What political affiliation do you self identify with?

Just a quick question.

I personally feel I am outside most boundaries. What do you call a person who;
Favours the complete banning of abortion, but views gay marriage as a human right?
Opposes "climate change" initiatives, but favours parenting licenses?
Supports the War on "Terror", but opposes the War in Iraq?
Believes freedom of speech is an absolute right as long as it is not inciting violence, but opposes the government funding of "the arts"?
Believes in the complete right of a person to defend themselves in the home, including the shooting and evisceration of thieves?
Believes in the genocide of pedophiles, but thinks all "ex-gay" institutions should be prosecuted for fraudalent money laundering?
Believes in separation of church and state, including the prohibition of teaching any theory OTHER than evolution in the classroom unless it is scientifically verified, but opposes adding terms like "BCE" and "CE" into textbooks, and other such nonsense?
Opposes racial profiling, but supports religious profiling?
Has neotraditionalist Catholic views?

Well you can be affiliated with a certain political ideal but with your own opinions on things... I would call you... *makes up label on the spot* "Post-conservative".

I like to stay steadfastly centric when it comes to British politics (though it seems all major parties these days are on the left), but in reference to American ordeals, and come one, that's all we ever talk about, I'm quite left-wing. Mostly out of recoil and horror at Republicans and the religious right than an actual sense of affiliation with the Demos.

Facist.

...

snuzi 05-16-2007 08:46 PM

I'm apolitical.

6-finger-fred 05-17-2007 04:00 AM

Above any of the parties. They are all too extreme.

SeaRex 05-17-2007 08:41 AM

Moderate? Independent?

Laser 05-17-2007 09:07 AM

i have no idea wha this is all on about.
what does a supporter of the raving looney party count as?

Zozo the Zrilufet 05-17-2007 09:11 AM

....Ironic? I find some of the things ironic. I'm against abortion, but if someone wants to go ahead and have one, fine, I won't stop them.

Words of wisdom :)

I'm pretty much the same way

Bullet Magnet 05-17-2007 01:23 PM

Well I don't think anyone actually supports abortion, just the right to choose to have one.

Arxryl 05-17-2007 01:27 PM

Hm... I suppose that I'm apolitical.

A retard. This is even more contradicting then the bible.

There is not such thing as a political stand point. All you have are your own opinions and if you happen to agree with a few dozen other people then go you. Saying 'I'm this and this and bla' is stupid. Instead just say what you stand for ffs. Go abortions! Go 16th century punishments! Go shooting someone in the head if he ****s up! Go standing up for what you believe in! **** the government. Yeah!

What?

Eugenicists would (like Margaret Sanger). Only, they would want abortions only on non Aryan, non straight, non religious babies.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of people on this planet who will unthinkingly support a party, no matter what that party does.
Example:
Me: But why do you support Bush?
American: Because I'm Republican.

Which is a kinda odd thing. Australians wouldn't really say that sort of thing - rather a good proportion of Liberal party members think John Howard (the Prime Minister) is a loathesome, lieing schmuck who happens to be a good economist.

As for my own political views, they've never aligned with one particular party. I suppose they'd lie on the centre-left on the landscape but I tend to decide on an election-by-election basis. In particular, I don't look at party's policies (which only advertise what they'll be doing in the first year in office) but the politicians and see if they're better than the normal standard we get.

That said, none of the parties I've voted for (in state or federal level) since I turned 18 have ever won so I'm clearly a terrible read of community sentiment.

Havoc 05-18-2007 03:24 AM

Exactly the same here which is why I hate politics but even more: the people voting. We have a party here called the CDA, Christian Democratic... something. And all the christians around here are voting on those twats just because they are christian!! People need to be shot!

...What? I'm Christian and I don't vote for anything...:PI'm not of voting age anyway...I forget my point.

I have living evidence of left wing and right wing mindlessness;
Left wing
democraticunderground.com
dailykos.com
Mutual Friend
Right wing
freerepublic.com
www.foxnews.com
teensforchrist.org

Read em and weep. Also, a Christian party is a blatant urination on seperation of church and state (though I don't know whether that exists in your country)

Havoc 05-18-2007 05:17 PM

It's the very first rule in the law book, but they are working on getting rid of it thank god... [/sarcasm]

Bullet Magnet 05-18-2007 07:46 PM

In Britain our head of state is also the head of England's very own church, and Christianity is the state religion. That said, we are largely secular and mostly put down "Christianity" as our religion in the census because we feel we're supposed to (but if pushed, will probably say "Jedi").

It's hilarious. The US is the other way around.

Patrick Vykkers 05-18-2007 10:34 PM

What the hell? Why should you put Christianity on your religion if your not Christian? There is a Nonreligious option, y'know.

Bullet Magnet 05-19-2007 08:26 AM

It seems that visiting church once or twice a year for whatever reason constitutes religion.

Though over here, Christianity is the nonreligious option.
