It's here... The cure for AIDS

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...360816,00.html

:

"After seven long years of arduous work, Iranian scientists here on Saturday introduced a herbal medicine which cures Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)," Fars reported.

"The drug named 'IMOD' is completely effective and safe with no proven side effects," Iran's Minister of Health Kamran Bagheri Lankarani claimed during a ceremony.
I'm skeptic about this actually being true, but if it is then it would change the world as we know it not to mention the humor value of Iran being the one to discover this :).

Mojo 02-05-2007 07:37 AM

If this is true, it would be a wonderful discovery. Even though it's found by Iranians.

used:) 02-05-2007 08:46 AM

Sweet. Let's hope they're not faking it to steer delay Bush's invasion.

looney-bin 02-05-2007 09:20 AM

I'm having my doults about this.

snuzi 02-05-2007 10:24 AM

Woah. If what they say is true, then that's a remarkable discovery that will truly reshape our world. Although, I too have my doubts regarding the matter.

Racist.

But I'm 100% this isn't true.

Mojo 02-05-2007 12:12 PM

What I meant was, even though it's made by people who claim to be a nuclear power.

Killy 02-05-2007 12:21 PM

And some people say the US never even landed on the moon.

It'd be wise to wait and see what it turns out to be and try not to discard or gullibly accept everything you hear.

Besides, did you ever stop to ask why there are no major headlines about this on any of the far more prominent media websites?

used:) 02-05-2007 12:29 PM

Or on news channels CNN or NBC Headlines for that matter.

Havoc 02-05-2007 12:31 PM

Yea I wondered the same thing. Prolly because they are as skeptical as we are?

Heh, I was actually referring to those, but anyway, yeah.

Dude. A cure for AIDS, one of the most malevolent diseases on the planet right now. They would at least stick it out there.

Havoc 02-05-2007 01:33 PM

Someone must be playing a very sick joke on the world. Either that or god just woke up from his 2000 year long nap...

CURE FOR CANCER!

http://www.newscientist.com/article/...t-cancers.html

Arxryl 02-05-2007 01:49 PM

Holy cow...
What's next within a five minute time span. Flying cars? Breathable water? A cure for stupidity?

Now I'm super skeptical.

Havoc 02-05-2007 02:23 PM

Next they are gonna tell me Bush is kicked out of office. If that happens then I will convert to Christianity in an instant because then there must be a god XD

Nate 02-05-2007 02:45 PM

No, convert to Buddhism as there must be Karma...

But I'm surprised they didn't try to claim that their nuclear technology was key to developing this cure. That would have made people stop and think.

Bullet Magnet 02-05-2007 03:01 PM

That cancer cure... it's doing badly. A wonder cure drug that is super-cheap to produce. Which is why no pharmaceuticals want to make it.

Rich 02-05-2007 03:12 PM

Gene therapy is the way forwards. I love the way it annoys the righteous.

I'd settle for a herbal cure though.

Facsimile 02-05-2007 04:55 PM

Every few months these 'Cure for one of the world's largest health problems' comes about and you never hear any more about them. I don't buy it.

Majic 02-06-2007 06:45 AM

My government professor brought up this during some class discussionish stuff over current events. And he pointed out the exact same thing: why isn't this being posted on major news networks? A load of bologna, I'm sure. Probably just some political tactic for whatever the hell them crazy Iranians are trying to accomplish these days.

Actually:

Ever seen The Abyss? The part where the rat is submerged is totally real :D.

Arxryl 02-06-2007 04:04 PM

Okay, you got me there. :)

And yes I have seen the abyss, but not in a really, really long time... I think.

Perhaps I should have switched it to, "...Oceans made of beer?..."

Nemo 02-06-2007 04:39 PM

Well actually, *pulls news link up to show theres a beer ocean*
Sorry, we're still working on that one.

Oh, and is there an actual video of the rat breathing the water?

Slaveless 02-06-2007 05:29 PM

I don't know whether to believe it or not. My mom had told me that on the news, there was something about this amazing healing thing that happened with this herb. She didn't find out what it was, but maybe there is a connection?

And the cancer thing, that was made before the AIDS article was made. It isn't something that just happens. But I feel that the AIDS article may be stretching the truth, or making a lie at this matter.

What I don't understand is how you can have a cure for a viral disease? Viruses can't be killed through medince when infected. Only vaccines can do that.

Psst. Flying cars have already been invented. They're called helicopters and small planes. Want a none smarty pants answer? Here; they are around, just can't be sold yet.

Bullet Magnet 02-06-2007 07:04 PM

You forget the Skycar...

moxco 02-06-2007 11:53 PM

I saw the cancer treatment on the news but not the AIDS????

Bullet Magnet 02-07-2007 08:07 PM

No one is taking it seriously. Only Iranian channels and Fox seem to have reported it.

Havoc 02-08-2007 02:44 AM

Fox? Well whatever they said must be true then... [/sarcasm] :p

Geez. Where have I been the last 14 years... ;)

Okay here, let me find something that is really hard to do, and hasn't come out yet...

A next gen console from sony that costs less than $200? A movie that everyone can agree is awesome? (when I say everyone, I mean everyone you could possibly think of...) the perfect computer that will never be outdated?

Although, I still think that "the cure for stupidity" is still far off...

Nemo 02-08-2007 02:21 PM

Lazor surgery will be fixing stupidity as soon as they can find the part of the brain that controls the IQ percentage.
