Huge shortcut in Abe's Oddysee. (Rupture Farms, Zulag 3)
You know when you come to the three doors? Well, the area in the top-left has a HUGE shortcut. You only need to visit three screens to complete the entire level, although you won't save any mudokons this way.
On the starting screen, jump over the lift gap. Now, from the other side, run towards it, and jump when Abe is 3 steps away. If timed right, he won't grab on, but will instead fall to the platform where the lever is(the one to complete this area). Now, how to get back up? Jump over to where the bird portal is, walk to the edge of the gap, and regular jump. You'll hang off the side, drop down. Here's the tricky part. Pull the level, then quickly walk to the edge and jump again. If done right, you'll hang before the elevator comes down. Now when the slig is facing away, pull up, and ride the elevator back up. You've just saved god knows how long on this level. Has anyone else found this? (First time I played this level, I couldn't find any other solution. O_O) Edit: Just been playing and, if you have a spare grenade and are fairly good at timing the throws, there's an even simpler solution. Go to the screen on the right, hoist up to the ledge, and blow up the chant surpressor on the next screen. Posess the slig, pull the lever, kill the slig on the middle screen, and run off the edge of the gap on the first screen. Pull the lever. Kill the slig. Return to the door as Abe. This one is four screens, not three, but it is a lot easier to do. |
I used all of those tricks months ago when I played AO. Matter of fact
that is basically the only way to beat that level and many people already know about it. I'll refer you to a similiar page later where people already posted their tips and tricks regarding those situations. P.S. You can also cling to the ledges and drop to the screens below on the first part you explained. |
I can rescue all the Mudokon's in that. Even without using the Shrykull. Just use grenades :P
|
It definately isn't the only way to beat that level, it's just a lot easier.

:
Yes, I use it all the time. The only hard part is timing it perfect so that you get on the lift, just as the Slig is walking off. EDIT: Oh, and I think that this should be in the Oddworld Help section. |
It absolutely should be in the Oddworld Help section.
Eh, when I pull the lever to make the platform with the slig come down, I just leap for chasm and quickly haul myself up on the opposite side and run into the next screen. Just have to get rid of the sligs there with grenades first. |
*moves*

Yeah but when tried that and came back down on to the last screen
later the slig reappeared and the platform and it shot me dead. It could have been a bug but I wouldn't advise trying anything before you kill that slig on the platform. |
If you're going for 100% it's easier to do the level the full way anyway.
|
What's the point of skipping a part of AO? Doesn't it defeat the purpose of playing in the first place, cutting down your play-time and giving you less to enjoy?
|
Trust me, Zangg, the way I do it myself get all the sligs killed, the mudokons rescued and and the chant surpressors destroyed.
Edit: :
|
Eh, some parts are more fun than others. I have no qualms about skipping the boring bits and/or the ridiculously tough secrets.
|
Well, I pretty much beat the whole game with at least 46 (I think) or so
mudokon resqued. I just couln't get past the boardroom yet so I gave up so far and started with AE instead. But I'll have to check the game status to be sure. |
Not to burst your bubble, but I've used that approximately 60 billion times...Saves a lot of time, doesn't it?
|
I hadn't figured that one, but the level is so easy that I didn't need to. I fell down the hole, but couldn't figure out how to avoid getting killed. That level is so funny with the bonus...so are a lot.
