Kazoo's Sketchbook

Heya! I thought about posting in the 'welcome' section first, but, I might as well introduce myself in the place I'm most likely to end up lurking in- and with something for you to look at...I mean, using a whole topic to just introduce myself would be nice, but, I'm not particularly exciting!
Hrmm...so, I've been a fan of Oddworld Inhabitants for years. Not many, only three, but I'm absolutely in love with the artwork, characters, and creative efforts of the team. Thing is, I only actually got my hands on Abe's Oddysee and Exodus last week. So, while I know a helluva lot about Oddworld, it's only stuff I've picked up from the official site, numerous fansites and various fan-videos...not actual in game experience (I've only just rescued the first 28 Mudokons) So...I guess you could say I have a lot to look forward to! And I'm probably the least clued up kid on the site. But I'm not the sort of insufferable newbie that doesn't know a slig from a slog, at least. c:

Okay! I really love Oddworld critters, and even though I'm terribly inexperienced in the ways of Odd, I couldn't wait to start sketching them. The designs are mostly the conceptual ones, though, because for now they're all I have to go on. I do know they look different in the games, you don't have to tell me! c: I'll try to post a page a day, I use them as warm up exercises before I go on to draw my own things, uhuh.

And part of the cover...it turned out slightly deformed, but better than my fist attempt, which was drawn on my hand. Made my whole arm go stiff!

I, err...look forward to talking with you guys!

Very nice. Great expression and coloring. :)

Arxryl 06-11-2007 06:08 PM

Wow! those are some awesome pictures! I love the coloring! And the cover looks cool.

And welcome! Hope ya' have fun here!

Matriar 06-11-2007 07:13 PM

Exercises? Exercises??! These are, like, perfectly finished pictures!!
No seriously, they're awesome. I love the coloring style you have and the expressions of the grubbs which you drew pretty exact. They look like the grubbs from the game, I can't see any difference or mistakes you did. :D

Great job!

ziggy 06-11-2007 08:31 PM

Hey Kazoo! nice name :)

Those are really good drawings too. The coloring is very expertise. Why is everone at Oddworld forums a gosh dang professional artist? Seriously, I've seen other forums' fan art before and they suck compared to stuff here.

Creepy Doc 06-11-2007 10:34 PM

Excellent artworks here! :)

Kazoo 06-12-2007 08:36 AM

Thanks, Used, Arxryl and Creepy Doc!
@Stranger's Maid: I do? That's nice to hear! And thanks!
@Ziggy: Heheh, well, names with a 'z' in them are hardc0re, right, Ziggy? cx Thanks! Hmm...maybe it's 'cause the Oddworld Forums gang is a little more obsessed?

Ah, the less I know about what I'm drawing, the sketchier it turns out, and considering how little I know about Stranger, I'm surprised I got past a squiggle. I'm still not sure what colours he's made up of, since OI are so fond of that lovely dramatic and colourful lighting they do. I won't really be able to get him down properly until I've played the game and spent a few weeks watching him do what he does, y'know. He's freakin' adorable!

And, I tried sketching Stranger's Maid's character, Jennadelle, 'cause I enjoyed her fic. c:

Tomorrow I should probably draw something I actually have experience with...like Sligs!

Arxryl 06-12-2007 08:55 AM

Wow! Very nice. I enjoy Jenadelle's expression.

Venks 06-12-2007 08:55 AM

Wow better grammar then most people here(way better then me), beautiful art, and purposeful posts.

I think... I... I... love you.

Seriously though you should get the Best New Comer award.
Is there any chance you could draw something for me? You don't have to if you don't want to, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Could you draw a picture of a Slig on a cliff looking up at Abe's moon?
If you do this for me I will love you forever.

Kazoo 06-12-2007 09:33 AM

Thanks Arxryl! I think...she looks a little like she's about to go cross eyed, heheh.

Ah, Venks, that's all very well but, if you want to take me home you'd better be providing caffeine and have a fair amount of Sci-Fi in your video library!
Ahem. Hey, sure I could! Would there be anything special about the Slig, or does it pretty much follow regular Slig design (pants and all)? And, while we're talking about Sligs, I read your fic before I signed up, and I do love Ugai. c:

My sketchbook has 27 pages, so if you guys wanna request something or hook me up with your fan-characters, feel free!

Zozo the Zrilufet 06-12-2007 09:39 AM

:wow:All so good and shiny, the grubb picture looks good for a Christmas card:D.

