PS3
So has anyone spent their life savings on one yet?
|
|
Seeing as I toured some forums with titles, like: NOT WORTH IT or WASTE OF MONEY, I'd say no.
|
People are insane over PS3s even though Revolution is the only exlusive game out for it that is worth a damn.
Also, past experiences have led me to follow this maxim: Never buy first gen Sony consoles. The consoles get their prices slashed within a year and a half.PS1 came out at 500 bucks, could be gotten brand spanking new for less than half that less than 18 months later. I contented myself with playing the Playstations of suckers and saps who bought it at that silly price and when I finally got 500 bucks I got the PS, with most of the launch and first wave games that interested me at deep discount. Secondly, they always have disc or memory card read errors and overheat on the first launch. Why jostle with a violent mob with 600 dollars in your coat pocket when you can wait a year, see if its any good or not, and save yourself a few hundred dollars? |
I could give less than a shit about Sony's graphics. It should be about gameplay.
To answer the question, no and I don't intend to. |
If i had money, i still wouldn't buy one
|
Damn it, I was going to make this thread. Eh, too late.
I know this is going to make you PS3 haters sick. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6142576.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6132212.stm#media This last ones going to make you people gag. Look at those happy people and even the one that lay down in lines along walls to wait. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6154376.stm It also costs $800 dollars to manufacture a single 20GB PS3 and $840 to manufacture a single 60GB PS3, so you're really getting a $200/$240 knock-off on the price. EDIT: Ah, Nate, that was hilarious. I'm still buying a PS3 after some time, though. I think it's Xbox that should go jump off a cliff. Microsoft stole Sony's attention on the market. |
Who says that attention belonged to Sony. We live in a free market society where the better product for the better price should and usually does reign supreme. That's not to say that this always happens. Hopefully this time it will and Sony will learn to respect their consumers.

I have a friend that goes to small citys and buys all the hot new items and sells them on ebay. He got a hold of 3 PS3 and is selling them for around $1000.00 on the internet, and people are buying them like they need them to live. My thoughts are that the PS3 is not worth the time and money right now. The only game that looked nexgen to me on it right now is Resistance: Fall of Man all the other games are lame. It's much better to just sit out and let them work out any bugs anyway.
|
Heheh, I heard about that.
Apparently, says me Fur friend on 'nother forum, about half the people at his Stores bout PS3s' just to sell 'em. Its kinda sad, really. |
Aww hell no! Not those retards again! "LOL LETZ SPEND SOME1 ELSES MUNY ON A SOON-2-B SMASH CONSOLE BECUZ WE CANT BE BOVERED TO EARN OUR OWN CASH LOLOLOL!!" Plus, the guy in the vid throws the hammer like an 8-year old girl. Although, I must say the PS3 did deserve it.
Anyway, I'm getting a Wii. The PS3 is overpriced and not doesn't have have many intresting launch titles IMO. |
I can't be bothered to buy new consoles with the rush. Firstly: because no matter what, there is never enough to go around, secondly: because the prices are always ridiculous, especially when they're about to drop significantly in the next few months.
And thirdly: because the British releases are always inexplicably later than the releases everywhere else. At least I'll get time to see which consoles are likely to have futures. |
I feel sorry for the British people getting screwed out of nearly 150 American dollars on the deal and getting it late. Even when it does drop in price you'll be paying what Americans were getting at launch. Now if that isn't a screwing fit for the Royals I don't know what is!
/wonder if Prince William ever tried Shinshi Shinshi. |
Can someone tell me what is so important about owning one?
The prices on Ebay are over 1000 dollers now and someone was shot in Conneticut over a consel. |
Oh, yeah, I heard they were selling them on Ebay for a $1,000/$1,500.
I think it can be because of three reasons: #1. Ebay is a worldwide auction network meaning that even people in Europe who are dying to buy will pay those kind of prices. #2: Those sellers may think people are stupid enough to fall for it if they don't know the original price. That's lame. #3: Profit, profit, profit. The lamest by far excuse. Why everyone wants the console: to boast that they have it first and because that's the thing with Americans, they'll waste their money because they think they need to have it and everything else. And in a year it's sitting in a dark corner catching dust. |
You're missing the point. It's supply and demand. Lots of people want one (for the reasons you have stated) and Sony haven't supplied near enough consoles to sell. Thus enterprising individuals can make a mint out of stupid impatient consumers.
|
So supply and demand simply makes things just even past the point of when costumers are running around zombies from Dawn of the Dead? Running into poles and beating eachother? That's ridiculous. Sony knows the game they're playing and it isn't something that can be dismissed away with just supply and demand. It's cruel and unethical and they should be condemned for it. The best thing in my mind that can happen in my mind is Sony hits an economical tailspin and faces a stack of lawsuits.
Believe me, I fully support the idea of a laissez-faire esque economy, but when it goes to the point of people just mongering around then something needs to be done. |
I was talking about the $1000 sales on ebay.
I'm not sure what you're talking about. How can Sony be blamed for someone robbing someone else, doing a drive-by shooting or just being innately moronic? |

Also, this is related to the subject: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/images/061012.jpg |
VG Cats is awesome. You know, I'm pretty sure they could have made 5 times as many consoles and sold all of them. There would be less rioting, more sales, more people to buy the video games. That is the only way the PS3 profits, peope need to buy a shit ton of gear and games. The thing is, unlike Microsoft and soon Nintendo I don't think Sony is making a dime on a console sale, in fact I heard that they are heavily subsidizing the consoles.
All things being equal they could sell twice the consoles of any competitor in half the time but if they don't have good games and gear they are boned. Final Analysis: Sony is, in the short term, totally screwed because of supply problems and a poor launch library. And they have nobody to blame but themselves. |
All consoles are sold at a loss.
It's the extras + games + licensing + subscriptions they make up for it with |
That comic is awesome.
|
Hmm... I might buy one when the prices go down but all this nonsense is psycotic. I saw people camping outside the local walmart to buy one. it's sad really.
I'd probably buy the Wii anyways... |

One person at my local best buy sold first place for $1,000 |

Microsoft sells at less loss than Sony and Nintendo is selling the Wii at a profit. The PS3 needs a lot of good exclusives and I don't really see any major franchises like Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Tekken etc. at launch. Some of those won't be out even by next holiday season.
|
Your right Statickk, Sony isn't making profit because I'll say it again,
it costs $800-$840 just to make a single PS3. Sony can only hope to sell several million consoles to even get close to making up for what they lost. In other words it also means the manufacturing price would have to go down. |
Darn double posting forum bugs. Please delete.
|
I think i'm getting a Wii. The ps3 is over-priced and not worth it. A 360 is nice too.
