Wikipedia Ban
It's also been banned from my school for the same reason. I never used it as a main source in my reasearch, but rather just as source to confirm information, and things like that, but Wikipedia can still be pretty cool for small research and such. I think as long as people don't change it all of the time, and put pointless things- like for example, I came across an article that someone had edited putting 'salty nads' in every sentence- it can be an awesome site.
I never really used it much, but I know some of you do, so what are your thoughts? How many of you use Wikipedia? Have your schools banned it, as well? |
I usually use it for research purposes, although I don't know if it has been banned in my school. The fact that schools are banning it is completely retarded. I mean, sure, there are some "questionable" articles on it, but it is an educational site.
|
I agree, it's daft that it's been banned from schools, but let's not go as far as 'retarded'. I have a cousin called Holly who has down syndrome, and even a person with a mental disabilaty wouldn't ban Wikipedia from schools. I don't think that the people who banned it have mental problems, I think they're just foolish gits. I'm sorry if I bored you there.

This is something that has been said to me repeatedly in university by lecturers who talk about being handed assignments with blatantly incorrect information and wikipedia as the only reference. Even the wikipedia site tells you that the information may be questionable. If you rely on wikipedia providing reliable information, you're an idiot.
The only way to use wikipedia for anything important, is to get an overview of the information then look at the references given. That way you can have a reliable source whilst cutting down your information-trawling. |

Wow, I never thought someone wouldn't know that the word "retarded" could be used in a different context. That's seriously surprising. |
I use Wikipedia quite a lot when I need some info. My school hasn't gone far enough to banning it, but they will soon enough...
|
I just checked, and apparently my school has not gone as far as banning Wikipedia. Although, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did. They've banned every other good website out there.

Wikipedia Lies FTW |
Wikipedia never lies. Only Jews lie. And they aren't allowed on Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is just an encyclopedia on the wiki format.
...hence the name. It's a starting point for your research, if you choose to use it. The references are there for a reason. |
My school hasn't banned Wikipedia, prolly cuz they never heard of it (yes, they're THAT dumb.) I only use for...useless things, not for school. If it's for school I take the old way, and actually read BOOKS.
Reading books is probably the only "un" lazy thing I do. |
My school havent banned wikipedia, Actually some teachers are promoting it.
So i guess nothing to worry here, I use it alot :) |
My shool hasnt bann it yet, but theres probaly certain articals they have.
|
My school has indeed banned it. Many people ubuse the site (over using, cut & pasting info without citing it, etc.) and that's probably why they banned it. I don't need it much, as the teachers usually give us helpful places to look for info.

Damn Jews.
|
Nope, my school hasn't banned it. I use it, along with some other sites, for all my research papers. Hasn't wronged me yet. Though, I'll know if something sounds wrong. IE, " Abe Lincoln licked his balls every night, and then made torture chambers to torture Jews while he licked his balls."

nope my school hasn't banned it...yet...
