Running AO/AE on Linux?
I was jsut wondering if it's possible to run Abe's Oddysee/Abe's Exoddus
on Linux, particulary the Ubuntu system. Thanks in advance! |
Interesting question! I use Ubuntu alongside Windows, but I haven’t tried installing AO or AE on it yet. I can’t see anything helpful after a very rushed Google search, either.
Let’s solve this mystery. :D |

Go to the downloads section, then select the Linux system you are operating on. Follow the setup instructions and you will soon have exe's running on your computer! I'm about to try this with the Abe's Oddysee demo. Took a little bit to figure out that I had to right click on the .exe and select open with in order to run it. EDIT: When i ran the abeodd.exe program, I had to extract stuff into a file, so I told it to extract it to my Desktop. For some reason it didn't seem to work so I'm going to try to make a folder for it and see if that works. EDIT (Again...): When I had it extract the program crap into the file, it stated that it was working. But when I opened up the file, I got nothing. I clicked on show hidden files and still got nothing, Anybody have a possible solution to this? |
Wine could possibly work but it can't be depended on because it's not a full implementation of the Windows libraries. I'd give it a try but don't be surprised if it crashes.

Try linux program called Wine, maybe it will work, but Im not sure...

But the problem is that I can't get the .exe that starts the game, as you get
that when you unzip the files, or at least I think that. |
Hi all!
The other day I was wondering the same thing. So I checked Wine's compatibility database, downloaded the demo, and started playing. What you need to be looking at is: AO, AE. And here's how to do it (for the demos at least, the full games should follow a similar process):
The -interline option is necessary for AO because its videos go funky without it. I'm not sure if it's needed for AE, but I don't feel like restarting X right now (if you kill it you get stuck with a low resolution). You can thank Wil for alerting me to this thread's existence. |
