wish list for oddworld abe fans
i wish before owi closed down for good i think thay shoud have gave us a map maker and a oddworld abe game to play it on. now that would have made us making lots of levels lots of times. who thinks that whoud have been nice???
It would have been much celebrated if it were done right, but I don’t know for certain why OWI would want to do it. They want to tell stories through games, not provide a customization service.
A map maker would have been a great idea. But the custom levels people make won't have the same feel as the original Oddworld, and the noobs who don't even like Oddworld will download it and make stupid crappy levels.
yes that would be crud. but if there was one it shoud have been for the pepole who had oddworld ao and ae. thay whoud have been the only ones with the data on them.
Boo! I dont want OWI to shut down!
Well, I think map editor will be good and it will make oddworld games more "alive". Look for example to Fallout - 10 years old game and still has milions of fans, because there are many editors, so you can create absolutely new game running on Fallout engine. Everyone is waiting for new big modifications...
A level editor would be a nice idea. Off course, if they could be done with 2 players at same time, that would be better. Some extra programming could, in theory, make it possible. Fighting to beat each other to possess a Scrab or summat. That would be pretty fun. IF ONLY.
It would be like Halo CE, other mods could be put in, like Sligs jumping or going through doors, maybe. |
Scripts would probably be implemented, and you could make your own, which would majorly change gameplay. Like a Scrab going through a doorway script or something. It would work very well.
No. No. A map-maker for one of the 3D games.
no for all of the oddworld abe games.
For all ow games, because I cant play 3d ow games :D
yes all of them.
I would love one for Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus although it looks pretty tough to make a level for any oddworld game. If I ever got a level editor for Oddysee, I would probably make one hell of a hard game (even though the game itself is relatively hard) out of it. Just place over 5 scrabs on one screen but if I could I would disable the script for them to have a scrab fight with each other, then all 5 of them would try to kill me!
But I don't think a level editor would be likely to be made...but if they did...! |
To get anything near as good as the originals you'd have to render out new backgrounds and have access to the prophouses. This requires Photoshop and several 3D programs.
For new actions like sligs and scrabs using doors you'd need to make new sprite frames that gel with the originals, and alter the code to enable it. All this originally took OWI... three years? |
