How far are the places in SW from places in Abe's games?
Yeah, the title pretty much says it all. I was wondering about the chances of them meeting :p
|
I can't say how far apart they are in distance, but I can say that they are in different regions. Abe is in the Eastern Mudos region, where Stranger is in the Western parts of Mudos.
Now whether they're going to meet up some time is not up to me. Their jobs have them to be in seperate places. Stranger is the guardain of Grubbs now and Abe is the savior of Mudokons. Stranger will stay in the Mongo Valley, where Abe will be in factories of the Magog Cartel and fixing Mudokon villages. The Magog Cartel has no place in the Mongo, and Stranger can't be with Abe any time soon. However, Stranger might encounter Mudokons, since there is an Elum Spine near the Mongo. I might count on Munch meeting up with Stranger though, since the Mongo River is where Gabbits should repopulate. |
:
Maybe Sekto could return, and try to destroy Ma'Spa, Munch and Abe get there, and they have to team up with Stranger to fight off Sekto. |
Probably not. Abe made it seem like that they weren't going to meet up again soon, since he asked Munch whether he was going to be able to handle all of those baby Gabbits.

This is probably the best map you'll find. I found it on the web some
time ago. http://www.oddworld.com/alf/alfictio...assets/map.jpg Sorry, I didn't make it that big. Nate, posted a cropped down version of the pic with a red circle in it here: http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2691&stc=1 |
I know this map, however thanks, Spirrow. It doesnt say much about SW locations though. :S
I mean what im really interested in is how ca the two atmospheres be so, so different? They must be very far apart from eachother. :
|
Vykkers don't make any money in the Mongo Valley. Doc is just a doctor that lives there to make some moolah. There isn't any Labortories in the Mongo Valley, now are there? They wouldn't be very welcome there either, since Clakkerz rarily do anything with other species. So Vykkers aren't very successful in the Mongo Valley. Besides, Sekto wants to be the only one who gets income from the Clakkerz.
|
Im thoroughly hypothetical actually. I still haven't finished the game, so yeah.

I seem to think Strange might meet up with Abe and Munch in the future. Abe and Munch might have to go through the Mongo Valley to get to some Margog factories and mudokkon villages. |
Find the Mongo river, and you find Stranger. The map is your friend.

Yep so nobody knows where it is, or where SW was played
|
I see. Well. It is disappointing isnt it?
|
Not really.
|
Well to me it is. :p I like to see things logically. :) I hope OWI will update us soon.
|
Is it not logical that Stranger lived along the side of some part of the Mongo River?
|
That is logical, but where is the Mongo River in comparison to the journeys of Abe and Munch?
|
I thought I heard somewhere SW was set in Western Mudos...however, this may not be the case.
A thought that pops up is that inhabitants of a rivers edge (forget which it is) praised the Gabbits as they journeyed up the river to spawn. Would these river inhabitants be Grubbs? And was it the Mongo river that the Gabbits swam up to Ma Spa? Grubbs seem to have evolved here and fill the spot that would otherwise be taken by the more advanced Mudokons. So it seems unlikely they ever lived here. Based on the environment, being dusty and hot, would this area be closer to the equator? It's position on the planet also prevents Abe or Munch's moons being seen from this area of the planet. So it must be quite remote for this to be the case. |
Well, Stranger journeyed up the river, towards the source (though obviously never reaching it). We know that the mudokons celebrated the Gabbit migration the same way the Native Americans celebrated the salmon migration, so presumably mudokons live further down the river, nearer the Mongo Delta. Perhaps the Grubbs also celebrated them, but the fact is that gabbits were all but extinct during SW.
The dam obviously doesn't help with the gabbits' endevours to spawn, so clearly Sekto Industries did not get on with Glukkon enterprises, as the presence of the dam severely restricts the production of Gabbiar. Unless the eggs are extracted from captured gabbits, in which case Gabbiar eggs are not fertile, meaning Munch has to fertilise all the eggs, which spells doom for the ill-fated gabbits, who will die out after a few generations of rampant inbreeding. |

I think he meant celebrated as in a kind of, umm... celebrational thing. Not exactly worshiping, but still a kind of celebration. (not exactly sure as I am definitely not Bullet Magnet.)
And about them celebrating/worshipping the gabbits instead of any other species, I think that maybe the Muds are kind of like the native americans. They celebrate all of nature. And, although we have no evidence that they do in fact worship them we may not know until we see more of the mudokon life style. (especially that around the Mongo river area.) DOn't know if that made sense or helped answer the quesiton but... Amazing how a simple question may bring up such an interesting thread. :) |

The native race depicted in The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants is the Mudokon race, but the Mudokons have never been seen by the Mongo in any canonical material, and since the Grubbs are supposed to have, during their heyday, populated the Mongo and its tributaries from source to sea, that would leave little room for the Muds, unless they encroached on Grubb territory—but why would they not just in turn be victimised by settlers and Sekto’s security.
|
Ah, so I take it this map and everything is in The Oddworld Book of Art. Hmm, I want that package to arrive sooner! *Prays for package to come today*
|
:
Edit: Sorry Taytay, there isn't really a different map in the The Art of Oddworld book that is much different from the one above. |
In SW can you find abe or meet up whit him?
|
No... I think OWI tried to avoid the possibility of Stranger having a conflict with any of the old characters from previous games, such as Glukkons or Sligs.
That post should be in the Q&A thread. |
It would be annoying if they all met in SW, that game is based on Stranger, and the first 3 games featured Abe, it wouldn't make sense to keep including Abe, we wanna see new sides and creatures of Oddworld... But a new Abe game would be great!
|
Nice thread, does anyone know how to post threads? Because I don't and I want to.
