Cha-Cha-Cha
Is it possible for this place to have a live chat room type thing? Cos some other forums do... just wondering cos I'm bored right now and would like to piss around on here without fear of allegations of spam or sexual harassment.
I'm sure it's a money thing? Or a system thing? Or... a POLICY thing?!?! |
Yeah, there was the OddChat link at the very top of the forum pages.
Unfortunately, it isn't active and probably won't be for a long time. But I'm sure there's plenty of other unnofficial forums for Oddworld with some type of chatting program where people can yack all night long. Good luck finding one, because I certainly don't know where to look first. |
There used to be one and it was filled with members every night.
But since the invention of MSN no one used it and it just kinda died. - Rexy |
But isn't it easier to just start talking to people on chat than asking for their MSN address?
|
True, but do you really want to talk to Peter anyway?
|
Hasn't MSN been out longer than the OWF has been, or are are you saying before it became popular as a chatting area.

Peter really wouldn't. You should see some of the filth that comes out his mouth sometimes.
I think MSN only became mainstream [where every man and his rodent has an account] a few years ago and I think Oddchat was around before MSN was because [I think] MSN came from the idea of a chatroom. But I dunno. Don't quote me. - Rexy |
MSN almost certainly existed before OddChat did. However, as the people who frequented OddChat became closer friends, they most likely added each other to IM clients, which are far handier than some applet embedded on a webpage.
At this point in time, I say just add whomever you wouldn't mind speaking to. /me goes to remove IM details from his profile. |
And you did as well!
Anyway, no, I don't follow this logic. I don't want people on MSN... I just wanted the option of some more interactive (and liberal?) form of discussion for the times I felt like it. Actually, your logic is fine, mine ain't. If I'm not interested in having people on MSN, why am I interested in the idea of a chat room? I'll have a word with myself. EDIT: Oh, and thank you for the replies, people. Though I'm still confused about why it no longer exists. :) |
It no longer exists because it stopped working and no-one could see the point in fixing it. Simple as that.

Oh, and the other stuff is very probably correct, too. |
Ahh, Oddchat.
*gets out a walking stick, grows a long white beard and haunches over* Back in the "good old days", Oddchat was the stage of many group discussions and events - Even the people from OWI stopped by one time to answer some questions about MO from the Oddworld community. :) Good times were had by all. :P But seriously, surely it can't be that hard to fix? Even with MSN it still would be nice to chat to people who you don't have on your list - Directly chatting to members is different from simply replying to posts on a forum. It's a good way of getting to know your fellow forumers. :P But wait, I'm not saying anything more then what people have said here already, so I'ma gonna shut up now. :) |
