The 80s are coming back!

Its a pretty well known saying, but it seems like every decade is obsessed with the one that came 2 decades before it. Thats why a lot of people from the 70s and early 80s really pine for the '50s, why all that 70s stuff was big when I was growing up, and why the 80s are coming back. Hoop earrings, leggings and bullet belts, LEGGINGS AND BULLET BELTS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, camo clothing, boots, they're making a comeback.
The cutting edge of fashion nowadays seems to be looking like Clarissa or an extra in a Ratt video. You can even hear it in the music nowadays, that "emo" stuff is back in a huge way, bands are trying to emulate the hardcore sound and cash in on it, people are even bandying about terms like thrash and death metal again. Whats with this retro obsession every decade has?

Bullet Magnet 10-14-2006 07:13 AM

Just so long as shell suits and padded shoulders in suits don't come back.

Mutual Friend 10-14-2006 08:32 AM

Leggings are hot.

Nate 10-14-2006 08:41 AM

I just wonder what the hell we're going to do retro for the 90's because that decade felt like it was, fashion-wise, mostly retro of everything else. The only major trend I can think of from the '90s is Political Correctness.

Mutual Friend 10-14-2006 09:28 AM

The '90s were pretty baggy years, weren't they?

I can't really recall, I wasn't thinking about the '90s in the '90s.

What do you think that people for 20 years will copy from 00s if 00s are coping from 80s?
Just for the record, I like 60s, wich are >>the best<< years of 20th century. Music was great, people and clothes also.

Statikk HDM 10-14-2006 02:08 PM

The 90s stuff will be back in for 2010. Plus, will denim and flannel and ripped pants and t shirts with goofy slogans ever truly leave? I can't wait until its actually hip to wear jean shorts and Starter jackets again. Hell yeah!

Mutual Friend 10-14-2006 02:10 PM

Hip to wear jean shorts? Dream on...

Statikk HDM 10-14-2006 02:11 PM

Its my dream and I will make it as big as I want!

Nemo 10-14-2006 02:42 PM

I'm from the nineties, so I should be into the 70's...
Yay disco!

Leto 10-14-2006 02:42 PM

Oh come on, the 80s have been coming back in fashion for ****ing ages. In fashion, music and many things.

It's not like this is new.

Check that synth chorus in 'Promicuous' by 'Nelly Fartarded'.

Statikk HDM 10-14-2006 02:49 PM

I guess I noticed when reading an article in a teen magazine supplied by the colleges and it was talking about fashion trends. "Preppy" stuff, denim miniskirts, chains and bullet belts and patched clothing, skull and crossbones motifs, 70s and 80s band shirts. I was like "Holy shit! This is all hijacked from the 80s!"
I'm not a fashionable man so this caught me by surprise.

Patrick Vykkers 10-14-2006 03:31 PM

If you ask me, fashion is the biggest waste of time, money, and atoms since abstract art. Unless it involves long black cloaks or the Borg. Or even better, both.

Mutual Friend 10-14-2006 03:47 PM

You Star Trek people make me physically sick. And you cloak people, too.

Nate 10-14-2006 06:36 PM

Nah, cloak people are cool. There used to be this short, fat bloke at my uni who would walk around every day wearing a royal-blue cape with a black pi printed on the back. Very entertaining, in a sniggering behind your hand sort of way.

ziggy 10-14-2006 07:00 PM

I like a lot of retro stuff! Music and clothes

I actually still like Nirvana: i love Mr. Moustache. A lot of people around where I live don't like grunge anymore but they will in 14 years lol

I don't know why, but when you said "cloak people", my mind said "Sounds like something out of a 50's B-movie. Attack of the Cloak People!"

Besides, I think they're called Goths or D&Ders these days.

Facsimile 10-15-2006 02:51 AM

80's pop > all other pop.

I await it's return with open arms.

Bullet Magnet 10-15-2006 03:07 AM

Unfortunately that includes the Birdy Song.

And all those other hideous novelty songs that were so popular for some reason. "Grandma we love you" and the song to the Eastenders theme tune, among other soul killing renditions.

Statikk HDM 10-15-2006 07:08 AM

Whats with all the Dungeons and Dragons stigma? They dress like any other people, its just a once a week hobby. At least it ain't a bunch of angsty shit like White Wolf stuff.

Arxryl 10-15-2006 07:31 AM

The 80's... Well, I can't remember much of it because I wasn't born yet.
But when the 90's comes back, I just hope the Barbie song doesn't. I'm sure I don't have to remind any of you how annoying it is...

Kamille 10-15-2006 04:26 PM

I like 80's music

I think I heard somewhere that a new version of the Thundercats was going to air sometime soon. If that coutns as 80's coming back.

Arxryl 10-22-2006 06:43 PM

Thunder cats! Thunder cats! Thunder Cats! Ho!............................
Sorry... reliving the moment.

Al the Vykker 10-24-2006 01:23 PM

Just further supports the idea of reoccurence in style, themes, life, music, politics, etc. For this reason I hope soon enough we'll be back to a more progressive and less conservative country (in the U.S. that is).
