Oddworld Adventures

What did you think of Oddworld Adventures 1 and 2? I thought that the graphics were crap, but they were fun to play. Although, I couldn't talk to a Mudokon without accidentally hitting him.
Also, these games helped complete my odd collection of games: They were the only ones I didn't have, but I downloaded them from a ROM providal site. I won't share details about the site, as it is in fact piracy.

You're right that the graphics were crap, but it's Oddworld! If you're a true fan, you wouldn't care what the graphics looked like. Not to bust your stones or anything, but that's just how I feel.

OddjobAbe 03-05-2007 12:41 PM

You're right, there. I agree with you. I personally don't care what the graphics are like at all. If it's got Oddworld on it, I'm the first to get it. I hope. It wa a metaphor. Don't take that literally. I doubt you would. I'm falling into my bad habit of writing brief again.

In my honest opinion, the games weren't really necessary. If you think about it, they don't contribute to the storyline as they are pretty much the same thing from the first 2 games all over again, except shorter. But, seeing as how sucessful OWI had been with the Playstation games, I can understand why the deemed it necessary to milk the games for some more cash. On a side-note, if you're a real Oddworld junkie (I guess we all are, considering we're here, heh), it might be a good thing to bring your Gameboy along with the games if you're travelling etc.

I tryed the out and hated them. I never finished any of them.
Sorry but good graphics, nice game play, original story lines and good music matters to me :p

Jordan 03-05-2007 01:49 PM

I like Oddworld Adventures 2, I completed it, but I found it pretty hard.
I admit, the graphics ARE bad, but it's GBC, and it can't really be helped.
I enjoyed it when I was playing it in the car.

Alf Shall Rise 03-05-2007 04:32 PM

I liked them. Even though they're lost now, I still liked them a lot!

Wil 03-05-2007 04:35 PM

I could hardly care less for them. I don’t care if they’re called Oddworld and take place on Oddworld, they’re simply not quality products. Their only redeeming quality (portable Oddworld) is now approaching meaningless with ports of the games proper to the PSP.

Cullen Heath 03-05-2007 04:36 PM

Even though they were fun, I also felt that they were unnecesarry.
I beat them both. They're actually really hard, but the ending for the first one is really cool.

Alf Shall Rise 03-05-2007 04:44 PM

Hmm even though I do love every Oddworld game, I have to agree, the graphics were poor and it kinda lagged a little bit.

ziggy 03-05-2007 09:01 PM

In my opinion you don't have to be a "real" oddworld fan to play those games. They don't interest me and I don't consider them part of the series anyway. I never bothered to play them at all, because I heared they were crap anyway.

Xavier 03-05-2007 11:06 PM

Heh, they weren't made by OWI themself, another company made the port.
I just can't waste my time to try to beat them anyway

Killy 03-06-2007 03:37 AM

Yes, they were made by GT Interactive, but they had to license it first, so I can see that OWI made a few bucks on selling them a licence. In any case, does anyone think that OWI could have made the games better, had they developed them?

Nate 03-06-2007 04:46 AM

Yes, the gameboy games would have been better but OWI's other games would have been sacrificed in turn. Either they would have had to hire more people (bad for team dynamics) or the schedules would have had to been pushed back.

I hear you there about the games not being necessary, but think about it. Maybe OWI wanted to have a game for every system? I mean, everything that's been said here is perfectly true. Bad graphics, poor music, repeated storylines, but OWI made it possible for OW on the go!

If OWI wanted to release an Oddworld game for every console, they wouldn't
have cancelled Stranger's Wrath for the Playstation 2 and they most certainly would not have invested into licensing some cheap Game Boy games that nobody will come to appreciate anyway, because it wasn't developed by them and it doesn't live up to the Oddworld standards.

The way I see it, they wanted to make some more money, and that's fair, but they should have developed it themselves, which brings us to what nate said and I totally agree with him - it would have been a bad move by them to work on these games, so of course they let GT Interactive develop the games instead. They made a little profit by sharing with GT but they were still able to work on their major projects - which were quite successful. :) You can't blame them, but like I said, only reason to play these games is if you're a total Oddworld junkie and you're out travelling and don't feel like dragging your 20lbs Xbox around with you.

Indeed, the GB games can be good for journeys, but after a short while, they tend to get pretty boring. I'd love to play an Xbox in the car, is it actually possible?

It is, a friend of mine had an Xbox built in near the dashboard when he was customising his car. Needless to say, that car was stolen rather quick.

I bought adventures 1 on ebay and sold it on ebay. although It was a cute "lil" oddworld game the graphics and gameplay enoyed me.

@ Jordan: all the rich kids at skool parents have mercades with tvs and earphones. you might be able to hooke Xbook up to them.
