Who here is a good swimmer?

I've been curious lately if anyone here is a good swimmer :p. I go to a swim team (have been for years now) and i'm good at breaststroke, and backstroke, okay at freestyle, and SUCK at butterfly (I can NEVER do it good XD).

So who here is a swimmer, what's you're favorite stroke, etc. :D

I'm very good with swimming, especially underwater. No sissy goggles for me!

I know several different strokes, but I don't do any type of stroke except for the doggy-paddle.....

I used to be on the swim team in grammar school, and for competetive swimming I'm MAD ANGRY slow, but I consider myself pretty adept at being in the water. i lik da brest sstrok lol

I used to be really good, although I didn't learn many swimming techniques, only front crawl, back stroke and breast stroke. I forgot how to do all these when I stopped swimming for 4 years, though. . .

Still, been swimming twice recently - Managed to remember things again. I tread water really well without becomming exhausted by making as few movements as possible while staying afloat, but I swim very slowly and tire quickley. :P

Lol, being unfit FTL. And I can't dive too well - Still trying to master how to do that. I learned a little by watching Claudi (Alector) last time I went swimming with her, but need to practice I think. Hmm.

I can go like 30 feet away from shore before I start flapping and gasping.

Eh, I'm in lousy shape but I'm still a pretty good swimmer. Took lessons after my cousin Brice saved me from drowning at the deep end of a pool.

I hate water, I get the fear. I don't even like drinking it, makes me vomit.

Plus I'm pretty unhealthy, dodgy ticker if you ask me, and you probably would.

Kamille 09-03-2006 09:29 PM

I can't swim.

Freestyle baby.

Hobo 09-04-2006 01:54 AM

I used to be ok. Haven't swam in ages.

I'm a good swimmer. Got my SCUBA liscense, got the badges from chidhood. My favourite official stroke is the Breast Stroke (was that a snigger at the back?) because it is a nice leisurely pace. However I usually pull my goggles down, dive underwater and swim with my arms at my side in a sort of full-body undulation, like a snake or a whale.

I have been swimming three times in the last four years, and one of those times was in the River Kwai. But I can survive in the water and get from A to B and keep myself from going under.

I love swimming, but honestly, the only place where I can swim completely calmly is my bathtub, since, whenever I swim in the pool, I always think of the hundreds of people that swam there and what they've left behind, and I just get totally grossed out. The ocean, it's even worse. I mean, how many people have been to the beach and never seen anyone spit in the water? And people urinate in the ocean. Seriously.

Facsimile 09-04-2006 08:23 PM

I haven't swum in probably 6 years, I absolutely hate it.
I can swim enough to save myself, that is all I need to know. I sure as hell won't be doing it for 'fun' anytime soon.

Stupid water and its poor attempt to be anti-gravity.

Alector 09-05-2006 01:34 AM

I really love swimming and diving. It's nice to explore water plants and sharp abysses in our lake. Requirement is that you can dive very deep and keep your breathe a little bit longer. I can't tell I'm a good swimmer. I just like swimming. Mehehe. :p

AquaticAmbi 09-05-2006 06:42 PM

I'm really out of shape, but I love the water, hence my username. I'm a weak swimmer but I'm an okay scuba diver and snorkeler. Fins make a remarkable difference of course.

At one point, I was much more in shape. When I was certified for scuba I had to swim the length of a football field and tread water for 15-20 minutes. Now I can barely swim 4 lengths of my college's pool without getting exhausted.

I've been on a swimming team for a while and even won a small throphy in one of the tournaments ^_^. But I got sick of it so I quit. And yes, butterfly sucks major ass XD.

I get exhausted doing just a single half-length, but I managed to do pretty well in the Kwai. Either they’re putting gelatin in the pools here, or my arms are as weak as they look.

Legs. Now they’re awesome. Put me in a cross-country tournament any day. :)

Rex Tirano 09-06-2006 03:08 PM

I only like swimming under the water. Forget breathing and all that living crap, underwater swimming anyday.

But I'm not a strong swimer and I hate swimming around alot of people.

I think i'm in the same boat as you.

Except it's a swimming thread.

Word.

I'm just as slow underwater as I am above it though. That's why scuba diving is so nice... It's a nice slow way to enjoy being underwater.. Plus, you don't have to worry about that whole surfacing for air nonsense.
