Sig restriction.
Why do the signatures have to be so damn small? The forum keeps midgetizing my sig and it is almost the size of an avatar for goodness sake. Expand the signature size, you damned nazis or I'll possess Chuck Norris and go round house kick on your asses.
|
The reason it is so small is because if it were larger, it would take most poeple's attention away from the actual posting that is going on.
Also, it helps keep the site running quickly I imagine. With tons of 300 by 700 pixel images floating around, the site could get slowed down quickly. Another approach to having a good resolution sig would be to find the images you want in your sig only smaller and well... you know. And I'm sure you already know this, but the maximum size for an avatar is 100X400. It is actually pretty large when you think about it. Hope this helps. :) |
It helps for me!Thanks!
|
it wouldn't slow the site down, well, maybe for dial up users. If we simply got rid of the upload it from your computer and make the lazy people got to Imageshack.
|
Daxter, if you used your head you'd realize if we took off the restriction people would be using multiple sigs.
Maybe your sig isn't big but they're plenty of stupid people who would no doubt unpload multiple, byte-crunching images out there. Just because imageshack hosts it dosen't mean all the strain comes off it. And you can make your sig 400 width by 100 height, y'know. It dosen't have to be that tiny rectangle. Oh, and it has to be 35 kb or below, also. Lower the quality until it's that size if you want it to be 400x100. Some people.... |
I honestly don't see how allowing the sig pic size to be bigger would allow more than one pic in a sig. Your argument fails, as do you. Once again, just remove the upload your own sig option and it would make the site faster.

My bad. |
The signature and avatar restrictions are in place primarily for two reasons:
Aesthetics Forums with lax signature restrictions are often overrun with multiple images, often huge in size, and in the worst cases, flashing crazy epilepsy-inducing colours. By restricting signatures to smaller dimensions and limiting their behaviour, we are able to put the emphasis back on member discussion. The OWF are about discussions, rather than showing off your decked-out signature, afterall. This is also the reason avatars are restricted. File Size I have no qualms with signatures being hosted on the server, it adds next to no over-head (as a comparison, the OWF have nearly eclipsed 1GB of attachments alone, all of which are hosted on the server), and after it is downloaded once, most browsers will cache the image anyway. The problem is with those members on dial-up, as images and content will download only as fast as their connection permits. And I'd really like to see you get a hold of Chuck Norris, last time I saw him he was doing our bidding over in Off-Topic :p Alcar... |
I don't want Oddworld forums to turn into Quizilla forums...
Have you seen their sigs? It shouldn't take ten seconds to scroll past a person's signature. -.- |
We're pretty lucky. A lot of other forums don't have sigs let alone avatars!
|
I am not
:
Though Alcar has spoken, so I suppose it ain't going to happen now. |
I agree with Arxyrl, big sig will take up all attention and as someone else whos name has slipt my mind said earlier; it takes time to scroll past sigs, if they were bigger it would take more time, and i only have infinite time when i cheat.
Besides, some people may have small sigs so making them bigger would cause them to pixelate and i hate it when pictures pixelate, my sight is bad enough already. The restriction is there for benefit. |

very well done to you for pointing that outbut i dont care about the scrolling, other people do. as i said in the other thread; i would much rather scroll then wait for my computer to lode the rest of the thread.
On the thread where i asked for an option to put more posts on one page i was asking for the option so that i, and people with the same view (or lag), could scroll but those who didn't want to still wouldn't have to. One more thing, there are only 2 ways you could truthfully say that no-one cares. one is to ask everyone and im pretty sure you haven't done that. the other is to imply that you as one person are "no one" So you cannot really say that no one cares unless you are nobody. But this would make you insignificant. are you implying that you are insignificant? |
I hate Alcar for always ruiening my briliant sig ideas... :( Look at my comic! It's tiny! :(
|
Its not that small. i can still read it and i can still burst into laughter whenever i look at it
|
Yeah, ME WANT MY GOOD SIG!
I can't fit this into it; http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3...mare22mhp8.png |
