Best Oddworld games?

same as title.

Frankly, AO and SW are the best, theres no doubt about that.

Killy 12-25-2006 10:46 AM

You wouldn't think for a second that this has been done before?

dripik_12 12-25-2006 11:17 AM

AO,AE,MO and SW are the best!!!:p every OW game is the best!

Arxryl 12-25-2006 03:29 PM

Yeah.... I really liked AE but MO got me hooked.SW was good and AO started the whole thing off so... I like 'em all!

Jordan 12-26-2006 03:41 AM

I prefer AE over the A.L.I.V.E games, and MO over the A.L.I.V.E2 games, that's me.

Huh? AE was an A.L.I.V.E. game. I assume you mean you prefer it out of the A.L.I.V.E. games. ;) But MO was the only game that used the A.L.I.V.E. 2 engine. Stranger used the Stranger engine.

Wow, so much oblique script.

Zerox 12-26-2006 06:50 AM

The A.L.I.V.E system, to my knowledge, was getting enemies and creatures to act natural. In MO, which I know very little about, I presume this 'A.L.I.V.E 2' engine is a different version for the upped 3D graphics (from what I've seen, though, I prefer the old 2D games). It's also different as 3D models allow so much more room in the disc without having to make a whole new set of sprites. With models, a short line of code could create a whole action, such as Sligs smoking. So the A.L.I.V.E system is obviously different.

Never had Xbox, but other games I've played. The best reviews I've seen tend to be for the first 2 games.
...maybe I could try an Xbox emulator to play Munch's Oddysee...I got Super Mario 64 to play pretty much perfectly on my computer...

Mac Sirloin 12-26-2006 06:55 AM

Of course this has been done before.

I just think that AE wasn't up to par with A, It just didnt have this FEEL to it that AO did.

Hands DOwn, SW is my favorite, not just because og the shooter aspect, but that they changed the characters.
FINALLY

Oh, sorry, I meant that! :D Stranger didn't use A.L.I.V.E 2? That is very different from the old games, and EA didn't help... I hate them...

It wasn't so much that they needed to change characters. I love Abe and Munch and all other characters in OW, it's just it was so incredibly nice to see Oddworld in another perspective. Which I thought was interesting. Like next they need to do something similar or just do Sligstorm. Being industrial would be a fun game. But yeah, it was nice to see Oddworld in a new perspective.

I love every single one. They are all the best games possible.

Jordan 12-29-2006 04:34 AM

They wouldn't be able to do Sligstorm, it's in a similar engineto AE isn't it? And making a game like that wouldn't get Oddworld very far, but it would be very nice to see, and maybe they could make it in 3D? But Oddworld won't be making games for a long while, they're working on Citizen Siege anyway...

Slaveless 12-29-2006 07:25 AM

Actually, if they make a movie on AO and AE, they could make that pack for both of the games like they wanted to. And SligStorm would be included, like OWI wanted.

I like both AO and AE just the same. I have never played MO or SW, but maybe in the future. They were great in game play perpective, as well as challenges. I don't have a favorite. But I hope I can get my hands on the other two.

Sapphire Diamond 12-29-2006 08:33 AM

i agee^^they are all brill^^

Jordan 12-29-2006 01:02 PM

I occasionally open AO and AE up and play them, but I'm afraid I'll scratch em, I got AE 5 years ago, and it got scratched to f***, so I got a new copy, so I'm being very careful this time!

Oddie 12-30-2006 11:37 PM

I've only ever played MO and SW (though I want to play the other two) but I think SW was the best :)

skillya_glowi 12-31-2006 12:47 PM

I agree with whoever said that AO had this special feel to it that AE lacked. That's why I still like it better, and still play it more than AE (which may be surprising seeing as I've had AO for eight years and I only got AE in July).
I dunno. It's not just the kickstarting of the story that made AO special, and AE a bit less so since we've seen Abe before. The AO storyline just seems more real and difficult and horrifying and delighting at the same time than the AE storyline. It's something I really can't explain.

I think MO is brilliant as far as the storyline (hell, the intro movie was the first thing to make me laugh and cry in the same 6 minutes) and design is concerned, but, although I understand that they made their focus on gameplay more than anything else, I felt that they could have pulled up a bit with the graphics and the humour.

I have mixed feelings about SW though. Even though I have nothing bad to say about the storyline or gameplay, it seems much more fitting for it to be a completely separate game. Didn't Lorne say, "For us, it's not about muscle-bound characters with big guns. It's about little guys. The guys like you and me who are -something- in a cruel, uncaring world." Or something similar. The point is, while they did a great job on SW, it seemed very little like the previously created Oddworld universe. I suppose that the change of Production Designer was responsible........

There aren't many to choose from. and I think they are all great. Exoddus wasn't good for me. I prefer the first AO. It was awesome. If only I could get past the Paramonia/Scrabania area without using cheats. (I've never been able to do both. It's hard without a PSone memory card.)

Jordan 01-01-2007 09:29 AM

Abe's Oddysee has a certain nature beauty about it, I think Abe's Exoddus lacks it as there are a lot of industrial places in it, but in AO you see a lot of Paramonia and Scrabania and the Monsaic lines, I think these areas are beautiful... In AE I do like Necrum, it looks eerie and dark, I love it!
But I think MO shows too much industriality, I prefer the forest areas.

Slaveless 01-01-2007 12:10 PM

I think that the only thing I didn't like in AE was that there was a lot of backround music, even when nothing was really happening. I liked the whole silent, dark theme in AO, which made the game almost reflect on its true beauty, where as AE made the whole place like this whole clattery machine. I also disliked the fact that secrets were easily pinpointed by bottles.

Yet in Abe's Exoddus, you could be several kinds of characters, like Paramites and Scrabs, not just Sligs. Also, GameSpeak expanded here, which made the game more interesting that you could do more with Mudokons. In Abe's Oddysee, everyone was against you, which at the same time is a pro and a con.

So in all, I liked the themes were beautifully given life in AO and in AE. So I have no favorites. Just thought I might make that clear.

Jordan 01-01-2007 12:56 PM

Abe's Oddysee has lovely music, especially(sp?) in Scrabania, those drums are so cool, I'm glad there isn't a lot of music in the levels, the sound is what makes it fun, the farting, the laughing, and the slapping! :)

moxco 01-01-2007 01:41 PM

I would say Mo is the best , even though ive only played mo and sw
[i still loved strangers wrath though munchs odysee was the best]

is ao ae only on psone

Jordan 01-01-2007 01:44 PM

You've never played the first 2 oddworld games? :|
AO and AE are for the PSone and the PC, you can buy them cheap on Amazon and eBay, they are really worth buying, trust me.
The PC versions are a little harder to get, I don't know why, but they are.

Andrelvis 01-02-2007 06:04 AM

For those who want to play AO or AE without scratching their CDs and have the PC version, you can just copy the entire CD content to the game's folder and you won't need the CD to play it.

Oddys 01-02-2007 06:53 AM

In Gameplay SW
In Story AO and AE
MO looses in all ways

Just "my" meaning.
