Abe's Exoddus PC Tech help needed...
For some reason my (illegal) version of AE won't work.
It's weird, when I open it up, the screen goes black. After about 8-10 secs of waiting, I hear Abe say "Hello!" like he should do. Also, if I press enter a couple of times, and press the walk arrows, I can hear him walk, jump etc. In short, I have no picture but no video...any help ideas would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I have files missing or something...I dunno. BTW, my PC runs on XP if that helps. |
Try getting a legal copy. Illegal copies a) sometimes are a bit dogdy and missing files and b) against the rules of this forum.
Once you have a legal copy, you can do a search for winXP issues to see the problems other people have been having. |
Once you get a legal copy, it'll probably work. And, you'll actually feel like you have an Oddworld item in your possession, not a copy.
|
Yeah. The second Oddworld Game I bought was Abe's Oddysee, but I got it cheap from a friend who copied and reconfigured the files, thus making it illegal. The game lagged, but if I pressed 1, Abe'd flatulate instead of saying "Hello".
Then, I bought a retail copy (real copy, legal copy) for the Playstation. It worked perfectly. So yeah, I would suggest trying to find a real copy of Exoddus (you still can, I bought a used copy in GameStation for my cousin), reconfiguring the files, or get a copy that could have complete files. The most likely solution is to buy a legal copy. There's plenty of Region1 versions on eBay (American version), and I think I've seen a few region2 versions on Amazon (European version). |

Perhaps there was an error in reding the data coding, causing Abe to flatulate instead of greet.

I'm getting sad with theese unworking movies!

Firstly, please don't double post - it is considered as spam. I stopped double potsing a while ago.
Secondly, it's probably one of two reasons: a) some files are missing, or b) there's an error in coding or reading the codes. There's many problems with illegal copies. They're more trouble than they're worth. Just fork out for the retail copies. |
Yup. Many illegal copies remove the movies to reduce the download size.
|
No, AE comes on 2 CDs. (And I have both CDs legally :))
CD1 is the installer, which also asks you if you want to install Level Files. (so the game can run without CD2) CD2 is the movies and the levels. (Levels are included in CD1 too) You need CD2 to view the movies and play the game if you didn't install Level Files. |
Hold on, you said that your copy was an illegal copy.
