Those are paramites... this screen was probably taken from an early version of AO as this shot is coming from OWI themself.

mathew9r 04-22-2007 03:47 AM

thanks but what doses owi mean.:fuzconf: :fuzconf: :fuzconf: :fuzconf:

Matthew Exodst 04-22-2007 04:03 AM

Oddworld Inhabitants, most likely?

mathew9r 04-22-2007 04:09 AM

great but why did owi put thoses there when you go there its the what are thay called know.:fuzconf: :fuzconf: :fuzconf: :fuzconf:

What? That made no sense.

This has been discussed before. Screenies for game covers tend to be taken during game making, so what you see may not be a final part of the game. Coding of Scrabs and Paramites conflicts, or is to complex for the game to handle both in the same area, so either only one or the other was possible to use.
They obviously went for Scrabs instead.

If you're talking about the creatures that the arrows are pointing to, as Xav said, they're paramites. It seems like they were originally meant to be included in the stockyard escape but were taken out in the final version.

Paramites...why scrabs? They should put both inside...0.o I dont know...it dosnt looks so fake ...

mathew9r 04-22-2007 04:25 AM

yes your right thay shoud have put them both in.

Matthew Exodst 04-22-2007 04:41 AM

Don't see why. Was their decision in the first place though.

mathew9r 04-22-2007 05:51 AM

dont know???

Xavier 04-22-2007 06:00 AM

Mathew you claim to live in the UK, so I think we can expect you to speak understandable english. If you communicate on the internet I assume you would like people to actually understand what point you are trying to make or understand what your questions are.

It isn't fake. It's from an early version of AO. Paramites and Scrabs could never be used in the same level as eachother. They took that much memory up, and if the memory was piled up onto a level, it would freeze and lock-up. So they had to use them in different levels. And mathew, don't you even know what a Paramite is? Or OWI? You really need to get to know Oddworld.

To the best of my knowledge, that's just a fan theory. We don't actually know why OWI chose to take the paramites out of the stockyards. My personal opinion is that they wanted to spread out the introduction of the two wildlife species and not show them both in the one level.

OddjobAbe 04-22-2007 08:24 AM

As others have said, that's probably just a prototype screenshot.
I read that if the Scrabs and Paramites were on one screen together, the game would crash, but I never thought it impossible for them to be in one level together. I think Nate's probably right.

I remember a quote from OWI that said quite plainly that if a Scrab and a Paramite were to meet in Abe’s Oddysee or Abe’s Exoddus, the game would crash. They used this to compare with Munch’s Oddysee, proclaiming how the upcoming game would feature whole herds of Scrabs and Paramites interacting.

But I can’t find the quote back.

I stand corrected then.

*is glad that he hedged his previous statement*
