The OT thread closing...

Was the gayest thing since gay came to gay town and opened up a wholesale gay store. Forum games are a good way to keep people happy at a forum and coming back. Gee, the only threads that have breached 300 in over two years got closed, that'll do wonders for the activity level at this place.

Jordan 12-16-2006 12:25 PM

What was that all about? You talked a load of babble, what are you on about?

Yeah, what the hell is up with that? I mean, I can understand closing one or two, but all of them? Come on, guys. That's ridiculous.

Abe16 12-16-2006 02:51 PM

So, what about closing? Closing the forum game threads? WHat's wrong with forum games?

SeaRex 12-16-2006 08:13 PM

It was a group decision between several mods. Most of the "games" had turned into lame, post-boosting spam-fests between two members. For example, snuzi know has an average post count of 40 posts per day, thanks to these awful game threads, for the most part.

There is a discussion bouncing around in EL about making a "web game forum" that would not count toward a users post count. If such a sub-forum is implemented, I will make sure to reopen all of the closed threads, only moved into said forum.

mitsur 12-16-2006 08:17 PM

See, guys? There was a legimate reason.

You just had to wait to see it.

You guys did go kinda nuts, I mean, your post count jumped by almost 300 in a week...

And I will continue to have an average of 40 posts per day. Game threads aren't the only ones I post in, you know. I mean, I'm on OWF all day posting in different sections.

Also, I only went overboard on the game threads once, and that was yesterday. I wasn't thinking of continuing.

Arxryl 12-16-2006 09:59 PM

I think that having a thread where the game posts don't count is a very good idea. I admit the posting got a little rediculous, but the games themselves were fun.
I second the notion for having the threads being re-opened without having it count towards your actual score. (not that my vote actually counts for anything, but...:) )

snuzi 12-16-2006 10:11 PM

And I third the notion, if that's an expression. I think this'll prevent further problems.

Xavier 12-17-2006 01:29 AM

Most of the mods agreed something has to be done, and even our international asshole Hobo was thinking this was stupid way to boost post counts. :p

Anyway, we will try to make Alcar create a new forum for all that kind of crazy stuff and have a clean Off Topic section with intresting Topics :p

Hobo 12-17-2006 06:16 AM

I'm with Searex!

Jordan 12-17-2006 06:20 AM

Damn, I shouldn't have made one! I can't believe how many posts people are getting a day, it's getting pretty bad, I never noticed.
I agree with Sea Rex and Xavier, something has to be done!

Abe16 12-17-2006 11:57 AM

So I see what was going on...

I agree with SeaRex on this part. It was becoming a bit of a battle on the "Banned Game" thing.
EDIT: Agg, mess up!

Goresplatter 12-17-2006 01:04 PM

Reasons seem fair enough, but then again it conflicts with this forum's rule which I can't remember where I heard (sure it's true though)... It can go into a formula... forumula... tee hee.

Post count [Not =] Respect

Because if it does, I'ma' go post in every thread I have the slightest urge to post in, unlike now where I've accumulated something like 200 posts in a whole year.
In other words, you can make the games not add to post count if you like, but it shouldn't matter to anyone either way.

mitsur 12-17-2006 01:46 PM

Yeah, like Gore said, post count definately does not instantly make you more respected. If you try to artificially inflate it, the opposite actually happens.

I mean, look at me. I've been here longer than 90% of the people here, and my post count is really, really low for that long a period of time. I mean, my average number of posts is 0.59!

My post count may be little, but I think i've got respect. Of course, you never know. I could be like those clowns everyone keeps around because everyone likes to laugh at them but is actually a total loser in everyone's mind.

Jordan 12-17-2006 03:21 PM

These people's posts are going way up, what's happening to our peaceful little forum? I joined nearly a year ago, and some people joined last month and they are already like a 100 posts further than me! Close the game threads someone!

Arxryl 12-17-2006 05:00 PM

I believe someone did close them.
But if one were to re-open them, the post count should not apply.

snuzi 12-17-2006 08:08 PM

I agree completely, and I sincerely apologize that my abuse of the game threads led to this decision. If this seperate section for forum games is indeed created, one that doesn't add to the post count, I feel that further issues such as this will be avoided permanently.

Alcar 12-17-2006 10:40 PM

I have decided that all offending threads will be moved to Necrum Burial Grounds - as such, post counts will be affected, as they do not count in NBG.

I do not wish to create a new forum, especially when it is effectively for spam. As such, it should now be known that a maximum of two active 'game' threads can exist at any one time in Off-Topic Discussion. Furthermore, posting between two (or more) individuals in a skirmish situation where an individual posts one post after another member's post will result in corrective action. Spam is not tolerated.

Finally, I have re-opened the Picture Wars thread, as I think it holds the most value (and it existed well before the new generation of 'game' threads).

Alcar...

Hobo 12-18-2006 01:15 AM

I'm with Peter!

Nate 12-18-2006 01:46 AM

Yay to Alcar for being the wise and honest ruler that he is.

And for basically doing exactly what I wanted.

Bullet Magnet 12-18-2006 03:22 AM

On another forum of mine (Sporeum) there is a game forum, and it has a "two post" rule. That means that you must wait for at least two people to post after you before you can post again.

Jordan 12-18-2006 04:22 AM

That's a very good idea, Bullet! I think on the OWFs you should have a post limit each day, for example, you can only post 10 times a day.

Xavier 12-18-2006 05:14 AM

hmmm no, what if it's a busy day, like the launch of Citizen Siege trailer or something like that?

Jordan 12-18-2006 05:19 AM

Ahh... You've got a point there, Xav! About 50 pages would be taken up when Citizen Siege is released, it will be a busy day that will...

Bullet Magnet 12-18-2006 06:07 AM

I meant just on the games- you wait for two people to post after you before you post there again.

Statikk HDM 12-18-2006 10:25 AM

Now matter what happens, guys, I want us to all remember one very important thing...
I'm the man.

Alcar...

that sounds like a very good compromise, and an equally good idea.

Al the Vykker 12-19-2006 03:25 PM

I think already with the corrective action that has been taken its important as I've said in the past along with others, remember to post Quality over Quantity.

Nice idea on the post limit, but I think self moderation and a little bit of a kick like what happened with the moving of the "games" takes care of Spam fairly quickly. Cheers!

skillya_glowi 12-19-2006 10:09 PM

I agree that they shouldn't count towards post count, but what's the harm in just leaving them up there? The reason I so shamelessly indulged in them is that they were the only threads that were updated very quickly...so yeah, pretty much it...
