us has an spirit.. and my spirit is even oddworld... :( :( :( |
Something similar happened to a friend of mine, but in his case, he could see the movies, but couldnt play the game, because his video card was incompatible to the game, he found out later.

I am playing the PC version. I played the pc of Abe's Odysee just fine. Now that I think aboutr it, when I installed this one and went to start the game, it wouldn't show me the "Background" movie either. WhenI selected that, it paused for a sec and then just started the game. Very annoying. I have a Pentium III with top of the line everything so I don't think it's my system. Everything else is working fine and other games with movies like Myst play fine.

I know why(maybe) On the PC, there are two disks. One is a disk that you install with. the other one is to actually play the game. If you play with the install CD, you can play, just can't watch the movies. look in the container and see if you can find the play disk. tell me if this works.

Melvin is right about the two disks of the PC version. But if you don't want to use any disk at all, you will need to copy all the movie files, all the level files, the sound file, and the executable file, to the directory you installed Abe's Exoddus(example: c:\Abe2).
Movie files ----------> .ddv extension Executable file ------> .exe extension Sound file -----------> .dat extension Level files ----------> .lvl extension If you copy all these files to a single directory, you won't need to use the disks to play the game. Plus, the loading transitions becomes faster, because a Hard Disk Drive is often very much faster than a Compact Disk Drive. Together, they sum up to 650 MB, so you will need a lot of free Hard Disk space. After the introduction screen, a message PLEASE INSERT (PLAY) CD will pop up, but you just press ESC to continue the game. |
I know this I had the same problem(except I finished the game when I found out)You need to insert disc 2.Disc 1 is an installment cd,disc 2 is the one you are suppossed to play off

i just did a full install and when i start the game it says please insert play cd. i hit escape and i continue. and i don't see movies to when i play the game. i noticed it when i rolled out of the mines, the movie how abe is thrown across the sky and gets knacerd on the tusk of some animal then falls into Necrum.

The full instalation option only copy the level files. If you do a full install, you will still need to use the play CD, because it has have all the video sequences ( .ddv files). Read my last post to know how you can play the game without any CD. |
i don't really care if i don't see the movies when i play. i have seen them a million times before anyway :) and if i want to see them i can just put in the code :)

Hmmm. . . I think i had the same problem a while back. The movies for AO worked okay, but the AE ones didin't work at all. Fortuneately, I had my computer re-installed and upgraded soon afterwards, and that fixed the problem. Other then that, I don't know what was wrong. I tried it with both CDs, and did everything in my power to see what was wrong, but to no avail.

This game is old, so I don't think that I could find anyone who could sell me this game. I have the game, I need only this movies. I will be glad for each movie, which You could send me from this game. It's only litle help! It isn't illegally, becouse I am not asking for full game, only for part of it. I helped people who had similar problems, such as game called Rayman. Please again.

I don't think the game is this old that it's not for sale anymore, since it has been quite a succes...
Try looking on e-bay or somethin' if you can find abe's exodus might be a good move. |
actually in our country that game is considered very old. I'm from Poland too, and there was a time when I tried to find a new copy of Abe's Exoddus (since my old one is in very bad condition) with no result. I also searched through Allegro (it's something like e-bay I think) and there was the same situation. Not to mention Abe's Oddysee....this one is an antic.

I gave up buying games from stores in my country long ago. I buy them from German Amazon.com, which is only "one country away" and has quite a lot of games. And if they don't have it, I search the internet for it. You might try international order, too...
