What are your views on abortion?
Nanny nanny boo boo.

I don't push my beliefs into the public realm. I'm against it, but I'm not all "ABORTION IS EVIL RAWR!!" about it.
|
I believe if the baby was the result of rape, if the mother is at risk of dying after giving birth, or if the baby's going to be born with a handicap like downs syndrome, then I think it's acceptable.
|
I think abortion is an acceptable form of birth control.
|
We need less babies and more sexual freedom.
For. |
I think it's 100% acceptable. If the mother doesn't want the child, then it's her choice to get rid of it. It's a very cruel procedure, but maybe in the near future someone could find a way to transfer babies from womb to womb safely so another mother can give birth instead of the baby dying.
|
I think that abortion is fine if the mother doesn't want the child, before the baby is almost ready to live outside the womb, but after that, the action turns to taking a human life, and should be illegal (In my opinion).
|
I don't like abortion. Who does? In a perfect world, we wouldn't need it. But this is not a perfect world, therefore there are no perfect solutions to it's problems.
I support the mother's right to choose to abort her pregnancy. I am under no allusions that the creature inside her is human from start to finish, what i do contest is that a bundle of barely differentiated cells is a person. Sure, a zygote, given the right environment and then left to its own devices can become a person if nothing goes wrong in the meantime, but we can create cells for many purposes in the lab of which the same could be said. We can implant treated adult stem cells into animal embryos, because the chemical environment of the embryo causes them to become embryological stem cells that can be used for research (this was the whole "chimera" controversy a few month back, only necessary because scientists were not allowed to use human embryos). The development of a zygote to a human child, I believe, is a gradual one, there is no definite point at which it stops being one and starts being another. Unfortunately such subtleties are beyond most people, certainly beyond the comprehension of a law. So any defined "cut-off point" as the limiting age for abortions is arbitrary, like the point where greenish-yellow becomes yellowish-green. But I'm going to go with the first trimester. If you haven't decided by then if you want the baby or not, then what the hell were you doing making the choice to have unprotected sex? |

On topic, I think that abortion is unacceptable. That is a human being they are killing, and I don't believe that they have the right to do that. But, this is how things are. One man such as myself cannot change the world. |
:pI don't support abortion, but if the mother and baby are gonna die or something like that, then fine.

Not necessarily. They are not a burden on society, don't get that into your head. I know about retarded people, not because I'm a doctor, because I have a cousin who is retarded. It depends what level of mental retardation they are stuck with, as it can come as mild, moderate and severe. Perhaps those with severe mental retardation need a lot of support, but the majority are fine. Don't ever say that they are a burden on society again.

I think its ok, but the mother should of really thought it through before hand.
|
No abortion debate? AS IF. This place was founded on political threads, particularily sexuality, gender, and reproductive clashes. As far as I'm concerned this place is long overdue.

Should be fully legal.
Less babies = good. |
I think abortion is fine, not because there will be less babies, but because if the mother is not ready to have a kid and will treat him/bad she should get an abortion and have one when she's ready. A kid shouldn't be born if the parents aren't ready or living the lifestyle that will give the baby a bad life, because they don't have enough money or not established enough.

EDIT: Also, autism isn't a human variation like gayness. It's an aberrant disorder of the brain. Science sez so. |
You really have way too much time on your hands, don't you Patrick?
I completely support abortion. |
Wait a minute! As a libertarian, wouldn't you object to the government funding abortions?
And yes, I have far too much time creating enormous polls. |
Hm... I am against abortion. The only case I'd say it even scratches the surface of "okay" is if the baby won't survive anything outside of five seconds of being out of the womb, other than that (which is still pushing my opinion very far), if you don't want the baby, put him/her up for adoption... Nuff said.
|
I think its the mothers choice...BUT if the baby will be retarded or whatnot it shouldnt be allowed to live, as its cruel to the child.
|
I support abortion, for two main reasons.
1. Stem cells are the potential cure of hundreds of diseases, such as blindness or paralyzation. I will admit Christopher Reed's problem hugely influenced me into this stance. 2. If the mother decides to get rid of the baby, there should be no obstacle. It's her child, and **** off anyone who wants to get in her face for it, spouting half-assed justifications like the baby is a person too. Abortion should not be a problem. Those dumbass Christians are just getting in the way for no reason. The child does not belong to them, it belongs to the parents. They should have no reason to stop them from having an abortion. As long as abortion is voluntary by the mother and/or father, it's fine in my book. |
The thing here, is that the aborted is not actually alive at that point, they normally have no brain-cells yet. They aren't people until they can think and breathe and do stuff, which is obvious enough, I think.

:pQFT...... Wait, I don't get it...Oh well. At least it has a culture. :

This is looking awfully like a debate to me... Read the OP.
|
If the woman is raped or if the child is endangering the life of the mother I'm okay with it. I just can't get behind awarding stupidity with the death of a child. The child can be adopted.