Awesome pictures!! Oh my god, you drew Jennadelle perfectly! :D :D :D

Thank you for enjoying my fiction too!

Kazoo 06-13-2007 11:43 AM

Thanks Zozo! Actual Oddworld Christmas cards would be so awesome...I'd probably get possessive and keep them all, though. I wish there was more merchandise!

@Stranger's Maid: Ah, I'm glad you like it! And no problem!

Hmm, Venks...I had a quick go at sketching Ugai (I'll just go ahead and assume that's who I'm drawing c: ) buuut, my pad was too small to fit it all on. And I think I should probably unclench his fist, could be seen as an angry gesture. Anyway! That's just an idea. If I'm gonna be painting I just want to make sure it's at an angle you like and I haven't drawn a deformed slig, heh. I could probably dig out some larger paper and redraw it with some legs and show the cliff he's standing on. Just, err...gimme some clues and don't leave me hanging! C:

Veeery rough sketch.

Marvak 06-14-2007 01:27 AM

OLY SHIZ DUDE SRLSY

You're gonna give me a run for my moolah. And that's saying something. *goes to study up on artwork* Haha anyway... I love the colouring medium you use, watercolour is it? I've never been fond of using watercolour of drawings myself, never quite got the hang of it, but you seem to have perfected it quite nicely! :D And Jennadelle looks rather cute XD
I looks forward to seeing more!

Matriar 06-14-2007 10:23 AM

Cool. Love your drawing style with this shading technique like this. You know, these many lines and stuff. :)

Looks more like colored pencil to me. :fuzconf: I don't know.

Kazoo?

Zozo the Zrilufet 06-14-2007 10:38 AM

:)Nice pictures....Marvak, where did you get that quote from me?!..... I blame Patrick, its his fault, he posted that happystick picture!

Kazoo 06-16-2007 04:31 PM

Haha, hey Marvak! Thanks! Yup, watercolour. I have GIMP on my computer but I never got a handle on digital colouring. I see it works for you, though!
Thanks Zozo and Strangers Maid. Well...I use coloured pencil and watercolour in equal measures and often together, but those are watercolour. I'll post some coloured pencil stuff sometime! c:
Umm...Still just trying to get familiar with the species so I can start drawing them without reference. The Intern's face is a bit short and narrow, I think. Y'know, when people see me draw Sligs they think they're meant to be fleas. c:

Arxryl 06-16-2007 06:06 PM

Awesome! "Rivalry" should be the title of this one. You capture expressions very well!!!

Marvak 06-16-2007 07:05 PM

Omg! Intern! *loves you forever* He looks so cute...
*ahem* and yeah, I tend to try and be alone when 'm drawing Oddworld characters, so as not to get unwanted comments from my peers, lol. Though how someone can confuse a Slig for a flea is quite beyond me.

Matriar 06-16-2007 10:46 PM

Hehe, must be difficult to fold one's arms when they are so big. :]
You're right concerning the intern's head though I think, you'll learn from every mistake you do and your future drawings will become better and better! :)

Creepy Doc 06-18-2007 10:45 AM

Very nice work! :)

Ariona 07-02-2007 08:58 AM

:cheer:Wow!! I like your pictures very much, Kazoo. Especially the first one and the second one showing Stranger. The coloring of these pictures is perfect. Keep it up! I can't see any mistakes in them. I hope to see more.

Hulaabeo 07-24-2007 05:57 PM

.............................ITS SO DAMN AWESOME!!!

Sorry, But that is is such wonderful art! I didn't make any fanfics but it wouldn't hurt to ask but can you draw Prof.E.Gadd running from slogs? (Hes from Super Mario games google it if you need to:goof:)

skillyaslig 07-24-2007 09:41 PM

Great work! I love them!! Woot woot!!!

Reiji Neko Mitsukai 07-25-2007 06:35 AM

What everyone's saying about your artwork? Understatements. I mean... GUH. LOOK AT THEM. They are BEYOND awesome.

I feel horribly inadequate now. Q.Q

Alf Shall Rise 07-25-2007 08:06 AM

Nicely drawn, shading and texturing is perfect. Yet another experienced artist! :D

Matriar 07-25-2007 11:10 AM

And the award for Best Artist 2007 goes tooooooo...

Laser 07-26-2007 03:58 AM

They are some really good piccys! One thing. I think those piccys of stranger are a bit too...well... happy.
if they were a bit more gritty looking they'd be perfect but i'm picking holes :)
