Heroes V
Anyone got Heroes V? I have III and IV, but I barely play IV anymore, and Heroes V seems much more like III anyway. The graphics are absolutely awesome, especially if you compare it to III, there's so much detail and if you turn it on 'Best Quality' the game doesn't slow down at all...Those are all good things, but I though that the bad thing was, while done well, there wasn't enough stuff in there...only 6 towns, about 20 or so maps, only like 6-10 heroes for every town, and I keep finding the same artifacts over and over again.
And how 'bout a discussion for good ole III, I still play it, my favourite town in III is Castle and in V, I like Inferno. I don't like the way they did Castle in V, well, everything is pretty much OK except for the angels...I think the production designer pretty much fucked it on the angels, they don't even look like angels, they look like floating winged blond anime playboys with a humongous sword. So, yeah, in V my favourite is Inferno. (I know that not many people on this forum play Heroes) EDIT: If there's miraculously a thread on this that I didn't see, whilst looking back on the subforum at 45 days...I'm scared of making threads now :fuzconf: |
I was always fond of Necropolis. I mean, you can resurrect dead units into skeletons! I really gotta start playing it again...
|
Didn't expect to see a Heroes fan around here. I have Heroes III and I love it, great music, atmosphere and definitely better than any of the other games in the series.
Heroes V was good, it brought alot of new features to the series, but unfortunately I didn't really enjoy it as much as the previous games. I think the whole charm was lost with the introduction of a 3D graphics engine, but like you said skillya, there also seems to be a lack of content in the game compared to its prequels. Damn, you just made me install Heroes III again.. :) |
I know...I have this certain power to make people look back into the past...
I also like Necropolis, both in III and V, but I've never really played it as much as Castle (in III). In III, I also like the Fortress town, but I find the crappy thing about it being there being only one ranged unit. True, III had this charm to it, you know, compare playing Hangman in the corner of a scrap of paper and playing some complicated word game on the computer with space-age graphics. And with V, it became more realistic somehow, and even though you know that you're not going to see any Archdevils walking down Main Street anytime soon, it still lost its fairy-tale feel that III had... |

I always go with the Castle, nice setting with a mix of medieval and fantasy, unlike the other ones that are plain fantasy, more or less. Also, the units are some of my favorites there. I was never into Hydras, Imps or Ogres. |
Well, the Elvish thingy was fun to play as well. Umm... Rampart. Yes. Rampart.
|
I think the dragons in Rampart are cool, but I was never into that kind of thing...I mean the whole nature, tree-hugging theme.
And I never upgrade the Angels in the Castle. I don't know why, a whim of their appearance of some sort I guess...:fuzconf: |
I didn't like Castle much... Even though they have the strongest 7th level unit.
I dunno, I always liked the undead and stuff. *Goes off downloading Heroes 3* |
Actually I think that Dungeon had the strongest 7th level unit...Or the one with the most health leastways, apart from Titans Yeah, I actually used to absolutely hate Castle, cause my dad would always play with it every single time(just like now in Heroes V, he plays with the same ole hero and the same ole Necromancer town) and it seriously got on my nerves...you can say that my former aversion to Castle was caused by childhood trauma. But another thing I like about the castle is that there's a hero there that has Diplomacy at the start of the game. I like diplomacy. That's how I've grown up to the biggest armies I've ever had (22,000 and something Pegasi, perchance?). Diplomacy makes me happy |
Diplomacy not worth it with Necropolis, since non-undead units suffer a morale penalty.
|
Yeah, but then again you can be picky...
I'm so fond of Diplomacy in fact, that when I venture out of my town, I usually don't go looking for treasures or experience, I go out looking for an army (with Expert Diplomacy), assuming that everyone I come across will join me. I'm weird. |
And then you run into a bunch of Gold Dragons and get your ass kicked.
Happens to me eeevery time... |
Indeed, it happened to me just a few minutes ago XD.
|
Ooo oo hang on a sec. I've got a screenie of me owning 4,000 dragons....
http://i10.tinypic.com/48p1wy9.jpg Oh and just for kicks, two of the greatest armies I've ever achieved: http://i1.tinypic.com/2jeemj4.jpg and http://i3.tinypic.com/2h4xix4.jpg |
Sweet bejeesus, not bad, not bad at all. I have a hard time building up armies because I always end up being attacked and have a hard time taking the iniative. Not only that, but most scenarios feel way too short for me to be able to achieve such great numbers for an army.

That's why there's such a thing as the 'Easy' option :p
I play on Knight though, most of the time. |
